The museum

She silently stayed in the car staring at the small box in her hand while he was slowly vanishing from the alley.

"What should I do? This could be my once in a lifetime chance to live my dream, but what about the Cosa Nostra family. I can't simply ignore the fact that they are a threat to me and possibly also to my family. Should I take the risk? Fuck it, if not now when then, this could be the last possibility in my entire life and I'm still on vacation anyway." Several seconds went by while she thought about the risks and possibilities.

She put on the ring and stormed out of the car, running down the alley towards the street where he was standing with the camera over his shoulder.

"I knew you would come, after all, you don't seem the type of women who sits around at home doing nothing."

"Pfff, if that's your impression of me then I have to disappoint you because that is exactly what I did after coming home from work every day." They started to walk in the direction of the museum while talking.

"Isn't that just because of our society? We all get drilled with the behaviour to study, work until we die since the very beginning of our lives. I mean look around you, people are going up and down the street with a dead look on their faces as if they had never lived in the first place."

"Yea that might be true but aren't you the same? I mean, for sure you had a normal nine to five job like everybody else before this happened, at least according to your story. Or was your life always this crazy?"

"Me?! No, no I was living a boring everyday life like everybody else but that still doesn't mean that I need to see life as the majority of the people does."

They stopped walking since they finally stood in front of the museum now. It wasn't a really big building like the one she visited back in New York but more like a small one-story building on a wider property that was decorated with a beautifully maintained garden. Apparently, it was closed for the day and therefore no people were around with exception of the security guard and a newsvendor at the entrance.

"Aand what are we gonna do now?" She pointed inconspicuously towards the guard.

"Just go in normally, we have been invited after all, 'darling'." A slight ironic tone was in his voice.

He already started to go towards the entrance as she grabbed his arm and stopped him.

"Just for your information, I will help you only for a week after that I'm going back to my job."

She put her arm around his and they walked up to the guard.

"Good morning Sir we are here for the interview with Mister Kenneth Jones if I'm not mistaken."

"Yes give me a moment please." He picked up a phone and started talking. "Good morning Sir, someone is here who apparently has an arrangement with you. Yes, yes excuse me for a moment." With one hand on the receiver, he turned towards them.

"Your names please."

"Ah yes sorry, we are Mister and Misses Andrews from the BBC news." He showed the camera that was resting on his shoulders.

"Yes, Mister and Misses Andrews from BBC. Perfect I will let them in. Please enter, Mister Jones is on the last door straight down the corridor."

"Thank you."

Without looking back they both followed the guard's instructions and walked down the large garden.

"What is actually your real name 'Jack'?" She mockingly pronounced his fake name.

"Let's go with only my first name for the time being after all I still need to maintain my mystic personality, otherwise you wouldn't stay with me anymore. It's Brian."

"Hehehe, I must say you don't really look like a Brian more like a Jack."

"Ahahah not bad, not bad but I get it, this is the revenge for what I did to you but can we please concentrate on what lies in front of us now."

It was still early in the morning therefore not many people were going around the hallways of the museum. Big creepy skeletons of long-forgotten animals decorated the walls and rooms but also ancient objects like masks, weapons and various tools. They finally arrived at the last door like the guardian said, on the side of it was written 'director's office - Kenneth Jones' on a small plate. With two quick knocks, Brian announced their arrival.

"Come in it's open!" A bright voice sounded from behind the door.

Brian immediately opened the door and entered the room with her. It wasn't too big and the only conspicuities were his relatively old looking desk that used up most of the rooms space and a showcase displaying various indigenous masks. Kenneth reached his hand out to them and shook each one thoroughly.

"I didn't know you would bring your beautiful wife with you, Mister Andrews"

Amber did her job perfectly and slightly blushed at his compliment.

"Well, I took some days off after this interview, so that we could use our remaining time here to visit the city."

"A good idea, I suggest to make a trip to the Grand Canyon, it really has a view worth watching."

"I'm glad to make your acquaintance as well Mister Kenneth. If you would excuse me I would like to go around the museum and look at all your exhibitions, while my dear husband will make the interview if that's okay for you."

"But of course, of course, I especially suggest that you take a look at the remains of an old Maya tribe that I found in the middle of the South American rain forest."

"I'll make sure to that, so if you would excuse me."

After closing the door behind her, she looked at an emergency plan in the vicinity and immediately spotted the archive room. With quick steps, she walked down the corridor ignoring everything around her. Her heart was beating so fast and loud that she thought everyone could hear it while sweat started running down from all the nervousness. When she finally arrived at the door she noticed that the door was locked with a Pin lock.

"Fuck! And now how do I enter?"

Footsteps were echoing throughout the hallway she just came from with no escape for her other than the way she came from.
