Chapter 8- The Incident

"I want to meet your mom"

"Wha....are you kidding?"

"Do I look like I'm kidding?" He says with a dead serious face.

"You..haaa..."

"What's wrong?"

"I..let's sit down.."

They sit down at the nearest bench that they could see and continue their conversation. Jason were left alone playing at the park with some other kids.

"Why.."

"I want to meet her. I wanted to talk to her, thank her for everything you guys had done for me. I.. I didn't even got to say goodbye properly.." he says sighing.

"Ah..that's why.. but, you can just say it to me you know. I can pass it to everyone.."

"I want to meet them personally"

"...okay..if that is what you want" she says looking down.

"What's wrong?"

"Hmm?..nothing. Don't worry about me"

If only you know, Alec..if only you know..I..

She says clenching both of her hand at her tigh.

"When are you going back?"

"What?" She snaps out of it as soon as Alec started talking.

"When are you going back?"

"Next week.."

"You didn't have school?"

"I didn't go to school.."

"Ouh.."

"I'm sorry Alec but I have to go now"

"Ah.. alright. Do you want me to go with you?"

"No..I'm fine. Goodbye Alec" she says smiling, trying to put on a happy face.

"Goodbye Elena"

She go and take Jason with her. When they were walking back, she clench her hand that were holding Jason and he groans in pain.

"Ow! Elena! Why are you clenchi..Elena? What's wrong? Why are you crying..?"

She didn't say anything, they just continue to walk until they reach her brother's house. When they got there, Elena immediately toss herself on her bed.

If only you know Alec.. I like you..I've been waiting for so long..but now that you're here..infront of me..I..don't know what to do..

Says her as she cry her heart out. She loves him. She loves it when he smile. She loves it when he laugh together with her during their fun time, even cry together. Teasing each other.

But now that they've gotten bigger, it feels rather awkward. She's been bottling up her feeling since the very start. Since they first met each other, even though she was just a little girl back then.

Back at the park, Alec was still sitting there. Staring blankly at the dull sky.

Has it always been like this? I don't remember the sky being this grey..

He says reaching out his hand.

I wish I didn't leave the house back then..I'm sure I could do something..something at least, to save them..if I hadn't left, maybe they would still be alive right now..

A strong feeling of guiltiness flow right through him. His veins shaken up until the very bottom of his bone.

He lets out a sigh, gets up and walk home. When he were walking, a ball come rolling to him.

"Hey! Can you pass the ball!" A kid says shouting.

They were playing at a field beside him. Even though the neighborhood is pretty quiet, the kids know each other and they were always playing here when they got time.

He kick the ball. It were flying and it score right at the goal. The kids were caught off guard. They were amazed.

"That was frickin cool dude!" The kids says cheering him.

"Mind joining us?"

"Sorry kids. I got some business to handle"

"Really? Well that's unfortunate"

"Bye kids" he says waving and continue to walk.

"Bye bye!!"

Soon enough, he reaches his uncle's house. The smell of blood immediately struck his nose the moment he step into it.

"What the..." He says pinching his nose.

You've got to be kidding me..

"Eyyo Brice! Where you at?"

"Yes...?" He answers with a low voice from the kitchen.

"You didn't clean this mess?"

"It's your job"

This man really do have some balls.

"You better clean this up the moment I come down"

He then proceeds to walk to his room.

He lay himself on the bed and fell asleep.

Time passes by and he wakes up exactly at 12.45 p.m. . He lets out a breath and check the time.

"It's way past noon..I'm hungry.."

He walk downstairs and see that Bryce had already cleaned up his mess. He nods his head, not fully awake yet.

He sits down at the dining table and reach for his phone at his pocket.

-°hello? How may I help you?

-hello I would like to...

He hangs up the phone and calls Bryce to the table. When he reaches there, he ask him to bring the first aid kit box. He takes it from the shelf and put in on the table.

He gets a basin full of water and a clean napkin. He cleans Bryce's scar with it, put some iodine with a cotton ball then wrap it up.

"We're going to the bank tomorrow"

"Why?"

"I want you to give me back my money. The account were under you, right? Change it to me"

"Do it yourself"

"I can't"

"Why?"

"Because I'm a minor?"

He didn't talk back.

"Good"

Sometimes later, the door bell could be heard signing that someone were outside.

"Coming" he then walk up to the door, thank the girl and sit back down.

"Eat up"

"Food..?"

"You don't want it?"

"I want it!"

"Eat it then.."

Time soon passes by and it were already night. At Roland's house, Elena locked herself in her room all day long refusing to take a single bite of food her brother had offered.

It were dinner time and Elena were sitting on the table, sitting as still as the rock as she waits for the food to get ready.Her brother poke her at her shoulder and she turn around.

"What's wrong?" Her brother ask, sitting beside her.

"Nothing..."she says shaking her head.

"You met him..don't you? You met Alec today at the park"

"You remember him?"

"Of course I remember him"

"I thought you wouldn't, because you were so busy with school those years"

"You didn't tell him, right?"

"Tell him what?"

"Don't play dumb. I know you like him"

"Ho..how did you know??" She says surprised.

"You think I wouldn't notice? Everytime you tell stories about him, your eyes sparkle. You're so happy.."

"Really..?" She says as she could feel her blood rushing to her face.

"Yeah you do!" Her brother says laughing.

"Roland, I'm going home next week"

"Really? That's unfortunate. You sure?"

"Yeah..you don't want to tag along?"

"I can't, I got a special client to meet up with next week"

"Sure then"

"You want me to go with you?"

"Nah, it's okay. I can grab a cab. My clothes aren't that many either"

"Alright"

Time flies as fast as the wind and today, is the day to meet the Clarks.

Alec were getting ready in his room when his phone starts to ring. He checks the number and pick up the call.

Hey

-Hey, Alec! Where am I going to take you?

-I'll wait for you at the park

- Alright! I'll see you in 30 minutes. Bye

-Goodbye

He says as he hang up the call. After he finishes with his look, he tells Bryce to look after the house and goes to the park.

I never went outside of the house this early before..it's like 7 a.m. now. I should be asleep

When he reach there, he can already see Elena waiting with a cab. He wave his hand and calls for her.

It takes about 40 minutes drive to go there. When they reach there, Elena ask the driver to stop at the convenience store. They got out, pays him and goes inside.

"Do you want anything? I'll pay it"

"Thank you. Then I'll take this bread and this mineral water"

She pay for their food and continue to walk.

"Do you want me to bring that bag for you?"

"No than-"

"Give it" he says snatching the bag from her shoulder.

"Ah...why?? Just let me hold it myself"

She says trying to grab the bag from Alec.

"No" he says bringing the bag higher from her reach.

While she were trying to reach it, she stumbles, making she falls on top of him.

"SHAAAAAA!!!!"

"hey..shhh!! Everyone's going to hear you!!" He says both half shouting while trying to calm her down.

"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry" she says so fast that Alec's head started spinning.

"Hey" he says holding both of her shoulder to make her stop nagging so fast.

"I said, it's okay"

"Ahhh....ALEC!!"

"Whatt???"

"Your to close!!" She says pushing Alec away.

"Your face is totally pink right now"

"Wha..?"

"You're face is pink! Are you sick?!"

"G..GET AWAY!!"

Alec continue to walk with a bruised cheek. Elena who were walking behind him were totally ashamed.

"Hey..I'm sorry okay.."

"It's fine"

"No..no it's not!" She says grabbing his head from the back.

"Stay still" she says holding his face.

She takes out a napkin from her skirt, and pour the mineral water on it. She then place the napkin on his right cheek.

"Hold this"

"Okay"

"You're pretty tall now huh"

"Yeah, remember when you said that you're going to be forever taller than me?"

"Shush Alec! That's an old story"

They say walking together. Soon enough, they reaches her house.

"That's it. We just have to cross through there. Let's go"

They cross the road over and they finally reaches the front door. Elena knock and Nolen, can be seen opening the door for her.

"Elena you're back"

"Yes dad" she says as they hug each other.

"And who's this?"

"My name's Alec"

"Alec? The one that knock his head on the bathtub?" Her father says laughing.

"Yeah that's me" he says as they hug each other.

"Come on in. I'll have your mom make us some tea"

"Mom! I'm back!"

"Elena! ..and who is this? I can't see him clearly. Let me grab my glasses real quick"

"My name's Alec. Alec Hunter"

"Alec?" She stops walking. She turns around and walk towards him.

"Hi.."

Without hesitation, she pulls him closer to her and she hug him. She starts crying.

After the drama, all of them sit down at the table and started chatting. It were like he's a part of the family. They talk and laugh and talk until it's 3 p.m. when Elena decided to take a stroll on the road. Alec joins her.

"Let's run through the road" Elena says.

"No. It's dangerous. We can use the zebra crossing"

"Okay.."

His phone suddenly starts to ring. He takes the call as he walk leaving Elena behind.

He couldn't see me. Now, I can run.

She run through the road without noticing, a black car were speeding up towards her.

She notices the car but her body stopped. Her minds were screaming inside, telling the body to move itself but she couldn't. She can't even scream.

The black car drive past Alec with a great speed. He then notices that Elena were not walking beside him. So he turns around, only to see her lying uncounciously on the ground, in her own pool of blood.

He immediately dash towards her to check if she's still breathing.

"No no no don't die on me.." he says with a worried tone. He place his palm on her chest. Luckily, her heart is still beating. He dials 911 on his phone.

Nolen were reading his newspaper peacefully at the table, while sipping the rest of his tea.

When his drink finishes, he gets up to put it in the sink and that's when he heard someone knocking at the door aggressively.

He walk opens the door and finds Alec carrying Elena on both of his hand. She's unconscious and bleeding everywhere.

"What...?"

"Hurry up! We have to cover the wound at her head!"

He then rush inside and goes to the toilet. Grabbing any clothes that's in his reach and press it on the wound.

Her father can just watch it. He can't say anything. He couldn't believe that things like this will occur again..on his own daughter.

"Elena...don't die on me" Alec says whispering onto her ears.

Her mother notices the commotion downstairs and went down.

"Nolen? What's happening?"

Before she can even see what's happening in the bathroom, the door were bust open.

"Where are the victim!" The man shouts.

"She's here!" Alec went out carrying her and put her on the wheeled stretcher.

"What is this?" Clara says in her shaky voice. All of them couldn't speak. The air got tense.

A week has passed since then and Elena...were in a coma. The doctors said it's because the hit brings to much damage at her brain.

The news haven't reach to her brother yet. The doctors says that it's better to tell him earlier than waiting. Alec decides to do that by himself.

It was nightime and he was sitting beside her bed, holding her phone. He open it up and enter her contact, finding Roland's number.

- hello, Elena! What makes you want to call me at this hour?

-your sister in in a coma.

- what? What are you talking about? Who are you?

He hang up the call without answering any of his questions. He reach out for her hand and cry.

"Why did this had to happen to you.."
