Beautiful chaos

One of the assailants turned his attention towards Monie and her group.

He charged forward with obvious aggression.

"Get behind me."

Monie looked towards Sir Davis who growled at her. His back was hunched down forming a tight arc and the tip of his sword which he held firmly both hands hovered a few inches above the ground.

"My lady, please go on ahead with miss Monie." He spoke without looking away from the fast-approaching aggressor.

"But-"

"GO!" He growled at the princess. Although his tone was slightly aggressive it was laden heavily with concern.

Monie watched hesitation hover on the princess's face for a split second before her gaze steeled.

Alina rode her horse to Monie's side. With a yank more than Monie thought was possible for the over pampered lassie, she was pulled unto the horse's back.

"Go." Sir Davis said again although softer this time.

"Stay alive," Alina ordered in a soft voice before riding away towards the pier where the second brig was docked.

Sir Davis didn't reply but his grip on the blade tightened.

The attacker dashed forward with a fast swing cutting downwards towards the knight.

*Clang*

Sir Davis parried the strike with a simple but firm swing upwards.

Monie watched as the two continued to fight. Worryingly, they appeared evenly matched.

She turned her gaze forward, towards the brig. There another small group of attackers clashed with the knights defending the ship, it appeared they were trying to prevent the ship from being used.

Monie grew worried. If they were unable to board the ship and make it to the other side things might take a sudden turn for the worse.

She glanced at the princess and saw her staring expressionlessly at the battle ahead, She appeared to be riding straight for the thick of it.

"B-but Princess," Monie spoke baffled but the princess glanced at her with a strange gaze. The words she wanted to say got stuck in her throat.

"Stop stuttering." Alina's cold voice sounded.

An ominous feeling budded in Monie's heart.

Within seconds they arrived at the brig.

"Princess!"

"Protect the Princess!"

Some of the knights called out, fighting to create a path for the two to pass.

But their efforts seemed unnecessary

Strangely, the duo rode through the thick of the battle towards the ship's port side.

But they weren't attacked. It was almost as if the attackers were too busy fighting to notice,

Or just deliberately ignoring them,

As if they didn't exist.

Monie's apprehension grew stronger.

She felt surreal.

The maid watched with a baffled gaze as the attackers and knights fought viciously around them, yet they rode through unscathed.

The horse suddenly stopped and Monie was jerked out of her thoughts.

Three men dressed as sailors with red scarfs wrapped around their necks stood in front of their horse. They jumped off the ship and were unsurprisingly armed.

The men quickly moved to restrain them, pulling them down from the horse.

"Hey! Let go of me!"

"Help!"

The two called out. Some knights attempted to come to their aid but they were held up by the remaining knights and shockingly enough a few of their own.

Traitors appeared.

Monie and the princess were hoisted unto the ship, there they saw the corpses of a few men.

Dead knights. They appeared to have just been killed.

The men roughly dropped the duo on the ship and signalled to their members sailing the ship.

Monie saw some knights aboard standing by some of the unknown attackers. More traitors.

She looked towards the pier and saw men still fighting. In the distance, she saw Sir Davis covered in bloody wounds.

There he fought with two other men and appeared to be in dire straits.

*BOOM*

Another explosion sounded from behind her.

Monie turned towards the source and paled even further.

Across the river, a pillar of black smoke rose from the port side of the second brig. The ship was in flames and was quickly taking in water.

Monie's jaw hung limply open as she watched the other side also fall into disarray

"His majesty always did say that it's only in chaos that there can be change."

A chill ran up Monie's spine when she heard the princess's soft voice.

She turned around to face Alina who leaned against the ship's mast, gazing out at the flaming ship in the distance.

The princess turned to face her.

"I didn't understand then, but I think I do now."

"So what do you think, Monie? It's beautiful, isn't it?" Alina asked with a small smile

"The chaos, I mean."
