1/10 of 2 Million

"Hey, Uncle... If you want to die, you can just say so." Lilian Mo retorted. For a man whose face was always stoic, he talks a lot and has a lot of things to say. What an annoying person.

"Uncle? Hey, I am not even in my 30s just yet. I'm still young." What kind of injustice was this? What the hell?

"I don't even want to be called cute. I'm not a dog." Lilian Mo pushed her hands deeper into her pockets. "Anyway, enough about that. Why are we going northwest? Shouldn't we be going north instead?"

"What kind of nonsense are you saying? Why would we go north.. that place is just... Ah..." Nathan Yang slowly realized something.

"Did you perhaps think that the base we're going to is located north?" Nathan Yang thought it was funny. These kids must have been new to the city because they still did not know about the recent news.

Mu Qianmo glanced at Lilian Mo. "City B's unfinished base was said to be north. Isn't that right, Little Sister Mo?"

"Yes.."

Nathan Yang started to laugh at them. This simple action caused some of the others to rouse awake.

"Mmm... Momo, why is it so noisy..?" Mu Qingqing rubbed her eyes tiredly.

"Ah! I'm awake! I didn't sleep!" Mizuki Rei said, standing up abruptly which caused him to hit the roof of the truck. "Ouch!"

"What's with all the noise, Little Rei?" Fu Yangzhu muttered, blinking tiredly.

"Big sister, what happened...?"

"Ah... I'm so sleepy..."

Nathan Yang leaned on his seat, his arms crossed over his chest. He seemed to be thinking a bit, about what to say or not. But then, after a few seconds, he figured that it wouldn't hurt to tell since it wasn't really a secret.

Anyway, it wasn't like he was involved in what happened so he couldn't really care much. What he only cares about is repaying his benefactor. That was all.

"Okay, little kids. Listen well. It's storytime." Nathan Yang began.

The others who were awake were a little confused but they eventually turned to him to listen since it seemed very important.

"There was originally a base at the north that was being built by retired military personnel with connections. The news was spread and survivors were called to take refuge in the base to speed up its construction. There were also some really skilled people so it wouldn't get attacked by mutants. Although it isn't perfect, it was better than living out in the streets where those monsters are roaming around. At the very least, that base provided them with food, shelter, and safety... Well, as safe as you can get in an apocalyptic world that is. But does it matter?" Nathan Yang said with a hint of mocking. Out of habit, he took out another cigarette stick from his clothes and was in the process of lighting it with his lighter when it disappeared from his hand, again.

He looked at Lilian Mo with disapproval.

Mu Qianmo took it out instead. "Mr. Yang, let's not smoke while the 'kids' are around, okay?"

He could practically hear the other party's mocking. Nathan Yang's expression didn't change so he continued. These kids are really not cute.

"The military was establishing its own base since the population in City B is more than two million yet the base at the north can only shelter up to 10,000 occupants." In the next sentence, Nathan Yang's tone became darker.

"They say that in peace, everyone can live in harmony... But once faced with the threat of death, morals would fly out of the window. Once out of social supervision by the law, some cowardly people will only live life for themselves."

"Ugh... You talk too much, Uncle. Say it directly!" Fu Yangzhu quipped impatiently. His beauty sleep was interrupted so suddenly, how can he not get annoyed?

Nathan Yang did not even glance at him.

"Most people have only been thinking about simple things. To live, to survive, to eat, and drink." He said, raising four fingers in the air.

"Things like that. But they never realize the potential danger. We are now in an apocalyptic era where these monsters who eat human flesh roam around the city, waiting for their next prey. You would think that a base would be the safest place that can take you far away from these flesh-eating mutants. But that is where most people are wrong."

Nathan Yang glanced at Mu Qianmo. "In City B, there is a population of 2 million but how much of them survived?"

"I would guess that it should be 1/10 of two million that survived." Mu Qianmo answered. He wasn't sure but they rarely encountered any survivors in the city. In fact, he could count the number of times he met a group of them.

"And how much is 1/10 of two million?"

"200, 000." Lilian Mo said.

"Yes, 200,000 but there are only two bases in City B. One located north and the other, at the northwest. While the base at the north can accommodate 10, 000 people, the military base can accommodate up to 15, 000. Do you know what that means?"
