Chapter 27: Time to Play

Ewan

I gaze down at my phone’s screen as the call cuts off. Taryn sounded despondent, and to hear her tell me that they’re going to kill her and Ava, makes my gut clench. I’m still astounded when I recall how callously Tamsyn planned to kill her own daughter. The woman is a bloody monster.

“Well?” Logan’s voice cuts into my reverie.

“She and Ava are still alive. She said that she’s in a mansion near the Valley. From Tamsyn’s trajectory, I gauge that we’re not far from where they are kept. I’m glad you called Bullet and told him to tail her while we follow a street over. I don’t want her becoming suspicious.”

Logan nods. “Did she say anything else?” My lips tighten as I gaze out into the sunny streets. There are people walking their dogs, trees swaying in the crisp wind, and clouds moving softly in the sky. It’s a beautiful day that contradicts the turmoil raging inside of me.
