NARUTO POV
(AN: Jaune will be called Naruto from here on out in order to avoid confusion.)
He walked through the dirt roads of Konoha and observed the village with keen eyes.
The village was much larger than he had seen in the anime or manga.
Large enough to hold a population of about 20,000 shinobi and over 5 times that number of civilians.
The village might have been 'Hidden' in the leaves when it was first built. But it had passed that threshold a long time ago.
At this point, he wouldn't be surprised if every single major village knew about the location of the other major villages.
He noticed that most of the buildings were made from wood and only a select few were made from brick, cement, and all the things that you would see in a modern-day building.
The technology level of this world was frankly all over the place.
He had seen a bookstore where the books were filled with coloring pages and had beautiful photos in them. Meaning that the Elemental nations have advanced printing press at the very least.
On the other hand, there were no telephone lines on the streets.
It didn't take him long to guess why the technology was so different.
And the reasons were… Shinobi.
Any technological advancement that could change or affect the shinobi lives is destroyed.
If a rich merchant tries to build a railway system, then his rivals will simply hire a few shinobi, and that Railway line will be destroyed before it could even be completed.
If a Daimyo tries to set up Telephone lines throughout his country, then the other Shinobi villages will destroy it in order to stop the other village from having a leg up in the next war.
This is probably why the only things in the Elemental Nations that see true advancement are the things that don't affect Shinobi's lives.
That also explained why the village was able to advance at such a rapid pace when Naruto brought a decade-long peace into the world.
All in all, the current situation of the Elemental Nations was a bit disappointing. But that's human nature for you.
He also didn't fail to notice the looks thrown his way.
No. People didn't give him hateful looks and no one tried to beat him up for being a 'demon brat'.
But the wary looks people sent his way and the manner in which everyone tried to avoid him did a good job of ruining his mood.
He picked up his pace and quickly arrived at the front of the Academy Gates.
And just as he had expected. The Academy was huge. Far larger than was shown in the manga. If fact. Comparing this Academy to the one that he had seen in the manga was like comparing Titanic to a dingy little boat.
Understandable.
With how short the lifespan of an average shinobi is, the Academy would probably have to churn out at least 1,000 Genins every year.
From what little the original Naruto knew about this world. Only the best students gained a Jounin as their teacher. The decent ones will get a Chunin as their teacher. The leftovers will be sent to the Genin corps where they'll be taught en masse by an instructor or be given the opportunity to join a team that has just lost one of its members.
Most of them will die within a few years.
He was not surprised by how brutal the whole thing was.
Accidentally wiping out a huge portion of a world's population tends to open your eyes to the true realities of the world.
The Naruto manga and anime showed the rose-tinted version of a world where a man could murder 1000 enemies and be hailed and loved as a hero for murdering them. Where the Hokage was a kind-hearted old man who treated the MC as his grandchild. Where the shinobi gave their lives to protect the village and the 'will of fire' and not because they've been indoctrinated from a young age to do so. Where the—
He shook his head and erased such thoughts from his mind.
No point in thinking about things that won't help him.
He realized that Ruby was probably among the Genins who'll be carted off to the Genin corps.
He'll have to talk with Kakashi and help her in some manner.
If he ended up with Kakashi as a teacher.
Butterfly effect was a thing after all.
With that thought, he used his memories and transversed the large corridors of the school until he finally reached his class.
Class 6-A.
The class of the privileged few.
A class which was given to the Clan heirs or civilians that come from rich or influential families.
He wondered if the fanfictions in which Sakura's parents were shown as part of the Civilian Council had any inkling of truth to it.
Probably not. But her parents must still have some level of influence to get her admitted in this class.
After all, it wasn't like she had any redeemable qualities when she was young.
Aside from her high intelligence and frightening Chakra Control.
...
On second thought, she might have gotten a scholarship for all he knew and cared about.
He opened the door and was met with the sight of kids that he remembers from his memories of seeing them in the anime.
He looked around and was able to recognize the Rookie 9 even if he was seeing them in real life instead of 2D drawn images of them.
Shikamaru still had that pineapple hair. Chozi still looked fat and had that weird hairstyle where it looked like he was wearing underwear upside down. Kiba had Akamaru on his head and the red markings on his cheeks that his Clan members were known for. Hinata was a cute girl who looked blind because of her Byakugan. And Sasuke…
What the hell?
A cute female Sasuke looked at him and gave a mischievous smile. A smile that he remembered all too well.
That's not Sasuke.
That's…
"Pyrrha?"
