A blind fool

Soon Noah had finished her shower and had left for the office, while Gretchen walked in with a tray carrying all sorts of food to allow her to replenish her energy. It seemed that Noah had instructed them to prepare a hearty breakfast as everything on the plates was filled with colour, protein and vitamins in the form of many different fruits and vegetables. After she thanked Gretchen and she had left the room, Laila immediately returned her focus to the large tray in front of her. Everywhere she looked, there were eggs, meats, freshly baked buns and it all smelled incredible. Though there was no way for her to finish all of the food in front of her by herself, she was certainly going to try! Not knowing what to try first, she let her eyes feast on what the cooks had prepared while her mouth watered from each dish she was registering.

A full hour after Noah had left and her breakfast had been brought in, Laila was finally ready to get out of bed herself. She had gorged on the food until she couldn't take a single other bite of food and then still took one more after washing up and getting changed as it looked and tasted too good. Then she finally made her way downstairs and once she entered the living room, her eyes landed on the laptop on the coffee table. Immediately she thought, 'Maria!' and she wondered if her friend had seen and replied to her message from yesterday.

With a rapidly beating heart and shaking, clammy hands, she walked to the couch. She grabbed the laptop off the table and sat down as she opened it up and pressed the on/off-button. With a ringing sound in her ears from nervousness, she waited for the locked screen to show and typed in the password she had learned yesterday. She opened up a browser-tab and opened the website to the social media platform. After signing in, she saw a red notification symbol in the top right corner and her started beating even faster. In slow-motion, Laila moved her cursor to the bell icon and clicked on it to reveal what and who the notification was from.

When the list opened up, she let out a disappointed sigh as she saw that it wasn't a message from Maria but a notification for a picture her parents had posted and had tagged her in. She clicked on the picture and saw that her parents had apparently taken a boat trip together and used this platform to keep her posted of their activities on their vacation. She was happy to see that her parents were doing well and looking healthy and subconsciously she began to smile as she took a closer look to earlier pictures her parents had posted. She was in the middle of doing this when another notification came in. Immediately her heart skipped a beat and she held her breath as she slowly moved her mouse to the bell icon once more.

The list opened again and this time she saw Maria's name pop up in her screen. With shaking hands she clicked on her name and the reply she had typed became visible. Laila's eyes went over the written words in a frantic speed. She wanted to find out the answers she sought as soon as possible, without missing anything her friend had to say. As she tried to take it all in, she let her eyes run over each word in the long message Maria had written. In regular Maria style, her reply had been harsh, straightforward and fair. She didn't hold anything back and while some words hurt, Laila wouldn't have it any other way.

From Maria's message she could see that what she had assumed had happened, was pretty close to the truth. Olivia had indeed played them out against each other and after a while distance and lack of contact had done the rest. She called Olivia every ugly word in the book and after letting out some curse words she herself had never even heard of before, she had written "But I am glad that you have finally been able to her for who she truly is. I was afraid you might have been blinded for the light of truth by those bleached teeth of hers but it appears not all hope is lost yet." After calling Laila a few names, calling her a blind fool and what not, she ended her message with, "You know that I can't stay mad at you and if you have seen the error of your ways, I would be willing to welcome you with open arms this very second. So, just come visit me already you stupid fool. I miss you!"

By now Laila's eyes had been filled with tears and plenty of them had already streamed down her face. She let out a laugh of relieve as her bottom lip was quivering from her crying. Laila felt such an immense amount of relieve at knowing that she hadn't lost her friend for good. This message had given her such a great start of her day, that nothing else would be able to top it. Immediately, without wasting a single second, Laila grabbed her phone from the table in front of her and looked for Maria's number before she pressed the call sign in order to let her hear that familiar voice once more!
