Chapter 2

Thomas smiled to himself as he started walking towards the area where blacksmiths and jewelers usually set up. All around him vendors were shouting to get people to buy their goods. Goods that included everything from bread to saddle tack.

His smile widened as he noticed the sellers eyeing him. Most of the vendors selling were accustomed to Thomas’s usual game of stealing but then giving the good back.

Thomas raised his hands in surrender. “I’m not playing today. I promise.”

As Thomas neared the jeweler’s stall, he noticed a young boy playing with a wooden knight. The sight made him smile but the smile quickly disappeared when a tall-broad shouldered boy came up and took the knight. In rage, the younger boy stood up and tried to fight. With ease the brute pushed him to the ground.

Don’t interfere, it is not worth a swollen eye. Thomas tried to look away but found he couldn’t. Damn it all. He strode forward until he came level with the young kid, who was now crying.
