(Chapter 14) Sent Home

"It only responds to our orders, there is no need for something faulty." A man's cold voice reported.

"Good, this one seems quite robust, she improved the most within the 6 years of this batch." A woman's voice spoke, her voice was raspy.

Looking down into a white room through one-sided glass, a lonesome girl was sitting at a table, writing on a piece of paper.

"Test her further, see how far she can go." The man's voice was steady, as the young girl sitting was a test subject, not a person...

The girl sitting down was tested in all of the main languages in the world. English, French, Italian, German, Chinese, and more. Even distinct dialects she was tested on.

After a few months. The man and woman took the girl into their house. Taught her etiquette, dancing, singing, painting. After being able to master these skills, she was then put under some strenuous exercises for a girl. Combat exercises against mercenaries...

The 10-11-year-old girl slowly grew into an 18-year woman. She had finished schooling at her parent's demand. She finished averagely and picked up some grades. Meanwhile, also protecting her father's business from the dark, as an assassin...

.......

"Hey! Hey! Are you awake Astrid?" Francesca looked over a sleepy Astrid with a worried face.

Astrid opened her eyes and took a glance around. "I'm awake. I fainted." Astrid didn't ask, she knew. This room was the medical room for the school.

Francesca nodded. "Yeah, you were also speaking out loud earlier, you surprised the nurse when you suddenly spoke to her." Francesca chuckled, it seemed she learned something funny about her new friend.

Astrid just shook her head. "Really? I had been reading some books recently, it probably came from there."

Francesca nodded. Agreeing with Astrid, some of the words she spoke she couldn't understand. But she did understand that whatever she mumbled, didn't seem real.

"You're awake, that's good." The nurse walked in alongside one of the doctors that examined the students.

Astrid moved her gaze and Francesca moved away. "You just fainted from overexertion, your body is extremely weak. Since you were ill for a long time that is to be expected, but still. I must recommend taking a rest for a day just in case." The nurse checked Astrid's face and saw she was alright.

Astrid nodded. She knew that her father wouldn't let her go to school tomorrow anyway...

"Alright, your father is coming now. We called him and he seemed quite adamant about sending you home. Just be careful next time." The nurse gave a smile to Astrid, she was quite familiar with her from last year, she spent quite a lot of time in the medical rooms within the week she was in classes.

Astrid nodded. The nurse and doctor left knowing that she would want some space. After they left, in came a worried Winoa.

"Ah, I'm sorry Astrid, I should have kept a better eye on you." Winoa was quite guilty, she had promised not only Astrid, but also Mr. Tuhs that she would make sure Astrid would be okay for the physical examinations. But here she fainted...

Astrid just shook her head. As she closed her eyes, she was quite tired from the cross country and she would need some energy to deal with her father later.

As expected, Mr. Tuhs immediately taught Astrid a lesson in not overexerting herself. He spoke non-stop as he drove her home.

"If you couldn't do it then why force yourself? What if something happened and there were no doctors around?" Mr. Tuhs was really mad at his daughter, she promised him she would be fine. And then he got a call saying his daughter had fainted! How could he be calm?

Astrid felt something stir inside her hearing her father's words. 'Is this what a family is like?' She inwardly wondered, the words her father was saying were clearly lecturing her, but she felt warm inside listening to him.

Astrid gave a small smile, "Dad, I'm sorry for breaking my promise, I just want to get better quicker." She spoke quietly.

Mr. Tuhs then quietened down hearing his daughter's words. He also smiled seeing his daughter's smile. Despite becoming healthier, she hadn't shown a smile for a while. He was finally calmed.

When they reached home it was almost lunch. After getting an earful from her mother, and being suffocated. Astrid ate lunch with her parents, until her father was being forced to go back to work.

"How useless of a boss will you look like right now? Leaving work before lunch!? Won't you lose trust with your employees?" Mrs. Tuhs was trying to send Mr. Tuhs back to work.

Mr. Tuhs embarrassedly chuckled, how would he say that he hadn't gone to work this morning and instead tried to pave the way for his daughter in school with a meeting with the Guilliano family...

Astrid noticed her fathers chuckled and thought of something. "Dad, would it be okay for me to follow you to work?"

Mr. Tuhs looked at his daughter incredulously, looking at her extremely innocent expression and clear eyes. He almost faltered immediately.

Mrs. Tuhs then smiled. "That's a good idea. Howard, sending Astrid with you wouldn't cause any problems right?" Mrs. Tuhs knew her husband for many years, so sending Astrid would be for spying on his to make sure he did go to work...

Mr. Tuhs though, was completely fooled. "That's fine, your dad's office can fit another person inside!" He was completely fooled by the mother-daughter pair.

.......

Mr. Tuhs drove into the city and through the city center. Astrid hadn't seen much of the outside world in this life, so she was looking around to remember the layouts of the streets.

Mr. Tuhs then drove up to a set of buildings on a busy commercial street. He then drove into the backside and gave a guard his identity card.

The security guard was more than obliged to let the big boss in through the back door. He didn't think anything of Astrid in the back. Since the car had reflecting windows to not allow people to see inside unless they put their head against the glass.

Mr. Tuhs parked in his designated spot. After making a small phone call, the cameras were also shut off in the area. "Come, follow your dad to his office." He was in a great mood. He was proud to show off his might in front of his daughter...

Astrid obliged, she was surprised at her father's meticulous thoughts of even shutting down cameras in the area. Clearly he didn't want other people to know she existed.

After getting into the elevator, Astrid started to feel a little wobbly. Seeing his daughter's discomfort, Mr. Tuhs then held her hand.

Astrid was fine with elevators in her previous life. Clearly this body couldn't deal with them very well...

The elevator led straight into a secret room inside the CEO's office. Upon opening a secret door. Astrid was then forced to take a seat to relax.

Astrid looked around and was inwardly quite pleased, her father's taste was quite good. It was slightly rustic while also being modern, it was also spotless. Not a single speck of dust anywhere.

Astrid then looked on the table and randomly picked up some of the newspapers and magazines to read, seeing his daughter be occupied, Mr. Tuhs started to either type on his keyboard, or sign some papers.

Astrid was never a talkative person, back in school she could have gone the entire time in school without talking to someone if she wasn't asked questions by the teacher. The silence made her comfortable.
