S1: E3 "Holy Shit!"

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. Matthias looked at the clock above the classroom door. Why can't time move quickly when you want it to? he wondered. It had been at least a week since Matthias had upset Annie. And she's not answering my texts, either. Matthias sighed as he realized that even though he wanted it to, the time was NOT going to move any quicker.

Ring! Ring! Matthias sighed in relief. Finally. Now he could figure out a way to make it up to Annie. I was such an IDIOT, Matthias thought. How did I not know that her dad died? Maybe because he was too worried being a fucking asshole to pay attention.

As Matthias walked out into the hall, a chill rolled down his spine. He stood there for a moment, waiting. Something doesn't feel right. Matthias looked down the right side of the hall, then the left.

He turned left.

Matthias walked, and walked, and walked until he was in front of the school on the outside. He scanned the area and squinted as he saw a...greenhouse?

"What the hell?" Matthias didn't remember there being a greenhouse. Matthias stopped a fellow student as they walked by him. "Hey, was that greenhouse always there?" he questioned. The student looked over to where Matthias was pointing. The student shrugged as he said, "I dunno. All I know is some guy asked the headmaster for it to be built." Matthias was puzzled.

"Why?"

The student shrugged once again. "Like I said, I don't know. But it DOES seem kinda shady though..." he trailed off. "What do you mean by that?" Matthias asked. The student looked around him, like he was checking to make sure no one was listening. What the student said next REALLY confused Matthias. "None of the teachers ever USE it."

Matthias took a deep breath in as he looked over at the greenhouse. Something doesn't add up. The student gave Matthias a glance. "Why do you ask? Are you thinking about investigating it?" he questioned. Matthias nodded. "Yeah."

"Take me with you." Matthias looked at the student and raised an eyebrow.

"Why would I do that?"

"Because I've wanted to check it out too. There's something strange going on in this town and I didn't wanna go alone."

Matthias paused. "What 'strange things' are going on?" The student looked Matthias dead in the eyes as he said, "You haven't heard? People have gone missing."

"Really?"

"Yeah, really. And it all started with that." he pointed to the greenhouse. Matthias started to think. "Well, come to think of it, one of my friends said there was a car accident a couple weeks ago. It was completely out of the blue." The student nodded thoughtfully. "Yeah, I heard about that. Strange thing was that there was no other car."

"There wasn't? That's...bizarre." Matthias stated. The student nodded again. "Sure is. And the crazy part? The damage was WAY too critical to have been JUST him involved. There HAD to have been someone else involved." Matthias racked his brain to try and find a simple explanation. But there wasn't one.

The student sighed as he said, "Well, I gotta get home. What's your name anyways?"

"Matthias."

The student's eyes grew wide. "YOU'RE Matthias? Like, the kid who's dad beats the shit out of him?" Matthias sighed. Of course somebody knew.

"Yep, that's me. How the fuck did you find that out anyway?"

"My friend Adrianna told me."

Matthias froze. Annie? She TOLD this guy about Matthias? I wonder what else she told him, Matthias thought. The student turned around and walked off, leaving Matthias puzzled.

As Matthias was about to leave the school grounds, a shadow fell over him, causing him to look up. That's when he saw it. It looked like an...angel.

Matthias tried to shrug it off, but said angel was watching him, little to Matthias' notice.

....

Annie sighed as she thought about the argument between her and Matthias.

Well at least you HAVE a dad to hate!

Why did she snap like that? How was Matthias supposed to know? They had only recently became friends. She sighed once again. Well, looks like I screwed that one up. she thought to herself.

As Annie was questioning her actions, her friend Miranda came up behind her.

"Boo!" she said. Annie rolled her eyes. "You KNOW that you can't scare me, so why do you try?" Miranda laughed. "Because it's fun!" she said happily. Miranda bumped Annie. "Come on, lighten up! There's no reason not to be happy!" Annie scoffed. Yeah right. At least MIRANDA didn't piss off one of the only guys who would talk to her.

"Seriously, what's the matter?" Miranda questioned, a worried look in her eyes. Annie sighed, "I may or may not have got into an argument with Matthias." Then she groaned.

"Why? Why did I have to go off on him like that? How was HE supposed to know that my dad died?" Miranda looked at Annie. "Is that what you were arguing about? Daddy issues?" Annie nodded.

Miranda snorted. "Well, if it was a competition on whose issues are bigger, then it looks like you win." she joked. Annie glared at Miranda. "Hey! That is NOT funny!" she bumped into her friend. Miranda giggled. "Come on, you know I'm joking!" Annie didn't care. It wasn't a laughing matter.

Miranda sighed. "Well, doesn't matter. FUCK Matthias. You don't need him." Annie laughed. "I never said that I DID. I just feel bad for going off on him. Besides," she added. "It's not like I LIKE him or anything. We're just friends."

"Yeah I can tell. Cause if you DID like him, you wouldn't be trying to hook him up with that Jericho chick." Miranda agreed. Annie thought about it and sighed, "Yeah, I guess you're right."

....

It was dark. Quiet. The only sound was the slight breeze blowing through the grass. Matthias and the kid who he was talking to earlier that day were crouched in the grass next to the greenhouse, waiting. Nothing was happening. Not a single thing. Matthias wondered if maybe they were wasting their time.

A couple minutes passed by. Half an hour. An hour. Finally annoyed, Matthias got up and said, "Well, doesn't look like anything's happening." The kid got up and sighed. Matthias gave him a sympathetic look. "Maybe next time." he told him.

As they both turned around and started to walk away, Matthias felt another chill roll down his spine.

"Uh, Matthias?" the kid whispered. Matthias turned around. What he saw was unbelievable. On the outside, the greenhouse was dark. But from where the other kid was standing, holding open the door, Matthias could see light peeking through.

"That's so weir-" the kid started but got cut off when suddenly he was violently jerked through the door into the greenhouse. Matthias heart skipped a beat. He ran over to the greenhouse as fast as he could. "Hold on! I'm coming!" he yelled. All that the other kid could let out was a scream. "HELP! MATTHIAS HELP!"

Matthias reached the door, only to hear a loud CRACK. He closed his eyes as he realized he was too late. Then he looked up.

The inside of the greenhouse looked normal. There were tables for students to sit, with plants on each of them. Then Matthias noticed something. While on the outside, the greenhouse was about ten to twelve feet in length, there was even more in the back of the room.

In the back of the room, there were these flaps, like the ones you walk through before entering a walk-in refrigerator. Matthias froze in shock and horror when inside the other room, behind the flaps, it looked like there was blood on the other side of it.

He walked towards it slowly, making sure not to disturb anything that may be in there. As he approached the flaps, Matthias took a deep, shaky breath, and walked in.

"WHAT THE FUCK?!" he almost gagged and threw up at the sight of the room. There were skulls and bones from what looked like human corpses. Some of them still had meat on them. There was a half-eaten heart here, a liver there. There was blood all OVER the walls. Which, were also made of glass.

Matthias couldn't believe this. How could someone DO this? Who the FUCK could've done this? Just then, Matthias' heart dropped. Because when he looked down, he saw the kid who had been taken in. The same kid who was so eager to check out this place. His heart had also fallen victim to the sick fuck who did this. It was lying right next to his head.

The only question was, how did they do it so quickly? And how come no one's ever tried to investigate this place? Matthias couldn't bear to look at the kid's face. The last look he had was hopelessness and fear. His chest was torn open, the insides exposed. His throat had also been sliced.

It looks like it's still bleeding, too. Matthias realized in horror. The kid's neck was gushing blood, forming a puddle underneath him. How did this go so wrong? he wondered.

Matthias looked around the room. He couldn't believe it. As he walked around and stepped over the corpses with severed heads, bisected bodies and, eww! that one still had it's eyeballs in it's head!

"This is fucking disgusting!" he said out loud, gagging. Matthias stopped when he thought he saw something on the wall. What is that? He walked over to right side of the room, trudging through the blood and guts on the floor. He froze as he realized that what he saw was a pentagram.

On that note, Matthias turned around to the front, and got his ass outta there.

....

Annie yawned as her alarm clock went off. "Shut up!" she growled. Getting up, Annie sighed as she got dressed and ready for school.

As she was waiting for the bus, Annie noticed that her friend Adrian was missing. That's weird, she thought, puzzled. He never missed a day at school. Maybe he's sick then.

She shrugged it off as she got on the bus. Maybe he took a car there. After all, they were seventeen now. Annie walked onto the bus and sat in the front seat directly behind the bus driver. The next stop was Miranda's, so Annie moved her bookbag into her lap. The bus pulled to a halt, opened the door, and in came Miranda.

Miranda searched the bus for her. Annie waved her arm to get her friend's attention. Spotting her, Miranda walked over and sat down next to Annie.

She sighed and looked at Annie. "Look, I'm sorry for being a bitch yesterday. It wasn't ok for me to joke about something like that. That wasn't cool." she apologized. Annie smiled and said, "No, you were right. It was like I was trying to compete with him. But that wasn't fair to him. He barely even KNOWS me."

Miranda had a look of surprise on her face. "Wow, I was RIGHT?" she laughed. Annie laughed with her, glad that no matter what, they could always make up after they fought.

When they arrived at the school, Annie sprinted up the stairs, planning to look for Matthias. She had no such luck. She searched and searched, but for some odd reason, Annie couldn't find him.

"What the hell is that kid DOING?"

Annie turned around, heading to the source of the voice. She realized that there were a group of students forming around a window. When Annie finally got to the damn window, she immediately was puzzled. In the lawn, a couple feet away from the greenhouse that no one used, was a student who was...sleeping?

That doesn't seem right, Annie thought. She walked out to the front of the school, turning left. As she got closer, she recognized the student lying on the ground.

Matthias?

....

Matthias opened his eyes, blinded by the sunlight. Where am I? he asked himself. As he opened his eyes more, Matthias saw the side of a building. Then he realized what building it was. It was the greenhouse.

Matthias must've fallen asleep outside of it. Except for the fact that it looked like he was five feet away from it. He rolled around until he was laying on his back. Goddamn sun! he thought to himself angrily. Even though the sun was in his eyes, Matthias immediately recognized the face that looked down on him about ten seconds later. And the voice that followed saying, "Matthias? What the hell are you doing?"

It was Annie. Damn it, he thought. What was he going to do? He couldn't LIE to her.

His time ran out when she leaned down to where her face was about an inch away from his. "What are you doing, silly?" she started to giggle, but then she looked at Matthias and had a look of horror on her face.

"What?"

"W-why do you have blood on you?" Matthias' heart skipped a beat. Shit! He quickly got onto his feet, brushing himself off. "Umm, no reason." he tried to play it off as a prank, but she didn't buy it.

"You REALLY expect me to believe that YOU would try to play a prank?" she scoffed, crossing her arms. Matthias scratched his head and nervously replied, "Haha, I guess not." Annie was glaring at him now. "Where's Adrian?"

Matthias was confused. "WHO?" he asked.

"Adrian. You know, the kid who you were talking to after school yesterday." Matthias froze. She KNEW about that? How? Then Matthias remembered something. That kid had mentioned an 'Adrianna' but Matthias was so used to calling her Annie, he didn't realize it was the same person.

"Uh..." he stuttered. "Well, um..." he tried to find an excuse to tell her that her friend was somewhere. Cause how could he tell her that her best friend was basically disemboweled? Or the fact that Matthias was there, but couldn't save him? He couldn't.

Lucky for him, he didn't have to. Because just then, involuntarily, Matthias broke down. "Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my FUCKING god!" Annie backed up a little, startled at Matthias' strange behavior.

He buried his face into his hands, traumatized. Annie perched on the ground and put her hand on Matthias' shoulder to comfort him. "What's the matter?" she asked soothingly. Matthias looked at her. How was he going to tell her? Matthias knew for a fact that if she knew, she'd be as petrified as he was.

Matthias looked back at the greenhouse, thinking about what happened. Greenhouse my ass, he thought. More like a fucking slaughter house. Matthias shivered as he remembered the bones and dead bodies that he had to trudge through to haul ass out of the building.

Annie must've picked up on it, because she started walking towards the greenhouse. Matthias' blood froze.

"STOP!" he screamed. Annie paused, looking back at Matthias. "Why?" she asked. Matthias tried to come up with an excuse for her not walking into the greenhouse. Ignoring his behavior, Annie continued walking toward the greenhouse. Matthias turned around. He couldn't bear the thought of her face of fear and shock. Matthias closed his eyes as he heard Annie scream. The gut-wrenching, fearful, 'what the fuck?' scream.

Then came the attention. Students and teachers and neighbors of the school started walking towards the source of the scream. Then they started to gasp in shock. Some students ran out of the greenhouse, so sickened by the sight that some of them started to vomit.

A couple minutes later, the cops pulled up. They cleared out the area as they investigated the crime scene. But Matthias didn't care. He was in too much denial to care or pay attention to what was going on around him. Matthias was snapped back to reality when Annie broke his train of thought by saying, "Hey, silly. It's time to go." Matthias nodded his head. "Yeah. Yeah, it is."

As he shakily got up, a cop came over to Matthias and asked, "Hey kid, are you the one who found this?" Matthias nodded. The cop looked Matthias up and down. "Was that a friend of yours?" Matthias nodded once again. "You could say that."

Annie lightly squeezed Matthias' arm and gently said, "C'mon, let's go." And so they walked away from the scene. Matthias looked over at Annie. "Why are you being so nice?" he questioned. "Because you're my friend. I'm always gonna be there for you." she replied.

"That's not what I meant," Matthias muttered. "That was your friend, right? Adrian?" Annie nodded. "So then why? Why are you not pissed at me?" he asked her. "Because it wasn't your fault," she whispered. Matthias scoffed. "Yeah right. I wasn't fast enough. I couldn't save him." he stated.

"It doesn't make it your fault, though," Annie pointed out. "It'd be different if YOU had been the one to kill him. But you weren't, and you didn't. It was HIS choice to get involved." Matthias nodded. She had a point. Matthias didn't FORCE him to go with him. Adrian had decided to go on his own.

If only he knew that his curiosity would be his downfall.

"Hey, I'm gonna go get my stuff. Stay right here." Annie told Matthias. "Ok."

As Annie walked away, Matthias saw a shadow. Not just any shadow. It had wings. He looked up, and when he saw something he couldn't believe, he exclaimed, "Holy shit! Was that an angel?"

....

The front door creaked as Annie opened it, Matthias right behind her. Instead of him going to his house, Annie had invited Matthias over to her house, knowing with the situation he probably didn't want to deal with his dad's bullshit right now.

Matthias was looking around, fascinated. "WOW. You have a really nice house." he praised. Annie blushed. "Well, thank you. But it's really not much." Matthias snorted. Annie didn't question it. At least he agreed to come over.

They approached the bedroom door and went inside. Annie dropped her bookbag on the floor and turned around to look at Matthias. "So," she started. "How long are you planning to stay?"

Matthias had a thoughtful look on his face. "Well I was GOING to stay here all day. Cause I REALLY don't wanna go to my house." he said, with an almost pleading tone to his voice. Annie looked at him sympathetically. She wouldn't want to go back home either.

They both sat down on Annie's bed. She sighed. "What do you wanna do?" Matthias asked. Annie smiled as she said, "I've got a couple ideas."

....

🎵You're way too hot to be acting like that, acting like that, acting like that. You're way too hot to be acting like that, acting like that, acting like that. I don't wanna talk right now-🎵

Annie sighed as she and Matthias layed on the floor of her bedroom. There were pillow feathers and glitter all over the ground. They were laying to where Matthias' head was upside down when they looked at each other. They laughed as their song played in the background.

🎵-I know that you'll regret me in the morning, when you are gone again...🎵

Matthias yawned and looked at the time. "Damn, it's almost midnight." Annie smiled. "Well, it was worth skipping school." she pointed out. Matthias laughed. "Yeah, it was. But I'm pretty sure EVERYBODY skipped school today. Today was a shitty day." he sighed.

Annie sat up on her arm, still in a resting position. "Can't say I blame em, either." she nodded in agreement. Matthias was right about that. It WAS a shit day. And to be honest, she really couldn't blame them.

Matthias yawned again. "Well, I guess I gotta go." he groaned. Annie watched Matthias pick himself up, grab his bag, and towards the door. Then an idea sparked in Annie's mind.

She quickly got up and ran over to stop him from walking out. "Wait!" she said. Matthias looked at her. Annie took a sharp breath when their eyes locked. Matthias was the type of guy that made Annie's butterflies come to life. His beautiful brown eyes, almost tempting her to bite her lip. His hair, what she'd give to run her fingers through it...

Annie shook her head, regaining focus. "Stay the night." she declared. Matthias looked taken aback. "What?" he said, puzzled. Annie took a breath. "You should stay the night." she repeated.

"Why?"

"Cause you hate going to your own house. Maybe if you stayed here, you'd be happier when you wake up." she replied. Matthias had a thoughtful look on his face. "Yeah, I suppose it WOULD be better than going to my house." he pointed out, almost to himself.

A silence started to form. Then, Matthias ended the silence by saying, "Alright. I'll stay" That made Annie content. Smiling to herself, Annie walked over to her bed to get changed, whenever Matthias asked, "Uh, should I turn around?"

Blushing, Annie nodded. I didn't even think about the fact that there's a boy in here with me. When she was finished getting changed, Annie invited Matthias to sit on her bed with her. He walked over and sat down, sighing as he did so.

"So...where am I gonna sleep?"

Annie froze. Damn it, she cursed herself. I can't have him sleep on the floor, that wouldn't be right. Then it hit her. Slowly turning her head to look at Matthias, fidgeting her fingers, Annie suggested, "You could sleep with me..."

Matthias looked alarmed and surprised at the same time. "Are you comfortable with that?" he asked. Annie nodded. "Yeah. I'm fine with it." Matthias shrugged. "Ok, if you say so."

He got down, put his bag against the wall, and returned to the bed. Matthias yawned and stretched his arms before sitting down again. "Man. I'm beat." he said, flopping backwards. Annie yawned in compliance. "Yeah, me too."

As Annie crawled into bed, Matthias turned off the lights, sending Annie's heart spiraling. He's just a friend, she told herself. Nothing more.

When Matthias got under the cover and said "Good night", Annie felt his arms creep around her waist, rolling her onto her back. She gulped nervously.

"W-what are you doing?" she asked, whispering. "I thought you were ok with this." Matthias mumbled. Annie opened her mouth then closed it, having nothing to say. She HAD said that she was ok with it. Annie silently giggled to herself, because not two seconds later, Matthias had fallen asleep, his breath warm on the side of her neck.

Rolling over to where she could see his face, Annie couldn't help but break into a smile. Something about Matthias just intrigued her. It felt as if he were...unique. But not in a bad way.

There was an aura about him that Annie just couldn't figure out. Then, carefully as not to wake him up, Annie ran her fingers through his hair. And that's when she realized. After kissing him on the head, still running her fingers through his hair, that's when Annie knew. She had fallen in love with Matthias.

....

Matthias sighed as he reached the front step of his house. It had been about a week since Matthias had spent the night with Annie. It was a lot of fun, he thought to himself with a smile. Looking into the window, Matthias smiled even more. His dad was asleep.

Thank fucking god.

Matthias walked up the steps and carefully opened the door, proceeding to walk to his room upstairs. As he arrived at the bedroom door, Matthias closed it.

"Hello Matthias."

Matthias jumped backwards because when he turned around, there was a man standing near his window.

"HOLY SHIT!" he said as he fell. Matthias got up and squinted at the man. The man was about Matthias' height. He was black and was wearing a robe similar to Amenadiel off of the show 'Lucifer.' But the weirdest part? He had wings. They were pretty, sure, but it didn't change the fact that he had them.

Matthias shook his head. "I must be high or something." he said. "Are those...real?" he asked, poking the wings. Yup, they were real alright. He looked up at the man, backing up as he did so. Matthias continued to circle and poke the man until he had gotten irritated.

"ENOUGH!" he barked. Matthias stopped in front of him. The man looked into Matthias' eyes as he asked, "Do you know who I am?"

Matthias snorted. "If I knew who you were," he said, circling the man once again. "I wouldn't be so curious, now would I?" The man opened his mouth, like he wanted to say something. Then he closed it, finding no argument.

"I am an angel. Specifically, the archangel Gabriel."

"Gabriel? Like from the bible?"

"Yes, precisely."

Thinking about it, Matthias laughed. "Oh, you crack me up." Gabriel didn't look amused. "You think it's a joke, do you?" he asked amusingly. Matthias shook his head. "No. Not a joke. Just not the truth."

"How do you explain THESE then, hmm?" Gabriel expanded his wings.

He's got a point there, Matthias thought. "Well, why are you here then?" he asked Gabriel.

"Well, I WAS here to break the news to you."

"About?"

"Oh you know, the fact that Heaven and Hell exist." Matthias snorted, and Gabriel sighed, "You know what? How about we go get a cup of coffee?"

Matthias agreed, intrigued by this man. A couple minutes later, they were sitting at a table outside of a local cafe.

"Mmm, this is nice, isn't it?"

"I guess so."

"Well isn't this what you humans consume for energy?"

"Oh sure. IN THE MORNING."

"Well, it's never too late for a little boost of energy I say."

"It's FIVE O'CLOCK."

Gabriel set down his cup and started to explain the details that Matthias had been dying to hear. Heaven and Hell exists, God is real. So is the Devil. The angels and archangels are his children.

"Oh and demons exist too."

That sent a chill down Matthias' spine. "Are they allowed out of Hell?" he asked. Gabriel had a questioning look on his face.

"No. They technically aren't even allowed to possess mortals."

"But it's possible? For them to be among humans."

Gabriel thought about it. "Yes, I suppose it's possible. Why do you ask?"

Matthias looked left and right to make sure no one was listening. "Because, there are some strange things happening in this town." he whispered, leaning towards the middle of the table. "Like what?"

"About a month ago, my friend Annie told me there was an accident near her house."

"And?"

"The strange thing about it was that the neighborhood it occurred at hasn't had an accident ever. None whatsoever."

"That is a LITTLE strange."

"But that's not the worst of it," Matthias continued. "Apparently, there was no other driver. It was just the one guy. And it was a pretty bad accident. The car rolled over at least four times." Gabriel had a thoughtful expression on his face that said 'something doesn't add up.'

"And, also," Matthias started. "There's something that I found, something very strange and...disturbing last week."

Gabriel looked entrigued. "Go on."

Matthias took a deep breath as he recapped what had happened with the Greenhouse Incident (which is what everyone at school was calling it).

When Matthias finished, the angel also took a deep breath (That can't be good) as he said, "Then it's official. There are demons on Earth."
