Chapter 28
At dawn Jack woke up the others saying.
“A storm is brewing out there. I think the best thing is for us to get out of this cave and drive the truck back along the way we came.”
"Will the storm give us time to get to Irkutsk?" Dieter inquired.
“Probably not. Furthermore, I am not sure that we should return to Irkutsk. Once we're out in the open, I'll try to talk on the satellite phone with William Richardson. I want to convey what we have found, let them know that we are starting the return and ask him what assessment they make about the best way out.”
The journey on foot along the path that had led them to the waterfall was complicated by the need to carry the heavy chest. The men alternated in pairs to carry it, but they had to rest frequently.
