A turn for the worse

Laila's mind was still in the past as she thought about how her married life had started. Although the marriage was forced on them by her husband's family, who didn't want to stain their reputation, it was the biggest blessing she could have asked for back then. Because apparently it took that step of formalizing their relationship for her husband Jake to lose his wild hairs and for the two of them to settle down. It seemed that now that breaking up wasn't an option, or at least didn't feel like one with a child on the way, they had both decided to turn over a new leaf. And in the beginning everything was great. Really great. Indeed that beginning was nothing short of a fairy tale.

From the very first day of marriage and their lives together, things were better than ever. She and her husband were communicating properly and he was going above and beyond to help her out with the pregnancy. Despite his long days, Jake would surprise her with romantic gestures at least once a week and he would attend all her pregnancy classes. This in turn caused her to want to do better as well and be a good wife for him. She worked hard to adjust to his way of life and did her best to please her mother-in-law, who didn't like her very much back then. She also tried to get along with his friends, most of whom she herself didn't like very much during those days. In order to make her marriage work, Laila ignored all the words her friends were saying about how Jake wasn't right for her and slowly she started seeing them less as her time was spent on her husband and her life at home.

But that rose coloured life didn't last forever... Unlike the fairy tales in books, fairy tales in real life don't end after two people get married. That is when the real story begins. Though her fairy tale started out wonderful, it sadly took a turn for the worse when she lost the baby after she and her Jake got into a car accident on the way back from one of his business events. A drunk driver hit their car from the side, her side, making their unborn child die almost instantly. With the driver dying in the accident as well, she was left with no one to be angry with and thus nothing to distract her from her loss causing her sadness to swallow her whole.

That period in time was a very dark chapter in their lives and one filled with a lot of tears. More than she ever thought she could shed. Jake too couldn't keep his eyes dry when he heard the news but he managed to stay strong for her sake. Despite his own sadness, Jake did whatever he could to comfort her. Even her mother-in-law had let go of her dislike for Laila and turned over a new page after hearing the news. While using her usual harsh words, she would check in on her every day and at the beginning she would cook for her personally in order for her to regain her strength. With Jake's help and the support of both of their families, Laila was able to move on after a few months of grieving. Because of what they had gone through, their marriage had become stronger than ever. After letting go of her pain, life was finally starting to look good again. Seeing Laila smiling again after such a long period of sadness, they finally managed to put what had happened in the past. Or at least as much as one can put losing a child in the past. This allowed them to focus on what they still had instead of on what they had lost.

With life looking up again, Jake was doing great at the office and she embraced the life as a socialite while starting her own fashion line. He had started working at his father's company immediately after they got married, leaving the idea of his own gaming business behind because that was too unstable of a career for someone with a child on the way. Since he turned out to be a natural at the family business, he continued working there even after they had lost the baby. Leaving his dream as just that. He managed to grow through the ranks quickly, which was partly because of his father pulling the strings but mostly because of his own skills. From there on, their lives and their relationship kept getting better. They moved into their current home and they were deeply in love. Even discussing the possibility of trying to have another baby. At that time, it felt like life couldn't get any better. But when the office began demanding more and more of Jake's time and he even took over the position as CEO from his father, things took another turn again.
