In all historical times Japan has experienced all the military alternatives both in its internal struggles and in its external wars.
Already in medieval Japan, and perhaps before, there were mercenary troops trained by their employers in alternative combat techniques, based not on frontal fights considered honorable, but on deception, the selective assassination of rival chiefs, espionage and the obtaining by deceit of information that would later allow victory in conventional warfare with regular armies led by samurai and warlords. One of his essential activities was sabotage behind enemy lines in order to spread demoralization and panic. Among other names they received that of Ninjas.
