(Chapter 74) Becoming Wary

Romane was feeling the sweat form on his forehead as he put away his phone and left his date a message of apology. He was the typical playboy, so leaving a date hanging was something that the restaurant knew how to deal with.

He took only 10 minutes to drive through a road that would normally take him 20. He then rushed past the reception straight to the elevator.

He obviously got some weird looks. But seeing the man in a high-class suit and with such a frantic look. The receptionists could only guess that there was an issue he was needed for urgently.

He ignored the looks of employees and went straight to the boss's room. First was the room full of secretaries, he quickly glanced past them all, seeing they were all busy, he then took the long walk to his boss's door.

"Come in." After knocking he heard that same cold voice he heard on the phone. He sighed and prayed for his life. Quickly opening the door to accept his punishment.

He then froze. He immediately noticed the handsome man sitting by the side table leaning back on his chair. He then looked to the source of the icy temperature in the room.

"18 minutes 27 seconds. Was there something you were doing that was more important than your job?" An Asura was sitting at the desk. As Lewis eyes Romane's outfit with steel in his eyes.

Romane awkwardly cleared his throat. "No boss." If he said he was on a date with one of the most prominent actresses in the country. Would he be burned alive?

"Good. Did you get my request?" Lewis now glanced over to Astrid. Who seemed to be staring at Romane with a smile.

Romane then had a moment of shock on his face. "Request? When?" He asked with a generally confused tone.

Seeing Astrid stop tapping the table. Lewis then looked over to her direction fully. "I guess you need to do some spring cleaning Lewis." Astrid teased. Clearly there was an issue that she and Lewis had just discovered.

Lewis hummed as his gaze then went back to Romane. "Tell me everything later, for now, prepare my the car to go to the banquet hosted by the President's son." Lewis ordered Romane as he gave him a steely look.

Romane nodded. Clearly his boss was not in a good mood. And the man who was sitting at the table... Was someone he knew.

Romane left to prepare, while Astrid unbuttoned the top button of her shirt and looked at Lewis. "He is quite reliable. But also has an exposible weakness. I would trust him too." Astrid commented, she was a little surprised to see the same man who she had seen before while she was in England. But it seemed Romane didn't really recognize her...

Lewis hummed in acknowledgment. While Romane was arguably slightly more intelligent and talented than Viviano. He didn't manage to beat Viviano on one point. He was a playboy, hence he had an exploitable weakness. Something someone of Lewis's position couldn't allow to be too close with. But he knew how to use Romane's strengths and weaknesses well...

Lewis had long been suspecting that someone besides him had been a spy. But he instead of taking drastic movements to find the spy, he instead took a slower approach.

He first located where the spy was operating from, which information did they know? It took him a while to realize that the spy was heavily embedded within his higher staff within the business. But he still couldn't pinpoint anything.

"I won't interfere with your issues. But do remember, you probably have a spy that have been feeding someone information about you..." Astrid started to warn Lewis. Before seeing his smiling face.

"You are worried about me?" Lewis teased, did he expect Astrid to clearly explain he had a spy? Not really. But he now understood that his woman had intelligence far above his...

Astrid looked away calmly. "It would be no good if your pillar in France falls, I need it." Astrid explained as she then looked back down to her tea.

"Sure, but did you think I wouldn't know about a spy being close to me?" Lewis continued to keep his gaze on Astrid. Reading every single expression on the face that wasn't hers.

Astrid picked up the cup and look into the tea. "I guess not. So you have been feeding that spy false information? And now you called this office directly and found out that your best secratary here had no idea you were coming, even an idiot could guess who the spy is." Astrid then started to pour out the tea on to the table.

Lewis didn't mind what she was doing. The tea was horrendous anyway. And she knew she wasn't in a great mood with that fact. "Well, as you said, even an idiot could guess." Lewis had known who the spy was for a while. He even gave him a high position in the company on purpose. He was waiting for the perfect time to oust him and the people behind him.

Then Lewis's phone started to ring. He answered the call and listened for a few seconds.

"Alright, make sure the media is controlled." He replied as he then stood up.

"The banquet starts in an hour. We should arrive early no?" Lewis asked with a smile. As Astrid noticed she now had no choice but to follow his plan.

She silently nodded. Before taking one last look at the tea Lewis had drunk. Before going into the elevator...

.......

Romane's hands were sweating, he was in the passenger seat of the car and was trying to keep his eyes away from the rearview mirror.

'That man. What is he doing here?' Romane didn't get a clear look before, but now when he was closer to Astrid. He remembered a very familiar face he had met in England one time...

It one of the few times he was given a holiday. So he spent his time in England, he had heard great tales of the English women being beautiful and elegant. So chasing such expectations. He set his sights into some of the highest-class establishments in the country.

One night, he was in a banquet hosted by a banker in the country. There were plenty of unmarried women for him to prey upon there...

Later that night, while he was on a date with one of the women from the banquet, he spotted one of the guests from the banquet. A handsome-looking man who seemed to be six-foot plus. With rich brown hair and eyes. He seemed extremely rich and had a good figure.

But he wasn't too surprised to see such an occurrence, so he put it to the side of his head. But his date had her eyes caught by that very man. And looked at the woman now being led into a private room with a tinge of jealousy.

Romane then stopped the date and went back to his hotel. By bother when he knew his date wasn't interested in him anymore?

As he fell asleep in his room, he had heard a female scream that woke him up.

When he woke up though, he heard nothing else afterward. Thinking it was just his imagination, he calmly decided to go to the toilet.

But noticing the time was now 5am. He decided to stay up and have breakfast. Fast-forward a few hours. He caught a glimpse of the same man from the night before getting into a black car.

The very same day. He heard the news that the woman who was originally his date had been found dead. Police suspected mutilation and humiliation. Her body was completely covered in blood. And she seemed to be fighting back...

Romane tried his best to find out information on the man in his own time, but he couldn't find anything. All records of him vanished, while he could also never find the other woman that went to his room that night...

So when he caught a glimpse of the very same face he remembered from a couple of years ago. He honestly was surprised. He didn't know that he and his boss knew each other. And were close at that. But he was still wary of the man. And now was looking at him with adrenaline pumping in his veins.

Astrid noticed the extra attention Romane was giving her and was unbothered, she could guess that the man remembered her from a while ago. And honestly couldn't care. If he tried anything, he wouldn't be able to speak before he could open his mouth...

While Lewis was in a sour mood. Seeing Romane intently stare at Astrid gave him ice in his veins. As he gave Romane a death stare, he then decided to send him back to training for a few weeks for staring at his woman for too long...
