The following evening, I arrived at the front of
the academy buzzing with nervous energy.
My heart raced, and I checked under my jacket for the ninetynineth time to make sure handn't forgotten my S&W500.
Justice Bianca drove around the curve of the
driveway and pulled to the lot. Ebube got out
carrying a backpack and stood by my side. She got
out too and walked around the car to join us.
"This is hard for me, Runso," she said. "I know you
see me as a legal practitioner, unfeeling, and a cold-hearted person." She glanced at Ebube. "But I'm sending my only stepSon, the only non-biological child I ever have and putting him into danger. I can't even give him a hug for
good luck."
"Tm going to be okay," Ebube said. "Don't worry about me Mom."
"Make me proud, boys." Without looking back,
Justice Bianca got into her Red Range Rover Sport and drove off. The familiar Hilux truck zoomed behind her.
Ebube pointed to the academy's entrance gate.
