The thing about Thanatos, the great and mighty scythe, is that he has seen his fair share of prodigies and all kinds of geniuses in his "life". Most of them died in the battlefield, but some managed to live a very long life and died of old age.
But this one, the one in front of him, has INFINITE potential! He saw myriads of elements, almost infinite, yet to be discovered! Time and Space, Creation of Everything, and even the element of the world! This kid can harness every element there is, he just needs time. Time is all he needs to grow stronger, surpass those of old, and he even has the potential to rule over the world!
Inside, Thanatos smirked. He cannot let other people know about Auguste's talent. That will only hinder his progress.
"How many elements did you see for you to react like that, Thanatos?" The elf asked.
He replied, "You won't believe this, Whitewood, but this kid has affinity to 20 elemental affinities! This is the only time in my life as a great and mighty scythe that I was able to see a prodigy this great!" Of course, he lied about the number. The sheer amount of elements this kid has is infinite!
'What do you mean he peeked through my talents?' I asked tutorial bot.
[He probably saw millions, if not, an infinite amount of affinity inside you when you touched him. And he knows the consequence of revealing that to the world, so he lied about the numbers. I say you choose him as your weapon, he'll be useful for future exploits. And the information he holds may throw you in danger, so, if you have him in your hands, you can always destroy him to hide the truth about your talent]
I mentally nodded, knowing tutorial bot's words were right.
This scythe is dangerous, not just in terms of being a weapon, but it knowing a bit of my secrets. I need to hide what makes me so strong; so talented.
The man whose name is probably 'Whitewood, reacted in surprise.
"20 elemental affinities? Such a natural prodigy… this sect surely lucked out with you! Hmm, if you would like to, I can give you Thanatos right now, just as long as you fulfill your promise to me," Said Whitewood.
I didn't think twice about it, and said, "Sure! If you can give me a detailed description about the object you want me to fetch for you in the depths of this tower, then I'll be on my way!"
"That thing is going to be very obvious when you reach the deepest part of the beast tower. But just to make sure, that object is shaped like an orb and it sits on top of a short pillar with a barrier protecting it. The barrier, from what I have heard, is quite strong. I say that even with your strongest attacks, you would still not put even a small scratch on it. But there is a way to open it; by defeating the undead dragon guarding it. But, the question is, can you defeat it?"
I furrowed my eyebrows.
'Undead Dragon? It's guarding that object? Uh, what? I can't defeat that! That's a motherf*cking dragon! An undead, but still a dragon nonetheless!' I raged in my thoughts, his irrational request enraging me.
[Don't worry about that, Auguste. Dragons are immune to most kinds of magic, that means undead magic doesn't even affect them that much. It probably only has a fraction of its original strength, meaning you may still have a chance defeating it]
'That's a thing? Huh…' I was taken aback by that. So, dragons are immune to most elemental magic? Does that mean they are also immune to healing magic? I'll ask my master about that later.
I nodded, and said, "I… can manage."
He smiled joyfully, and clapped both of his hands, saying, "Great! Now, off you go. I still have things to do. Don't forget to take Thanatos with you!"
I sighed, and took the scythe.
I swung it around a bit with one hand, and it was difficult. This scythe is not suited for tight-spaced areas like hallways and the like. I'll probably get a smaller weapon; a katana, for example.
"Hey! Don't just swing me around, that's a bit insulting to my might and prestige!" The scythe said.
I ignored the weapon, and searched for the door a bit.
After hearing Whitewood's regards, I left to go to the first floor of the Beast Tower.
The door was behind the lobby, and I opened it, an arena made purely of stone was in front of me. The arena was quite big, around 30 square meters. Is this going to be the regular size for the arenas here? How did they even build this? For me, this is a bit of a mystery.
Anyway, the arena was lit up by the walls. It seems like these stone walls are able to emanate light.
I walked in, cautious. I saw no gates where they could release the beasts so, my question is, how are they going to drop the magical beast here?
My question was quickly answered when I arrived in the middle of the arena.
A goblin appeared so suddenly 10 meters away from me, snarling and looked quite rabid. It didn't have any equipment on it, just its claws.
"Graa!" It tried to roar, but just sounded like a dog with throat problems.
*Woosh*
I didn't bother to take my time, and ended its life with a single large fireball, burning it to ashes instantly.
'Is that the best this arena can do? And what's up with that? It suddenly appeared in front of me!' I was taken by surprise, of course, since it's not every day you see a monster appearing so suddenly in front of you.
Either way, it was dead and nothing can be done. I just need to be cautious.
I didn't see anything strange after defeating the goblin. But then, two goblins appeared in front of me, but like the last one, they died instantly after I blasted them away with my fire magic.
Exactly 10 seconds passed when those two appeared. A coincidence? I'll observe more.
And, I was right. Another 10 seconds passed, and 3 goblins appeared. This time, they had equipment. Leather armor and iron weapons. Axe, sword, and spear.
But even then, they still died with a quick burst of flames.
It was so easy that I felt a lot more cautious than before.
Alexander once said to me that when everything seems to be going smoothly, too smoothly, that means there is something wrong. And only now I've taken that to heart.
Another batch of goblins appeared. 4 of them were all covered by iron armors from head to toe, had iron weapons, and were more feral than before.
But, in the end, they died when I electrocuted them.
'For f*ck sake, stop wearing metal armor! I'm tired of killing everyone with just a simple lightning spell. God!' Honestly, it's hard having too much common sense sometimes.
"Partner, don't get too complacent. Always be cautious, even when entering the floor below this. Whitewood has told me that this beast tower is dangerous, more dangerous than one might think," The scythe said.
"Partner?" I asked, a bit confused at that name.
"Well, since you chose me as your weapon, I might as well call you my partner. We're going on grand adventures, godly exploits, saving princesses and kingdoms, killing evil tyrants, and much, much more in the future! So, I think 'partner' is appropriate. And, from now on, call me 'partner' also!" The scyth-- Partner said
Heh, why not?
As we were talking, 5 more goblins appeared, wearing silver armor from head to toe, and equipped with magic weapons. But, as usual, they were defeated within a single snap of my fingers.
"Hmm, I think that's appropriate also. Partner It is! I like the sound of that," I genuinely said.
"But, by the way, who was that elf guy? I don't think they mentioned him when I went to challenge the beast tower," I asked.
"Oh, him? The best you can say that he is a nobody. No one knows him well more than I do, at least as far as I can see it. Anyway, partner, don't ask too many questions, he once got angry when I did," Partner said, a bit apprehensive.
I nodded, as I kept killing goblins.
