In expense of one's life

Thinking that it was actually her who made the other party agree to her terms, Cassie could not help but heave a deep sigh of relief because she felt a sense of accomplishment.

However, unbeknownst to the girl, Jared was just as relieved with the way things concluded between them just as how she was.

Cassie might think and give credence to herself that it was Lady Luck that helped her to win Jared's trust.

But little did she know that in actuality, the only reason why the man was willing to lend her a hand, in the first place, was because he also wanted to get something from her in return.

Oblivious of Jared's real intention for helping her, Cassie assumed that she was the only one who knew how to play its cards to her advantage.

Well, it was safe to say, that the girl thought it all wrong because by far, everything was going according to Jared's plan.

Cassie did not have the faintest idea that the other party's main goal was to make her feel indebted to him so that later on, once the right time for the opportunity to arrive, it would be a lot easier for him to lure her to join them in their quest of eradicating demons.

To begin with, Jared doubted that Ana would survive the exorcism rite. This would not be his first time to expel a demon out of a human and based on his experience he learned that there was high likely a chance that its mortal body would collapse as a result of the demon's resistance to leave.

Jared was hoping to tap at the emotional turmoil that Cassie would possibly undergo once this tragedy unfolded right before her eyes.

He calculated that her hatred towards the demon who brought the demise of her closest confidant would be enough for her to make a drastic decision of wanting the scourge of humanity gone.

As heartless as it might sound, Jared was actually looking forward to Ana's death because he would like to use this as an opportunity to ignite Cassie's desire to haunt the demon race down to its last survivor.

Besides, Jared also reckoned that aiding Cassie in exorcising the demon out of her friend's body could be a good medium to expose her to his reality. It was basically hitting two birds with one stone for him.

At the same time, it was also actually part of his plan, in the first place, to give the other party a firsthand experience prior to inducing her to make a decision that would require her to alter the way how she would live the rest of her mortal life.

Being a demon slayer was a life long commitment so before anything else, Jared wanted to give Cassie a glimpse first.

He wanted her to witness by her own eyes, the kind of potential danger that she would be signing herself to once she agree to become one of them.

In Jared's head, he was only looking after the girl's well-being and he was doing what was best for her.

As a matter of fact, not only did he believe that it was already so nice of him to consider making preparation for the other party but also he reckoned that all of it was pretty much for Cassie's own sake.

Meanwhile, as soon as the conversation came to its end, Jared decided to invite Cassie to his place with the pretext that it has something to do with their upcoming task.

He was thinking of bringing Cassie alone with him back to their hideout so that the other members of the guild could meet his soon to be, new recruit as well.

"How about you come with me, in the meantime? I will get things ready for the exorcism. I say you are lucky. The moon is full tonight. It was during this time that the exorcism is most effective."

"We will perform it tonight."

For some reason, Cassie acted surprised when she learned that the activity would be going to happen on that same day. This time, it was Jared's turn to get confused so he replied,

"Yes, of course."

But not before raising an eyebrow. Then with his upturned eyebrows, Jared asked Cassie back,

"Why would you wish to delay it anyway?"

Jared figured out that if he would have to be honest to himself, he must admit that he could not comprehend the rationale behind why Cassie would wish to prolong the suffering of her friend.

But then Jared eventually ruled out the possibility that there was a high chance that her action was only due to the fact that Cassie was clueless.

He suspected that the other party has no idea about the possible implications if the situation was left unattended.

From the current looks of it, the girl did not realize that Ana was just a threat to others just as it was to her. As such, Jared felt the need to explain a few points to her.

"The longer that demon was allowed to use your friend's body, the more lives would be put in danger. Yes, you are its main target. But that did not mean that it was safe to assume that the demon inside your friend will not commit other murders."
