CLASS JERK DEFENDS NEW GIRL

A loud murmur rose in the class the moment Nancy sat down.

They just couldn't believe their eyes.

The official class jerk had allowed the new girl sit beside him. He even flashed a smile.

It was just too much!

The surprise that registered on their faces was as clear as day.

Jeremy himself was shocked at his own actions, he couldn't believe himself.

It was as though his mouth had moved on its own, influenced by an unforseen force and invited her to come sit with him.

What was he thinking!

She was messing up his head, she could ruin him!

Yet here he was, gladly offering her a seat right beside him.

"Jeremy can I talk to you?" Lisa asked, tapping him suddenly.

Her touch woke him from his musings.

Jeremy gave her a a glare that could have drilled holes into her head.

"what?" he asked in annoyance.

"can we go somewhere private? I want to have a private conversation" Lisa replied.

Jeremy instantly knew she was up to no good.

"I'm not interested in knowing what you want to say, neither am I going anywhere with you.

I do not feel like talking to anyone right now so for the umpteenth time Lisa, can you not talk to me" he said through gritted teeth.

The moment he finished the statement, he bent his head on the desk again and resumed his reading.

He was utterly conscious of Nancy sitting beside him.

He wanted to start a conversation with her but he found himself at a loss for words.

He wanted a means of distraction, well his textbook provided an excellent excuse.

Suddenly, he felt a soft tap on his shoulders.

A tap that sent shivers through his spine.

He turned to Nancy and his gaze met hers.

Oh how he wished he could get lost in those eyes as long as....

"thank you for letting me sit with you"

"you're welcome" replied Jeremy, smiling sheepishly.

Lisa stood in front of Jeremy, completely perplexed and angry.

So the jerk did know how to flash his teeth and he was displaying them to this hawker! This thing that dropped from nowhere and she was completely being ignored.

It drove her mad.

"Jeremy! Jeremy!" she called, trying to gain his attention but Jeremy had no interest in sparing her a simple glance.

She'd over stayed her welcome.

He thought he was going to enjoy some peace and quiet the moment she walked back to her seat.

Who knew she'd appear in his presence the next second to continue being a pest.

Just then, a teacher walked into the classroom and the utterly ignored Lisa walked back to her seat in anger.

Jeremy didn't bother to watch her retreat instead he reached into his bag and produced an earpiece to plug his ears.

He wasn't interested in taking any lessons.

The moment he plugged the damn thing in, he felt it being pulled out.

He turned his head sharply.

Who would dare!

Confusion instantly set in the moment he found Nancy staring at him.

"did you just pull out my earpiece?" he asked incredulously.

When he turned, he'd been ready to unleash a piece of his mind on the individual who'd even tried to touch his stuff... and to think of even pulling it out of his ears!

"it's wrong to have your ears plugged in the classroom during classes" Nancy replied flatly.

By this time, other students already were stealing glances at them.

Oh how they loved free entertainment.

They wanted to watch a show.

Jeremy seriously prayed the teacher wouldn't realize the little commotion and turn to him.

He wasn't ready for an explanation and he knew this ignorant new chick sitting by his side wouldn't hesitate to rat him out.

"listen girl" Jeremy began, curling his lips in utter annoyance.

"because I let you sit here with me, does in no way give you the right to touch my stuff or interfere in my business.

Mind your side of the bench and I'll mind mine" he finished.

They all start like this... women..they start with the little things then they graduate to the big stuff... that's how men end up having pieces of their clothing going missing in their houses and items being taken away.

The moment they sense a hint of likeness in a man, they start taking and he Jeremy was in no mood for such bullshit.

He had to start being harsh and mean to her from the beginning.

Else she would take him for a joke thought Jeremy as he stared at her.

He tried to get angry but his stupid emotions would not co-operate so he settled for putting on his best poker face.

"oh sorry your highness, I just attempted to correct you and do the right thing.... obviously that was a mistake. Suit yourself then... you're right. It really was none of my business" she fired and turned to face the board, a deep frown set in her face.

"Jeremiah Brent" called the teacher from the front of the class.

"is there any special event occuring in that seat I should be invited to?"

"No ma'am" Jeremy replied with gritted teeth.

The teacher eyed him for some minutes then she turned her attention back to the board.

Jeremy turned to glare at Nancy.

He wanted to say something but swallowed his words.

For the reminder of the class, he never uttered a word to her and neither did she speak to him.

The school bell announced recess and the teacher left the classroom.

Jeremy spared Nancy a glance.

She still had that frown on her face and completely ignored his presence.

He grabbed his bag and walked out of the class but something stirred in his heart.

Whoa! Jeremy! is that guilt? his brain questioned.

"shut up!" he screamed mentally.

He didn't have the faintest inkling of what he was doing when he found himself waiting outside for her to come out of the classroom.

"Jeremy" Nancy and Lisa called out to him at the same time.

Jeremy raised his head from his phone, the two girls exchanged glances but Lisa's was more of a glare.

Lisa apparently didn't find it funny.

"Listen new girl" she started, her lips curling up in disgust.

"Just because you share the same seat, don't give you the right to start acting like he belongs to you..." she continued, unleashing verbal garbage.

Jeremy expected Nancy to dish out something of her own but to his surprise, she was utterly quiet and just stared at Lisa.

After Lisa was done unloading, Nancy just shrugged her shoulders and walked out on them.

Jeremy turned to Lisa.

"what did you mean by that nonsense?" he asked, gesturing at Nancy's retreating figure with his thumb.

"she doesn't suit you Jeremy...why did you even accept to let her sit with you" Lisa's lips curled in disgust.

Jeremy felt like strangling her for a reason he didn't know and couldn't understand.

"you bloody cunts wouldn't let her sit with you. The girl couldn't just stand could she?" Jeremy snorted in response.

"tell me, why does it seem like everyone hates her?" Jeremy added, this time out of curiosity.

He couldn't get why the girl was strongly disliked.

"isn't it obvious?" Lisa said, seeing it as an opportunity to badmouth Nancy and instantly turn him against her.

"she's too poor and wretched. She isn't fit to be in this school. Who knows how she got that scholarship... Probably fucked someone to get it...or lots of people" she scoffed.

"so that's it?"

"that's what?"

"the only reason you idiots despise her. Just because she's poor?" Jeremy asked incredulously.

These people sure we're stupid he thought.

"just because she's poor like you said, doesn't give you the right to rub it in her face every two seconds" Jeremy fired at her.

Lisa couldn't believe her ears.

"hold it! you're standing by her! you're defending her! " Lisa accused, eyeing him suspiciously.

"Don't tell me you're getting attracted to...." she continued but was interrupted by Jeremy.

"shut up!" he said suddenly.

"shut that dirty mouth of yours else I'll do you the favor of carrying out the act for you"

"Oh interesting... you're even getting angry....may wonders never cease" Lisa mocked.

Jeremy just shook his head and walked out on her.

He'd wasted enough of his precious time already.

Lisa stared at his retreating figure and couldn't believe what just happened apparently, Jeremy was beginning to fall for the hawker!

She watched the way he interacted with the new girl.

It was clearly different from the way he spoke to others.

Just now, he even defended her.

Nope, she'd never let that happen....not on her watch.

Despite his claims of hating Nigerians, his actions couldn't hide it.

Actions speak louder than words!

She stormed off in search of that Nancy.

She had to give the girl a piece of her mind.
