CHAPTER 35

JAUNE ARC POV

"Jaune. I don't understand this chapter." Ruby whined as she pushed her Home assignment to him and gave him a pitiful look.

"What can't you understand?" he asked as he looked at Weiss, wondering why she wasn't helping Ruby like she usually did.

"This part." Ruby said as she pointed at the History book.

"And why aren't you asking Weiss to help you? She's better at it than I am." Which was true. Out of all four of them, Weiss was the smartest and had the best grades in their class followed by Pyrrha.

He and Ruby were kinda at the bottom of the class. Ruby because she had to jump two years to get to Beacon and him because the Original Jaune never went to any Huntsman Academy before this and hadn't studied their curriculum.

Still, the course wasn't that hard as Beacon was filled with students like Ren and Nora who had almost no education aside from knowing how to read and write before they came to Beacon.

The only reason why he was doing so badly in his classes was that he had put most of his focus in his training rather than his studies.

Not a lot of reason to put effort into your studies if you know that the school would be going to shit in a few months.

Though he did wonder if the Ancient Wyvern would still wake up if he Captured and Sold Cinder before she could enact her plans to fuck up the City of Vale.

"Weiss did offer to help me last night but I-" there was a knock on their door and Ruby paused.

Then she bursts into petals and was standing at the door.

"Ruby what have I said about not using your semblance in the room!" Weiss chided from the other side of the room but it didn't look like she put too much effort into it. She was likely resigned to Ruby doing what she wanted in the end anyway.

Ruby opened the door and her smile widened "Yang. What are you doing here?"

The blonde-haired girl entered the room and mussed Ruby's hair, getting a whine out of the younger girl "What? Can't I come to meet my little sister every now and then?"

"But… you spend most of your time with your teammates these days." Ruby pouted.

Yang's smile faltered for a moment before she pulled her sister in a hug and mushed her cheeks "Sorry about that. But I'm actually here to talk with Pyrrha."

Pyrrha, having heard her name being uttered turned from her work to look at Yang "Oh hey Yang. What can I help you with?"

Yang fidgeted in her place for a moment, which was quite unlike the usually boisterous girl. "Can I talk with you Pyrrha? Alone?"

Pyrrha nodded and got up from her before heading outside with Yang quickly following behind her.

He looked at the door close behind them and then at a slightly sad expression of Ruby "What was that about?" he asked in a cheerful voice, hoping to lift the younger girl's mood.

"Dunno." Ruby said with her head down as she went to her bed and flopped down on it.

He and Weiss exchanged looks. Him telling her to help Ruby because she was Ruby's partner and her telling him to help Ruby because he was the Leader.

In the, he got up from his seat and pulled out a box from within his drawers.

He went and sat down beside Ruby who didn't react to his presence "How about a box of Chocolate cakes."

The box in his hand was gone before he could blink and the next moment, Ruby was stuffing her face with his hand-made Chocolate cake.

"This is soooo good!!" Ruby said as she let out a moan.

He rubbed his head and looked a Weiss whose face had turned red at the lewd noises Ruby was making while eating as she did her best to look at anywhere else but at him.

Their relationship over the past few weeks had improved.

Mostly because of his rapid improvement in their daily morning spars which earned him some respect from her but also because of the snacks and Fruit Juice that he made for them on a daily basis.

"Ruby!" Weiss bit out "Stop making such… such noises when eating."

Ruby paused in her eating and then turned to give Weiss a sheepish smile "Teehehe. Sorry!"

Weiss looked like she wanted to say something but in the end, she simply sighed and shook her head before she went back to her homework.

Professor Oobleck really gave them a lot of homework.

"It's alright. You feeling better now?"

Ruby gave a happy nod but he could see some sadness hidden behind her cheerful disposition. He could feel her saddened emotions as well thanks to his weak Psychic power even if they were hidden behind a layer of gratefulness.

Was being grateful even an emotion?

He didn't know but he could definitely feel it coming from Ruby.

Well, can't do anything else to cheer her up.

"Come. Let's see if I can help you with your studies." He said as he walked back to his table.

A few minutes later, there was another knock on the door and Ruby quickly left her seat to open it.

Unfortunately for the girl, this time it was only Pyrrha.

Pyrrha walked in and sat beside him.

He raised an eyebrow at that and asked "Is everything alright?"

He noticed how Ruby was paying careful attention to them and Weiss was doing the same even if she pretended to be studying.

"Yes. It's just… Yang asked me to train her as well."

"Yang did?" Ruby asked, "Please tell me you said yes."

Pyrrha gave Ruby a rueful smile "I did."

"Thank you thank you thank you!!" Ruby said and promptly hugged her older girl.

It was only not that he was starting to realize that while Ruby did have a supportive team, she also missed her big sister.

And because the relations between team ASPR and team LBVY weren't as good as they were between team RWBY and team JNPR from the canon, Ruby didn't get to spend much time with her sister.

Oh well, it seemed that it would not be a problem any longer.

But still…

"What about her teammates?" he asked.

Pyrrha grimaced at that "I don't know whether you noticed or not Jaune but Blake doesn't seem to like you very much."

He frowned at her words. He had suspected that it was something like this. He had no idea why Blake seemed to dislike him so much when she had no problems with the Canon Jaune. He even went out of his way to save Velvet from being bullied so Blake must know that he wasn't a racist.

Oh well, if she hates him then let her do so. It wasn't as if he liked her anyway.

"What about Ren and Nora?" he asked.

Pyrrha shrugged "I don't know Jaune. But from what little I've seen, team LBVY isn't as close as our team or even team CRDL for that matter."

He nodded, wondering why that would be so.

After thinking about it for a moment, he decided that it didn't really matter. It wasn't his problem so he wasn't going to waste his brain cells thinking about it.

"You asked her to join us early in the morning?"

Pyrrha nodded.

"Well, it seems like I'll have to make 5 Fruit Shakes from tomorrow on."

—————

AN: Just wanted to show the usual dynamic in the team and remind you of the fact that while it may not seem like it, Jaune is still a student in an Academy and does have to study and do his homework like everyone else.
