(Chapter 36) Sudden Birth

"AAAH!" A sudden scream immediately stopped Astrid in her tracks, she recognized the voice to be her mother's. She immediately turned off her computer and rushed to the source of the noise.

She entered the living room and saw her mother surrounded by the nurse that was assigned to her by her father. "Deep breaths, the ambulance is on its way." The nurse did the medical procedures and calmed Mrs. Tuhs down.

Astrid immediately took out her phone and called her father, upon hearing his wife was giving birth, he immediately canceled the meeting. And rushed to the hospital she was going to be sent to.

Andrea rushed around the house and called for the maids to help Mrs. Tuhs into the hallway, where a seat for her had been prepared months ago to allow her to easily be transported to an ambulance in case Mr. Tuhs wasn't home when the baby was to be born.

Astrid was left with nothing to do, as she watched as her mother was clearly in pain, but kept listening to the nurse.

For the first time ever, she felt so powerless. She knew nothing about the human body, so she just watched the nurse with arctic eyes.

The nurse didn't notice she was being watched with such intensity, she was genuinely focused on getting Mrs. Tuhs in a stable condition, since she was treated extremely well since being sent to this house.

But Andrea clearly saw that, she shivered. As a premonition came into her mind. 'If anything happened to the Madam, you wouldn't need to worry about the Master, but the Young Miss instead!' She could feel the horrendous mood of Astrid from several rooms away.

The ambulance arrived after half an hour. Astrid was already frowning by this point. Wondering why a private hospital would take so long...

Her thinking was completely impeded, not remembering the distance from the hospital, nor the traffic was around.

Astrid also blissfully ignored the growing pain in her stomach, as her focus was entirely taken up by this point.

The doctors sent were all masters in their field, they had long been in contact with the Tuhs family, so upon seeing Astrid staring at them with such cold and dangerous eyes, they were stunned.

Then they remembered their job for the day, they took Astrid's improved condition out of their minds, as they helped out Mrs. Tuhs.

Astrid watched as her mother was hooked up to machinery and given assistance, her mood was worse than ever. As she silently took a seat on the ambulance.

The doctors didn't dare say anything, as both Astrid and Andrea sat on board.

As Mrs. Tuhs took continuous deep breaths, she looked around the ambulance with a waining conscience, seeing her daughter. She gave her best to smile at her.

Seeing her mother smile in pain, Astrid went over and held her hand. Taking her hand was the best way for her mother to relax right now was what she told herself. Ignoring her own waining thoughts.

.......

"Bring the patient into the maternity room, prepare for birth." The doctors rushed over Mrs. Tuhs, as Mr. Tuhs stood up seeing his wife and daughter come in.

"Siccily, believe. We were blessed with Astrid already. I believe in you." Mr. Tuhs whispered some words into his wife's ear, doing it in a way that Astrid didn't hear.

Seeing her father rush alongside her mother into the maternity ward Astrid slowed down, as she walked to the waiting area for now.

.......

17 hours had passed incredibly slowly for Astrid. She hadn't moved ever since she sat down in the waiting room. As Winoa also rushed over to sit beside her mother who was also waiting.

Mr. Tuhs had gone in and out of the room a few times, mainly to tell the group that Mrs. Tuhs was doing well. And also to go have a mental break. Not only was it physically and mentally taxing for the mother giving birth, but also mentally taxing for the father who would be supporting her.

Winoa woke up to a cold surrounding, she shivered. Despite it being the middle of summer right now, sitting next to Astrid was terribly cold for her...

Astrid could barely keep her cool, as she saw a nurse rush into her mother's room with panic on her face. And that was 3 hours ago! She was ready to completely tear down the hospital.

She had never liked hospitals, especially in her previous life, she would only have a distinct fear of them since she knew the type of people her parents were back then. They could leave her there and no one would ask any questions.

But now she had stayed in a hospital throughout the night, her gaze never left her mother's room. As she kept a cool facade on the outside, but inwardly was crumbling.

After another hour, the room suddenly turned quiet. As Mrs. Tuhs muffled screams then came through the door.

Astrid's expression darkened considerably, she was thinking of how to punish this bastard coming out of her mother's stomach for causing her so much pain already.

But then a sudden dosage of silence came again. And then so did the cries of a newborn baby.

Andrea immediately felt tears coming down her face, she quickly wiped them away. She was so glad for Mrs. Tuhs...

Winoa relaxed hearing the cries, thinking that everything would now be fine. But Astrid didn't relent. She zoned out the baby's cries.

After another hour the doctor came out and took off his mask. "Both the mother and child are safe. You may enter now." He spoke with a slight chill. The old director of obstetricians was terrified, the sight of Astrid's gaze reminded him of many political leaders of countries.

Astrid ignored everything and immediately stood up to go into the maternity room. Andrea and Winoa sat back, now feeling more relaxed, and knowing Astrid was desperate to go inside.

Astrid first saw the bloodied cloth and immediately became steely, she then saw her mother lying on the bed with her father beside her.

"Mum." Astrid spoke softly, as she felt liberated.

Mrs. Tuhs smiled. "Baby, you now have a younger sister." She spoke with clear tiredness in her voice, as she slowly delved into unconsciousness.

Mr. Tuhs slowly stood up and sighed with relief. "Come, let's say hello shall we?" He spoke softly, as a nurse then took care of Mrs. Tuhs as she slept.

Astrid nodded, as she then was shown her new younger sister.

She didn't cry as she was cleaned up by the nurse, she stayed quiet and bubbled away. Astrid's first thought seeing her new sister was that she was incredibly ugly.

Mr. Tuhs smiled as he then was given the baby after she was cleaned up. The way he held her was a bit rusty, but he shook off that rust quickly.

"Look, she is your sister Astrid." Mr. Tuhs showed off the baby to Astrid.

Astrid looked on with awe, interest clearly showing in her eyes, as her former thoughts about the baby cleared immediately.

"Would you want to hold her?" Mr. Tuhs asked gently, as he practically forced Astrid to hold her.

Astrid had some reluctance, but Mr. Tuhs practically forced the baby into her arms. And he taught her the best way to hold the baby.

Astrid felt the baby was quite heavy, as she watched her bubble away and giggle.

Immediately Astrid felt her heart warm up. As she slowly lost all sense of chill from her body.

Mr. Tuhs smiled in relief, he didn't want Astrid to be jealous or anything. So seeing her look so peaceful he was glad.

Something that was always on his mind was that Astrid grew up alone, despite having Winoa by her side, both he and his wife did want Astrid to have more company growing up. But with her being so ill, they didn't even have that thought after a while. Now he was confident that Astrid can take care of her new sister, and wasn't alone anymore...
