Good 'Quil Hunting

After earning a Zephyr Badge from Violet City, the gang were on their way to get Ashlyn's second badge. Brock was looking at the map book of Johto.

"According to this, the next place to earn a gym badge is called Azalea Town." Brock informed.

"That's where Kurt lives there." Ashlyn remembered, "We can do Prof. Oak's errand and I'll be able to get my second badge."

"Yeah." Misty said.

"I do hope this Kurt guy does find out about this GS ball cause I'm really anxious to know about it." Brock stated.

Suddenly a purpled haired boy came up to them.

"Hey! Have you kids seen any Cyndaquil around here?" The boy asked, in a rude tone.

"Cyndaquil?" Misty asked.

"There's Cyndaquil around this area?" Brock questioned.

"Beats me. I heard there is suppose to be wild one all over the place." The boy stated.

"Really?" Ashlyn asked, already knew.

The boy pointed at Ashlyn, "You better stay away from that Cyndaquil, if you know what's good for you!" He exclaimed out.

"Look kid what makes you the right to say what she can and can't do." Brock said, annoyed. "Whoever finds the Cyndaquil first, has the right to catch it fair and square."

"Says who! Stay out of my way and keep away from the Cyndaquil! Hmph!" The boy walked off.

"What a rude person!" Misty exclaimed.

"Yeah," Brock agreed, "and if he does catch a Cyndaquil, I'll feel sorry for it."

Ashlyn turned to the others. "If you two don't mind, I wish to catch myself a Cyndaquil." she said.

Ashlyn was eager to catch each starter Pokémon of Johto like she did in Kanto. She already has a Chikorita, now she could catch Cyndaquil.

"Go ahead Ashlyn," Brock smiled, "Just make sure you catch it before that purple haired guy does."

Ashlyn nodded, "Promise."

Then she and Tesla left the others to look for a Cyndaquil.

=======================================

Ashlyn and Tesla walked through many grassy areas with trees to search for Cyndaquil, but they couldn't find one yet. Then she felt a pulse that made her stop in her tracks. She turned to where she felt it, looking to the left of her, she saw a blue light ahead. Curious to see what it was, she followed it.

When she arrived where the light was, she saw a big wall of rock, with small caves, where there was a Cyndaquil standing outside a small cave. The Cyndaquil seemed to have noticed her. The two stared at each other, unblinking. Then it did the most unexpected thing: it climbed down the wall and sat at her feet. Ashlyn blinked and knelt down in front of the Cyndaquil and held her hand out to it. Cyndaquil sniffed at it and nudged its head against it. Ashlyn smiled as she petted the fire mouse Pokémon who seemed to be enjoying the attention it was getting from her.

"You're a friendly Cyndaquil, aren't you?" Ashlyn asked.

"Cynda." Cyndaquil cooed.

Ashlyn took out her phone:

[Cyndaquil, the fire mouse Pokémon. It has a timid nature. If it is startled, the flames on its back burn more vigorously.]

"Hey Cyndaquil, would you like to come with me?" Ashlyn asked.

"Cyndaquil!" Cyndaquil squealed and jumped into her arms.

"I'll take that as a yes." Ashlyn smiled as she pet its head.

"Hey!" A male voice called out.

Ashlyn turned to the voice and saw that the purple boy from earlier had turned up. The boy noticed Ashlyn and the wild Cyndaquil.

"That Cyndaquil is mine kid!" he yelled, pointing at the Cyndaquil in her arms.

"No way! I found this Cyndaquil. I can easily tell that you won't treat this one right." Ashlyn denied.

"Oh want a fight eh?" The rude boy sent out a Sandslash from a Pokéball. "Okay I'll challenge you to a Pokémon battle. If I win I keep Cyndaquil, but if I lose you will keep it."

"I can't believe this guy. He made Cyndaquil a prize for a Pokémon battle." Ashlyn muttered.

Tesla growled and nodded, "Rai. (Yeah.)"

"Very well, I accept your challenge." Ashlyn said.

Ashlyn and the trainer got ready to battle. Cyndaquil watched from the side with Tesla beside it; it was nervous about which trainer would win. Since her opponent was a Sandslash, Ashlyn decided to use Eirwen.

"What the heck is that?!" The rude boy exclaimed.

"A Sandslash." Ashlyn responded.

"Humph! A wimpy trainer using a wimpy Pokémon." The rude boy insulted the Alolan Sandslash.

"Don't underestimate us!" Ashlyn said, "Come on Eirwen, let's show this loser what we can do."

Eirwen nodded as he glared at the purple haired boy who insulted him and his trainer.

"Okay Sandslash, use Poison Sting." The trainer ordered.

Sandslash fired white needles, from the quills of its back, at Eirwen.

"Use Protect!" Ashlyn countered.

Eirwen projected a green barrier around himself to protect him from the white needles that bounced off.

"Use Fury Swipes!" The rude boy shouted.

"Use Powder Snow!" Ashlyn ordered.

Eirwen breathed a gust of cold wind with small balls of snow at Sandslash, freezing it upon contact.

"Oh no!" The rude boy exclaimed.

"Now use Swift!" Ashlyn ordered.

A bunch of stars came out Eirwen's mouth and rain on Sandslash, breaking it out the ice.

"Icicle Crash!" Eirwen took a deep breath and released a wind with light blue sparkles in it from his mouth into the air. Then, small clumps of ice form in the wind and grow longer and larger, forming into sharp icicles. The icicles then rain down over Sandslash.

"Oh come on!" Sandslash's trainer shouted, "Get back to fighting Sandslash!"

Ashlyn could tell that this trainer was not nice to his own Pokémon.

"Use Ice Beam." She said to Eirwen.

Eirwen fired a beam of ice at Sandslash, freezing it and causing it to faint. Ashlyn won the Pokémon battle.

"Raichu!" Tesla cheered.

"Cyndaquil!" Cyndaquil cheered as well.

Ashlyn was happy with her victory, but the other trainer wasn't.

The boy gritted his teeth in anger, "Return!" He recalled back his unconscious mouse Pokémon. "I may have lost the battle, but I will get that Cyndaquil!" He took out a net and tried to catch it.

"Cynda!" Cyndaquil dodged the net.

"Hey! I won, so Cyndaquil is mine." Ashlyn told the boy.

"I don't care little girl! I will get that Cyndaquil no matter what!" The boy shouted out.

"Cyndaquil!" The fire mouse Pokémon dodged another net and then flames appeared on its back, "Cyndaquillllll!" It fired a Flamethrower attack at the annoying trainer.

"Ahhhh!" The purple haired trainer yelled out in pain as he was burnt, "Wahhh!" He ran away in fear.

"Serves him right," Ashlyn turned to Cyndaquil. "So do you still want to come with me?"

"Cyndaquil." It nodded and jumped into her arms. Ashlyn hugged Cyndaquil in return, happy to have a new Pokémon.

==================================

When Ashlyn and Tesla got back to the others, she told them what had happened.

"It's a good thing that you have captured Cyndaquil, Ashlyn. That guy doesn't deserve one." Misty stated.

"Yeah, he should train himself more if he wants to train anymore Pokémon." Brock commented.

"I wonder if I can catch a Totodile next. Then I will have the whole Johto starter set like I have the whole Kanto starter Pokémon set." Ashlyn said.

Brock smiled, "Maybe you will."

Then the others set off again for Azalea Town.

===============================================

And so, Ashlyn and her friends head off to Azalea Town where they can meet Kurt who can help them solve the mystery of the G.S. ball and for Ashlyn's next gym battle.
