With the flick of a button, a small set of spotlights finally came on. Hannah was sat close to the boys with her tablet as if to guard a huge secret. For a lockdown protocol to be initiated, the situation had to be beyond dire. This case was possibly no different.
Neo leaned forward and lowered his voice, "Why all the secrecy?"
Hannah's blue eyes shone with a hint of seriousness. The next words she uttered weighed heavily on them all.
"My agency has been infiltrated."
The boys looked at her in shock. How could her agency, one of the best in the country, be infiltrated so expertly? And in such a short space of time?
"How can that be possible? A-a-nd what does that have to do with our racing team....?", quizzed Lee.
Hannah opened her tablet and showed them some pages.
"I took a sample of Tom's hair. My team completed the analysis this morning and look what they found."
There was a picture of two DNA sequences along with some annotations. Neither of the brothers knew what it meant.
Neo looked at the page for a second then asked, "Umm... What are we looking at here?".
Hannah took the time to explain each section.
"This one to the right is my DNA. Taken after I used my enhancement serum. Look at Tom's DNA."
They all took a closer look at the graphs. The more they stared, the more horrifying the truth became.
"Wait... The DNA sequences are exactly the same!", Lee finally noticed. "How is that possible?!"
Neo deduced the issue within seconds. "They both have the serum. But how? I'm sure you never gave it to him?"
"That's the thing. That formula is only known by 10 people. Me, my secretary Maria, and the biology team. Maria is an expert in mutant physiology but chemistry isn't her forte. So it's not her."
Lee wondered, "How can you be sure? What.. What if they poisoned you or something!"
Hannah waved off his concern, "Before I took the serum, Maria pumped me with an antidote. So if there was foul play, the antidote killed it immediately. The ones we should look at are the folks on the biology team.".
Neo's brain was working over time as he considered the possibilities. He then proposed an interesting point.
"Your bio team. They work here everyday?"
Hannah look intrigued, "Yeah, why?".
Neo took the tablet and turned to the bio team dossier.
"Which of these hasn't come to work today? We caused quite the stir last night, so they must be making some rash movements."
Hannah looked carefully at the logs then noticed one woman hadn't checked into work.
"There. This one. She hasn't clocked in today. Good point Neo."
Lee then jumped up, "You know something else? If they're getting sloppy, we have to be more careful. Right now, they don't know what we know. So if we play this right, we can give them the shock of their lives."
Hannah smirked with glee. "Perfect. Skating carefully will give us enough time to set the playing table. See who they really are."
The trio agreed on their new found plan. But something was missing. Lee looked at them and realised something.
"If we're gonna outwit them, we're gonna need more people."
