Chapter 3

Nick’s POV

Morning came and Nick scrubbed his eyes when a ray sunlight hit his face. He wandered why the place seems so familiar to him. He then blinked his eyes rapidly.

Why am I in my room?!

He then remembered last night, his boss drove him home.

He looked around the clock and realized it was 8:00 A. M. and it was Tuesday morning. ‘Cr*p! I still have work today!’

His phone ringed and grabbed it quickly. But the call just when on for a few seconds before he can grab it. It’s as if everything was on cue.

Jay: Don’t go to work today. I’ve fed your brother and drove him to school. I’ve bought medicines for your hangover.

While reading the text, a smile pursed into his lips. His boss made him smile. He wasn’t sure if he’s going to consider this a sweet actions from his boss.

He got out quickly of his bed and go straight to the bathroom to prepare for work even though his boss told him not to. Even if he’s late he will not be absent. There was a time when it was reported that a typhoon is going to hit their place but he didn’t care about it instead he got to his work early.

After his bath, he changed into his casual look when going to work. Light yellow button up shirt, cream brown fitted slacks, and his dark brown leather shoes. He dried his hair and just let some hair go into his forehead and some are covering his eyebrows. He got out of the apartment and left quickly.

Jay’s POV

His brows knitted together in confusion as to why he was seeing the person he was not supposed to see today. He checked again his phone to see if the text was really sent to Nick. He pressed a button to call his secretary to talk.

“Yes Sir? Do you need anything?” Nick asked him in the most innocent way as if it didn’t understood his orders.

He motioned his hand to the visitors chair to let Nick sit on his front. “Why are you here? Didn’t I tell you to not go to work today?” he asked in the most calm way ignoring his anger.

Nick crossed his arms that’s starting to annoy him. “I didn’t say yes though.” Nick answered him with the same ferocity.

“Damn it!” he whispered to himself. “Why won’t you listen to me?” He face palmed. “I said not to go to work today. And yet here you are bossing me again. May I remind you that I’m still your boss you’re my secretary? Now go home alone or I will drive you there?” he reminded his secretary.

“I won’t, boss. I’m resigning soon. I should do my best until the end. Even if you drive me home, I will get back here.” Nick sneered on him. “Do you want coffee? Tea? I’ll get you one.” Nick smiled on him as if nothing happened.

He stood up from his swivel chair and turn to Nick who’s still sitting from the chair. He grabbed Nick’s arm and drag him outside to his office.

Nick’s POV

His brows creased up as to why his boss’ grabbed his arms and drag him outside it’s office.

“Boss, let go of me.” He said as he get his hands free from the grip.

Jay turned around to him. “Cancel all my appointments today. I will go home with you today.” He said in monotonous voice.

“Huh? What are you saying?” he asked in confusion. “You mean you will go with me at my house?” His brows raised as he asked his Boss.

“Yes, because you have to rest. That’s for not obeying my order.” His eyes and tone is still in a cold manner. “And please, how many times do I have to say to you? Don’t call me boss. We are just around the same age.”

“Okay Boss, I mean J-jay.” He stuttered in saying Jay’s name. Well, he guess he have to be used to it.

“That’s way more like it.” He noticed that Jay’s smirking sending him a shiver along the spine.

He picked up his things on his desk and quickly go to the elevator where Jay’s been waiting. As they got on to the elevator Jay pushed the button to the ground floor.

“Wh-what are we going to do at my house?” He asked as awkwardness fell upon them.

“Just rest and don’t mind me. Just let me-“ Jay was cut talking as his phone ringed for a call.

He quickly grabbed and answered the phone without looking on who’s the caller.

“Hello? Who’s this?” he asked. “Oh yes, Mrs. Rodriguez. What’s wrong?” His brows knitted as to why is the teacher of his brother is calling. “Thank you for calling Mrs. Rodriguez. Just tell him that I’m on my way there. I’m gonna pick him up… yes. Thank you. Okay bye.” He hang up the phone after the conversation with the teacher of his brother. He sighed deeply without noticing that Jay is also in the elevator.

Jay tapped his shoulder. “What’s wrong?” Jay asked him with his voice in worry but his eyes were still emotionless.

“I have to pick up my brother from school.” He shook his head. “He’s having tantrums again.” He felt his eyes watered in a bit but he didn’t let the tears flow down his cheeks.

As the elevator opened it’s doors, his arms were grabbed by Jay. As soon as their body made a contact, it shoot him a electric shock.

“What are you standing there? Come on, we’re picking up your brother.” Jay told him as he turned the engine of his corvette on.

He quickly opened the door and got on. He put the seatbelt on and they quickly left the place.

Nick told the address of the school where his brother is. “What’s wrong with Stephen?” Jay asked him. The glint of worry is evident on his voice.

“He’s having tantrums. He’s always like that when he misses our parents.” He looked away as soon as tears fell on his cheeks. “I’ve never been a good brother to him. It’s been 7 years since our parents died. But he can’t forget those moments.” His voice was shaky.

“Hey, you’re a good brother to your sibling. I bet he’s very lucky to have you, so don’t you say that you’re not a good brother.” As Jay calms him down.

UPON arrival at Stephen’s school, he rushed to the school’s clinic where Stephen had been rushed. Jay was just following him until they got to the place.

“Hey baby, you okay? What happened? What’s wrong?” Nick panicked as he had seen his brother crying on the bed. “Hush, it’s okay. It’s okay. I’m here now. Don’t cry baby.” He pulled Stephen to his arms and hug the kid.

As Stephen’s cry turn to sobs, Jay pat the kid’s back.

Jay leveled his face to Stephen. “Hey kiddo. It’s okay, you’re brother’s here.” Stephen nods and turns around to Jay and hugs his boss. “okay, how about we go to the mall and amusement park? Is that okay?” Jay asks the kid as the kid’s lips curved and turned to a wide smile.
