Chapter 48: Stranded on the Island

They now divested themselves of all the golden finery and laid it in a heap.

'Have you anything on your boat that we could use to carry all this? A sack, a box or anything?' asked Manolis.

'There are a couple of crates in the galley,' said Petros, 'they have bottles of beer in them, I think.'

'Come, we'll empty them, bring the crates up here; put the stuff in to carry back.'

This they did and slowly, carefully, transferred the golden hoard to the boat. They then sailed back around to the landing stage that led to the village. There was Manolis' own little boat, bobbing about on the waves, tucked away from sight on the other side of the jetty.
