Big revelation

With the same smile she had when she said good night to Anthony, Rebecca entered her apartment and closed the door behind her as she leaned against it for a minute to let it all sink in. This morning she had gone out to see if she could help Anthony, which had mostly been an excuse to spend some time with him. Yet now, a few hours later, she had not only gone out on a date with him, but she had also promised to spend the rest of her life with him. How could so many things have happened in one day? She could hardly believe it. She kept having to remind herself that it was all real and not just a dream, by looking down at the diamond ring on her finger. Now that she was home, she could look at it more closely. Because although she didn't need to look long to see that it was gorgeous, it had a lot more details than she had initially realized. As she touched the ring and moved it around on her finger, she pondered, "How expensive this ring must be… I am quite certain that this is the most expensive thing I have ever owned."

While she was asking herself these questions, while trying to answer them herself as well, her brother also finally came home. He put his key into the door and tried to open it, pushing Rebecca forward in the process. While he wondered why he couldn't get the door to open, mumbling his frustrations to the door, Rebecca took a step to the sided and opened the door for him. Slightly surprised her brother said, "Oh hey, sis, it's you. Were you the reason why I couldn't open the door"?

Rebecca nodded and took the bags out of his hands so he could take off his coat. "Why are you standing here instead of sitting inside on the couch?" Rebecca answered nonchalantly as she said, "I was going to head over to the couch, but I got home just now as well." Her brother's eyes grew a bit wide from surprise as he glanced down at his watch and back up at Rebecca. "You only got home now??" As he took his shoes off, he asked, "What were you doing until now then? I am not used to you going anywhere other than the office and on occasion go see Anthony, although he usually comes here."

Rebecca found her opportunity to tell her brother the big news and it had been handed to her on a silver platter. She immediately picked up on his mentioning Anthony and said, "Well about that. I was indeed at Anthony's house, and we spent the day together." But before Rebecca could bring up the matter of her and Anthony getting engaged, she was interrupted before she could get another sentence out. She had just barely said, "As you know-" , when her brother started asking, "I knew it! That explains it all. How was brother Anthony? Was he well? You didn't bother him by sticking around all day, did you?" Rebecca frowned, feeling offended by her brother's words, and said, "How rude. Of course I didn't bother him." Her brother chuckled and made his way into the living room while Rebecca followed him as she said, "In fact, there is something I have to tell you about that big bro of yours."

This seemed to have caught her brother's attention as he turned around with a curious look on his face and a tone of voice to match. "Oh? What about brother Anthony is there to tell?" Rebecca took a seat and gestured for him to sit down as well as she said, "Well…" Rebecca thought for a minute, looking for the right words to say and being unable to find them. In the end she just ran her fingers through her hair before she said, "I am not sure how to tell you so I will just throw it out there and then you can ask questions when you are ready." With a bit of a worried look on his face her brother agreed as he said, "Okay…Have at it…"

"Quite frankly, today Anthony and I suddenly had a day off and we decided to spend it together. During this day we realized that we were both feeling more than just friendship for one another. Somehow one thing led to another, and we decided to get engaged."

Of course this big revelation caused Rebecca's brother to become fully shocked, surprised and flabbergasted. His eyes grew wide and his jaw dropped as he said, "Whaattt!!? You got engaged!?"

He couldn't believe it, but had to when Rebecca nodded and showed him her ring. He grabbed her hand and pulled it closer as if to make sure the ring was real. The he fell back into the couch and stared at the distance as he asked, "But how? You two were nothing more than friends this morning. Although I had a feeling that brother Anthony liked you as more than just a friend, I never got that feeling from you. And now you suddenly tell me that you two are engaged?!"
