A small screech sounded out as the hovercar stopped, hovering over the road and slowly lowering itself, the backdoor opening.
Fable and Rein got out of the car and looked around with surprise.
The road up in front of them had been completely demolished. A black thick layer of smoke rose up from the giant skyscrapers ahead, giant flames burnt out from within apartment complexes, spreading and setting ablaze the surrounding buildings.
The sound of crying and screams was like that of a horror movie as people of all ages and sizes were running out of the city as cars were blockading the traffic, causing the dreadful chaos of honking cars mixed with the shouting of frustrated drivers.
"That's as far as I can take you," The driver commented, rolling up his window and making a U-turn away.
"Where's the gate?" Fable muttered, squinting and looking around, spotting a green crack hovering in the sky a few miles away.
"There's something green there," He pointed, nudging at Rein who also glanced up and frowned.
"A green gate?"
"I've never seen something like that either." Fable replied, jumping over the road guard and running towards the disaster, followed closely by Rein.
*GRAAAA*
A low growl suddenly rang out to their right as they ran.
"Woah there," Fable yell in surprise, taking his sword and blocking the attack of a flaming bear.
Using his shield, he stabbed the side of the bear, jumping backward to distance himself from the flames.
"I think this guy's for you," Fable looked over at the grinning Rein who seems unaffected from the heat resonating from the monster.
"Hell yeah," Rein exclaimed, jumping forward and charging at the bear barehanded, "Let's see whose flame is stronger,"
He tackled the bear, summoning his flaming sword and slashing into its hind.
With a roar, the bear rose up to its hind legs, the blood dripping down onto the ground, charring the remaining grass below.
"Now that's not really fair, is it," Rein muttered looking up at the intimidating bear, staring down at him with bloodthirsty eyes.
Spinning the sword in his hands, he held it like a dagger and once again charged at it, aiming for its head.
*GRAAAAA*
It screamed, falling backward, a large wound dug right into his eyes.
The bear slowly stopped moving as Rein nonchalantly began stabbing holes into its body every few seconds.
"Come on, Rein." Fable walked up to Rein, patting his shoulders with a sigh. "There's still the gate and all the other monsters to defeat."
"Alright, just let me just-," Rein replied, standing up while dusting his pant and using his sword to directly stab into the brain of the bear. "There we go,"
The sword disappeared from the bear's head as the two hunters once again ran towards the gate, killing all the monster which stood in their way.
----
"Is this a different type of gate?" Fable muttered, inspecting the massive green gate which stood before them, the pressure it emitted gave a rather intimidating pressure.
The gates they had been in previously had exuded no such aura, so the feeling they received from it was peculiar, to say the least.
"I guess the only way to find out is to go in," Rein groaned, already tired from the raid they completed in the last hour. "This is going to be a long day, isn't it."
"Only the two of us?" Fable looked at him with concern.
"That's the only choice. Gotta hurry. The monsters aren't gonna wait for us."
"Wait!" A shout called out from a distance as a woman with tied-up jet black-hair wearing a leather jacket came running over.
"I'll help you guys." She said, stopping in front of them with a serious look on her face. "My name's Mally. S Ranked Sorcerer." She introduced, holding out her arm as she used the other to swipe the status screen in front of her, sharing it with the two hunters before her.
