Only the Beginning

Pan's warm breath floated through the cool morning air as he made his way through the wood. The alluring calls of creatures echoed from all around him. The greenery in the Never wood almost glowed, illuminating his path back home to the Hangman's Tree. It was off the path from Mermaid's Lagoon and out of the way of the Indian camp. Though it sat off the path, hidden behind the mountain only few knew where it was. They needed to keep it secure for the woods were a sacred place for many of the magical creatures and beings there. From Mermaids to the White Shriekers, all creatures in the forest helped it stay alive. The magical energy that flowed through every creature all over Neverland helped fuel the small island.

While Pan acted like a child, he was very smart and everything he did had a purpose. He always took the long route just in case he were to ever be followed. While the Lost Boys didn't realize this about Hook, Pan knew what Hook really wanted; to take over Neverland in order to gain control of its creature and the magic. The Lost Boys had no clue about Hook but Pan had known for years. Hook abducted Lost Boys during their hunting excursions and while they were out scavenging in groups or alone. Pan did everything to protect the innocence of the children. However, Hook started abducting more Lost Boys than normal in recent years and they were starting to ask questions.

Upon realizing what was happening, Pan stopped sending the Boys out on missions. Instead, he helped the faeries search for necessities while out protecting them. Bell aided Pan with several of these missions, helping Pan communicate with the faeries. They had become closer in recent years, spending almost every day together gathering food for the Lost Boys and making sure Hook stayed off of their trail. Hook had been trying to bring down the Indian Camp, capture and kill the mermaids from the lagoon for years. Slowly but surely the lagoon dried up and the mermaids that were left had to leave for the open sea. The lagoon was Hook's home, he'd cut it off when the sea started rising again. Having given up sea life to live on his airship, Hook was able to go into the air whenever he wanted and watch from above.

Pan explored the island two weeks after the lagoon had dried up and Hook had taken control of the cave. Animals and greenery had been dying everywhere on the island and the faeries had been speaking of Hook killing off the mermaids. Whether the rumor was true or not, he had to find out for himself because so many Lost Boys, Indian men and even some faeries who had transformed up had disappeared. As he grew closer he made sure he was hidden, so that no one magical or Hook could see him. On the edge of the cavern, hidden behind what was left of the greenery, he sat down. As he sat there, he noticed that it wasn't just Hook and his men anymore. All the mission creatures and men were down there working for Hook.

Two weeks after the lagoon dried up and Hook took over the cavern, Pan explored the island. Animals and greenery had been dying all over the island and the faeries had been talking about rumours of Hook killing off the mermaids. Whether the rumour was true or not he had to find out himself. Because so many Lost Boys and men from the Indian Camp and even some faeries who had transformed up had disappeared. As he grew close, he made sure he was hidden so that no one magical, or Hook saw him. He made himself comfortable on the edge of the cavern, hidden in what was left of the greenery around the cavern. As he sat there, he noticed it wasn’t just Hook and his men anymore. There seemed to be more men, and creatures, who seemed to be working for Hook. They seemed to be mining an ore out of the ground, but in doing this, Hook was killing the land around the cavern. Everything belonged to the land, and whatever ore Hook was taking for himself, was slowly killing the island.

Pan was a child in the way he thought, but a warrior at heart. All he wanted was for Neverland to thrive as it did so long ago. Since the pirate invasion, the East coast of the island near Mermaid Lagoon had begun to lose life, as a result of the pirates' hunting and excavation. Nevertheless, the pirates knew what they were doing, but no to the extent that it would threaten Neverland. Hook, the man who played games with Pan only a few years back was now killing the island, their home. Pan never understood Hook's change of heart, but he didn't have the time to try and figure it out. Bell and him had to try and figure out a way to put a stop to whatever operation that Hook was running. Pan and Bell had been scoping out the scene for a few weeks and had only found a few things. "Hook seems to be collecting the ore but not trading it with anyone, which means he is keeping it for himself. What could he be doing with it? " Pan said as they started back.

Bell nodded, a small twinkling sound as she started talking about her own ideas. Pan was really the only one who could understand her and the other faeries which was kind of neat. The faeries had someone else to talk to other than amongst themselves. Bell always rambled on when she was with Pan, though when around the other faeries, she was quiet. Bell always stayed inside and tinkered by herself. Most of the fae called her Tinker Bell, but she had historically disliked that name. Though she didn’t have much of a choice, it was bestowed upon her by the gods. When a name was given to a faerie by the gods, it stuck with them for life. Though no one had ever heard from the gods, the names came from the elders. Bell never believed in the gods much because they never helped her or her own kind.

Through all that, she still helped her friends, though the massacre of the East shores, was the massacre to the whole island. The island needed everything in balance for everything to thrive. If the cove wasn’t filled with water, then the plants wouldn’t be getting the water from all sides like they needed. If the mermaids weren’t on the East end of the island, singing their songs, then the Indian camp would never know when the sun was setting, This would result in the Indians being picked off by scavengers slowly over the years. With the balance of Neverland tipped and the pirates continuing whatever they were doing in that cave. Pan had to figure that out, and put an end to the pirates.
