Lu Jingren walked towards her. Lilian Mo took a step backward in reflex.
"???"
Lu Jingren didn't seem to understand why she was suddenly backing away from him since there was a trace of confusion in his face which made Lilian Mo rethink her stance.
'He is playing with me... that must be it.' She thought.
Was she bias? She would admit it to it but Lilian Mo has many reasons to be.
Furthermore, she cannot get over the fact that he caged her for three years and if it hadn't been for luck and Nora's help, she would have never escaped him...
Lilian Mo might still be the same bird locked inside a cage, far away from human contact and people. It sounded safe but in truth, it was miserable for her. During the days she was alone, she thought about Mu Qingqing and the Chen family.
Where were they?
Were they still alive?
Were they eating right?
Lilian Mo's only hope back then was to ask Lu Jingren for information and that man had never been good at expressing himself. She had to coax him before he could even reveal anything to her.
But...
For some reason, this Lu Jingren before her willingly spoke to her and had even asked her what to do. She was really curious about what he was planning by acting this way. Either way, she would not let her guard down.
"Lilian." Lu Jingren called. She flinched, feeling awkward since it has been so long since someone called her by that name.
"This child's name is Zhang Youji. Age. Eight years old, sixteen weeks, thirteen hours.." He paused, then turned to his watch. ".. eleven minutes. He is an only child. His mother mutated into a creature that is neither human nor mutant. It is cannibalistic in nature and its primary target is ability users."
Well, that was certainly very informative.
Fu Yangzhu elbowed Mizuki Rei and whispered. "Little Rei, is it just me or the rest of us are invisible. Why is Boss Ren only talking to sister-in-law? And how on earth did these two managed to be on a first-name basis? Am I seeing things?"
"How should I know? Do I look like another Yuelao to you?" Mizuki Rei answered back in an annoyed tone. "Sigh. What is happening to our Boss Ren? Does he really like that scary girl? This is so sudden."
Mu Qianmo remained watching. He was the most curious when it came to the two people who had just been acquainted the other day.
Lu Jingren continued, his tone was low but there was something magnetic about his voice that made people feel drawn towards him. "This child has an ability. He showed me three months' worth of memory during the apocalypse by using that ability of his."
He placed a hand on his temple, massaging it. It seemed that the overflow of information made his heart hurt. "If my guess is correct, it only works during physical contact with the target."
His eyes glanced at Zhang Youji, narrowing. The little child stiffened, trembling under that intense gaze.
"If he can do that then this child is a mental ability user." Lilian Mo concluded as she also leveled a gaze towards Zhang Youji.
Mental ability users were very rare. And those with extremely useful abilities were even rarer. They rely on their mental power and consciousness. Some possess clairvoyance and can even see through miles without moving in place while others can create illusions to deceive not only humans but also mutants.
In a way, they were dangerous. To balance this out, their combat ability was almost next to nothing since most of their energy would be spent on their mental power. When these ability users overused their abilities, it can lead to mental exhaustion and full-blown burnout, making them extremely vulnerable.
What made Zhang Youji special as a mental ability user was that he could maintain his cognitive performance in prolonged periods of time. This was one of the main reasons why Sister Xi took him under her wing.
"What do you want to be called?" Lilian Mo asked the child while keeping her tone soft.
"Uh... Big sister, you can call me anything, but my Mom calls me Xiao Ji." He answered before he unashamedly ran off towards her and left Lu Jingren's side without a second thought.
Zhang Youji deemed her to be safer compared to Lu Jingren.
The handsome big brother was good looking but he was way too scary for him! The handsome big brother had contemplated killing him because he had sensed that there was something off about him...
…and if it weren't for his initiative to show that he was an ability user, the handsome big brother would have offed him just like the old man earlier.
Zhang Youji was terrified.
He was aware that he was also in the wrong for wanting to lure them to his Mom so they would fight but it was because he wanted someone to help his Mom! This handsome big brother was too cautious! He had only smelled blood on him and a mutant's scent and already, he was contemplating on killing him.
The handsome big brother had immediately realized that Zhang Youji didn't have good intentions at first.
'He was so scary and vigilant!'
Lilian Mo watched the child and was careful not to touch Zhang Youji. The last thing she wanted was for her memories to leak towards him. That was simply asking for trouble. Besides, the child wouldn't be too happy to know that it was Lilian Mo who killed him in her previous life.
'Although I did it because that Zhang Youji had led thousands of innocent people to their deaths so I had no problem killing that version.' However, the Zhang Youji beside her had probably just started his job of being bait since it was still quite early in the apocalypse.
With this in her mind, Lilian Mo was able to think rationally and pacify her emotions.
"Tell us about the mutant at your home."
