Part VIII: Battle of the Twin Cardence

Fossil and the court jester went to Sun's office.

"We are here, Your Imperial Majesty." Fossil told Sunset as he opened the door.

"Nice timing, Fossil. I just finished the letter. Mr. Egwine, please bring this letter to the Waresfield city of the Republic of Cardence." Sunset told them as she handed the letter to Egwine the Jester.

"As you wish, Your Imperial Majesty. Excuse me." He replied, bowed and went away.

"Fossil, call Sun. We need to talk to him." Sunset told Fossil after Egwine went away.

"As you wish, Your Imperial Majesty. Magicae. Sana. Loquere. Tantum. Solis." Fossil chanted and a sun mark appeared in his forehead.

"Why, Fossil?" Sun asked with curiosity in his tone.

"Your Imperial Majesty, Empress Dowager Sunset called you, Your Imperial Majesty." Fossil replied.

"Son, we need you here in the capital. Immediately." Sunset told him.

"Mother, what happened? Is there any problem?" Sun asked with worry.

"It is a long story but come home in the capital immediately. We need you here." Sunset replied.

"Okay, mom. I will be there as soon as I can." Sun told his mother.

"Bye, son." She replied.

"Okay. Bye" Sun told as he dispelled his magic.

"Thanks, Fossil. You may take your leave now." Sunset told him.

"If you may excuse me, Your Imperial Majesty." Fossil bowed and went away.

Meanwhile, Sun and Flower is in Canopus City in the Canopus County. Sun was walking in the gardens of the count's palace when Flower saw him walking aimlessly around the garden.

"Is something the matter?" Flower asked in curiosity.

"Uh-huh. Nope. It’s nothing." Sun replied in surprise.

"Lunch is ready. Your uncle is calling us." Flower told him.

"I'll follow. Thanks for telling me." Sun responded and started walking westward.

"Where are you going? Lunch is this way." Flower asked him as she points on the opposite direction.

"I’m just going somewhere. I'll eat later." Sun told her as he continued to walk.

"Hey! Hey! No skipping meals. Come here. We will eat lunch now." Flower told him as she chased, grabbed him, and dragged him to the castle's dining hall.

"Hey? What are you doing? This is harassment to the emperor. Stop this at once. I will charge you with treason if you won't stop." Sun told her but she continued dragging him.

"Charge me if you can. Tee hee." Flower teased him and laughed cutely.

"As the emperor of Sun Empire, I charge you with treason for harassing the emperor." Sun replied as she continued dragging him.

"Hey. Nephew. Stop acting like a kid. Let's eat together." A man with white hair and red eyes told him.

Sun looked at the man's direction and lost his balance then he fell to the floor. He stood up and faced him.

"Uncle Oercis. Yes, uncle." He responded and they went to the dining hall while walking Flower laughed quietly.

"Cousin Sun, how are you doing?" A tall man with white hair and brown eyes asked as he put his arm on Sun.

"Cousin Osric, Nice to see you again. I am doing fine. Just busy with official duties. How about you?" Sun responded.

"Me? Still the same, cousin. Just fooling around." Osric answered as they continued walking.

"Sometimes, I am beating his ass to work around here." Oercis told them and they laughed.

"Father!" Osric exclaimed in embarrassment.

They reached the dining hall and they all sat on their seats.

"Let's have a toast for our emperor and my nephew, Sun." Oercis spoke as a raised his cup of wine.

"Cheers!" They cheered as they gave a toast for Sun.

"Thank you, Uncle. It is nice to visit here again. It's been a long time since I last visited here." Sun thanked him and drank his wine.

"Your welcome, Nephew. Without you and your father's contributions our empire won't recover from the losses of the past. Let's eat while the food is still hot." Oercis replied and they started eating.

They ate their food and drank their wine. After eating, Sun and Oercis had a private talk.

"Uncle, I have to ask you something." Sun politely said.

"Go ahead, Nephew. I'm all ears." Oercis replied as he patted his back.

"Can we borrow a horse? Mother told me that I need to hurry to the capital." He asked.

"Sure. You can borrow our fastest horses. to ensure your safety." Oercis replied with kindness.

"What about you uncle? What will you use?" He asked courteously.

"Don't worry bout us. As your uncle I must ensure that you will safely come home to your parents. It is also my duty as a count. To serve the emperor." Oercis answered and they walked northward to the stables.

Meanwhile, Flower was in the castle's gardens reading one of her books when Osric went to her.

"Oh. Hi." Flower said in surprise when she saw Osric.

"Hi, Miss Flower. It is a good day. Isn't it?" He replied with a question.

"Yeah. The sun is so bright today, Lord Osric." She replied in her normal tone.

"What are you reading?" He asked curiously.

"Oh. This is the book of flowery spells, Lord Osric." Flower replied.

"I see I see. Don't be so formal to me. Just talk casually, Miss Flower." He told her with a laugh.

"Okay, Osric." She replied.

"Yeah." He replied.

"If you may excuse me. I need to find Sun." Flower courteously told him and she stood up.

"Let's talk for a little while, Miss Flower." He was about to hold her arm when he felt a beam of light touched his skin.

"Osric! Have some manners." Oercis told him and he saw Sun looking at him with sharp eyes and his sword his pointing at him.

"I was just asking her for a talk." Osric replied.

"Don't disrespect my Flower." Sun yelled at him which left them in shock.

"S-s-sorry. C-c-cousinnnnnnnnnn!" Osric shouted in fear as he ran away.

"He is still a coward." Oercis laughed and pats Sun's back.

"Sorry, Uncle. Please forgive me." Sun kneeled and apologized.

"That's fine, Nephew. He deserves the punishment though." Oercis aided Sun to stand up.

"Sorry for causing trouble, Lord Oercis." Flower apologized and bowed.

"You shouldn't apologize, Miss Flower. It is my son's fault. Well then, let's go to your horses so you can attend your errands." Oercis stated as he guided them.

"Thank you, Uncle. I will bring them back as soon as possible." Sun thanked him and they mounted the horses.

"Don't worry about that, Nephew. Take care." Oercis replied.

"Farewell, Uncle. Take care. Hyaaaa!" Sun bid his farewell and they rode their way to the capital.

After a few hours, they reached the town of Toindaika in Lorquer County. They went to a nearby inn to rest and avoid the heat of the day.

"Magicae. Sana. Loquere. Tantum. Solis." Sun chanted when they entered their room in the inn.

"Yes, Your Imperial Majesty?" Fossil asked as his forehead had a sun mark.

"Fossil, ready yourself. I am near to reach the capital." Sun ordered him.

"As you wish, Your Imperial Majesty." Fossil replied and Sun dispelled the magic.

Night came, Sun and Flower reached the gates of the capital. They headed straight to the palace.

"Emperor, you are here. Your mother is waiting for you." Fossil welcome them.

"Guards. Please take care of this horses. These are my uncle's horses. Fossil, where is mother?" Sun ordered the guards and asked Fossil.

"Your Imperial Majesty is upstairs in your office." Fossil replied.

"What is she doing in my office?" Sun asked him and they rushed indoors.

They went up the spiral stairs until they reached his office. Sun opened the door hurriedly

"Mom. What are you doing here?" He asked as he opened the door.

"Why? Am I not allowed to enter here?" She asked.

"Just ask first before entering here." He replied.

"So, I need to ask first before entering a part of my house?" She asked him.

"I just don't want people just entering my office or my room." Sun irritatingly said.

"Okay. Sorry. I won't enter your office without permission." She replied sarcastically.

"Why did you summon me in a hurry, mom?" He asked.

"The letter is in your table." She replied and went away.

"Mom, why?!" Sun asked again but this time he is irritated.

"Read what's on the table." She replied and walked away with irritation.

Sun went inside along with Flower and Fossil then they closed the door.

"Your Imperial Majesty, this letter was sent..." Fossil reported but he was interrupted.

"Let me read it." Sun told him and he continued to read the letter.

After a few moments, Sun finished reading the letter and he looked at Fossil.

"Fossil. Ready yourself. You will go to the Margrave of Altair by next sunrise. You may now start preparing." Sun ordered him.

"As you wish, Your Imperial Majesty." Fossil said as he bowed and went away.

"Flower, you can stay here. I will bring you to your room." Sun told her as he stood up and went out of his office.

Meanwhile, Moon was on her office when one of her maids knocked and entered.

"What is it?" She asked as she look on the reports she received from the island realms.

"Your Majesty, you received a letter." The maid replied as she put it on the table.

"Thank you. You may take your leave now." Moon told her and she went out.

She opened the letter and saw its sender.

"To Her Royal Majesty, Moon of Moon Realm.

We are the Union of Southern Cardence. We would like to ask for help and assistance. Our newly formed country is under attack by the Republic of Northern Cardence. I believe that you will help us in our efforts to defend our country.

-President of the Union of Southern Cardence"

"I see. Republic of Cardence is being torn apart. It would be a good proposition for us to cease its existence." Moon told herself and laugh then she went out of his office.

She went out of the office and went to the stables then she rode her horse and went to the Royal Army Headquarters to meet Soil who was doing her duties. After an hour, she arrived and everyone was shock in her surprise visit of the headquarters. Soil went out to check what is happening and saw Moon walking on the grounds. She hurried downstairs to meet her.

"Soil, I have an official business with you." Moon told her and they went to her office.

They reached Soil's office and Soil can feel that Moon is up to something.

"Would you like a cup of tea, Your Majesty?" Soil asked her as she sat down on the chair.

"No, thanks. I'm good." Moon responded happily.

"How may help, Your Majesty?" Soil asked with confusion.

"I have a mission for you. Prepare yourself. You will go to Barmouthel in Orocheria Margrave. Bring this letter to the Margrave. He will send you to the city of Bramle in the Union of Southern Cardence along with an army." She told her as she gave the letter to Soil.

"As you wish, Your Majesty. I will proceed immediately." Soil replied.

A few days passed, Soil and her troops along with the forces from Union of Southern Cardence marched through the city of Launbydon and went outside the city of Waresfield.

"Fire the mangonels!" Ymma Botielda, the General of the Union, said as they went into their formations.

Meanwhile, Republic troops are sheltering on the city walls. Wilgils Burgwine, leader of the Republican troops, saw the green haired, fair-skinned and blue-eyed general leading the enemy army.

"Fire the trebuchets! Archers attack!" Wilgils shouted as their armies exchanged fires.

Both armies exchanged stones and arrows. The republican troops are at losing position.

"Troops advance!" Soil shouted from the front.

"This is the end!" Wilgils shouted.

Meanwhile, Baldred Herewulf, the president of the Republic, was in the presidential palace signing the terms of surrender.

"Mr. President! Our troops are outnumbered and we have no chance of winning." One of the soldiers reported.

"Let them come! Our troops will not die in vain. One day, we will come again and rise from the defeat today." Baldred told the soldier.

"What is your plan, Mr. President?" Jambert Bertwald, the Prime Minister of the Republic, asked him.

"Send this letter. They will stop when they received this." He replied as he handed the letter.

"You won't be here to see that!" Winston Hardheah shouted as he ran to stab him.

"Ossenia! 4th Form! Bone Golem!" A man with brown hair and Orange eyes shouted.

Winston stabbed the bone golem and it grabbed him.

"Good afternoon, Mr. President. Sorry I am late. Fossil from the Sun Empire. I am here to aid you in your war effort. Our troops are at position." Fossil introduced himself.

"You came! Thank heavens! Jambert! Don't give them the letter. Burn it. We will fight until the end!" Baldred cried in happiness.

"Yes, Mr. President." Jambert did as Baldred ordered.

"Uhm. Mr. President, where will I put him? I need my Ossenia to fight." Fossil asked him.

"I see I see. Please tie him to the pillar and please lead us to victory, Mr. Fossil." Baldred requested.

"Your wish is my command, Mr. President." Fossil replied as he tied Winston and went to the battle.

"Thank you, Mr. Fossil." Baldred thanked him happily.

"Farewell, Mr. President. See ya!" Fossil replied casually.

The union troops marched through the vast plains and to the city walls. Suddenly the clouds started to became dark.

"Calcite Storm!" An attack came out of nowhere.

They were stormed by rocks. When the storm stopped, Fossil appeared and he shouted. A massive count of troops appeared from the sides of the plain. Surprising the enemy infantry. Soil was shocked and angered by what she saw.

"That Fossil again! Thousand Crustal Charge!" She shouted as she thrusted her scythe on the ground then it shook wildly and the attack killed a large part of Fossil's regiment.

"Ossenia, 6th Form! Rib Cage!" Fossil shouted as his regiment was protected against Soil's attack.

"Fire the mangonels!" Ymma shouted as the mangonels hurled burning stones.

"This won't last long! Everyone! Charge!" Fossil shouted as he turned Ossenia in to a golem.

"6th Moon Regiment! 1st Southern Cardence! Charge!" Soil shouted as the armies charged at Fossil's regiment.

The armies fought in a bloodbath. Soil charged directly at Fossil.

"Ossenia, 8th Form! Calcite Sword!" Fossil shouted as he saw her charging to him.

"Hi-yaaaaaaa!" Soil shouted as she jumped and charged at him.

"It's been a long time, princess." He teased her as they fought.

"I am not a princess! I am Countess Terra of Terra County." She replied irritatingly as she continued to fight Fossil.

"Oh. Sorry. My bad, Countess." Fossil teased her even more.

"You won't escape this time!" Soil yelled at him.

"Ha! Let's see. Hiya! We always defeat you in every battle we fought." Fossil teased her more which angered her.

"You always won because your reckless emperor is around. But he isn't here now. It is your time to lose!" She tried to tease him.

"Maybe. But I am not cocky like your queen who want to barge in every event." He fought back.

"How dare you, disrespect our queen?!" Soil shouted as she tried to swing her scythe with all her might.

"Ossenia, 7th Form! Calcium Musket!" Fossil shouted as he jumped in the air.

"You fool!" Soil shouted as she pounded the ground and it made a stair to Fossil. She charged at him

"Not even close. Ossenia, Carpet Form!" Fossil shouted, Ossenia transformed and he darted away.

"How dare you! We are not finish yet!" Soil shouted as she stomped on her soil stairs.

"Blue haired officer! Fire at will!" Fossil shouted as he reached the city walls.

"Sir yes sir! Everyone! Fire at will!" Wilgils shouted as their forces shoot arrows on the battlefield.

Meanwhile, Ymma saw what is happening. She was discontented of the tides of war.

"Bison Stampede!" Ymma shouted as she swung her sword and the ground started to tremble.

"Blue guy! Sound the retreat!" Fossil shouted as soon as he saw a herd of angry bison came out of the sides of battlefield.

The army rushed to the city walls as Moon's army.

"Why aren't they sounding the retreat! Clay Wall!" Soil shouted as she pounded the ground and a wall appeared preventing the bison to ravage the battlefield then they vanished in to thin air.

That doesn't sit well with Ymma and she rushed to the battlefield.

"What are you doing?!" Ymma shouted at her.

"You will kill our troops!" Soil yelled back.

"I am the one in charge here! Do as I say!" She shouted again.

"Don't yell at me! I am not under your command! Sound the retreat!" Soil yelled again as she aimed her scythe at Ymma.

The soldier sounded the retreat and their troops retreated. It surprised the troops of both the Empire and the Republic.

"They are retreating!" Wilgils shouted in joy.

"It is nice working with you blue haired officer." Fossil replied.

"The pleasure is mine, Master." Wilgils responded and kneeled.

"Hey. Officer don't kneel on me. We are equal here. Don't call me master. Just call me Fossil." He told him as he aided him to stand up.

"Thank you. Without you and your regiment we would have suffered defeat." Wilgils replied.

"Let's report this to your President. He will surely be happy of the news." Fossil told him and he darted away with Ossenia.

He reached the Presidential Palace and gave the President the good news. He was overjoyed and thanked him many times. They were given an award for helping the Republic the next day. They started marching their way back home.

"Farewell, Mr. President. Till next time." Fossil bid his goodbye.

"Goodbye, Mister Fossil." Baldred replied.
