Chapter 39

The bones were humming, angry, excited, confused. I tried to ignore the shiver I got every time I was close to Jonathan and took his hand. I ignored the wind, the sky, the moon, the present. I started to look for Annie.

"Annie?" My voice sounded odd even to me. I didn't dare to speak up, I was just whispering, hoping that there will be whisper coming back.

"You came, you forgot, lost in the dark, alone...." I could hear a voice, young woman's voice, Annie's voice. It didn't make any sense. I felt I was lost in a maze made up of time, taking away each and every layer, down to the core, where Annie should have been.

"Annie?"

"You came?" Annie was curious. She was looking for someone. There were so many emotions, from love to loss, from happiness to anger. It was truly dizzying. Every emotion had a different colour, I was just trying to make out the sense of it.

"Annie?" I could feel her coming closer.

"Who's there?"

"Annie?"
