Chapter 10

"Not at a time like this..." He says stumbled down on the ground.

° a few minutes earlier °

The lights were flickering with the homeless men sitting there, begging for money. This is just the way this world are rotating. There are the poor, and there are the riches. It's very complicated.

When he's casually walking down the alley, his phone suddenly rings, signing that a call is coming. Without any second thought, he takes it.

-Hello?

- Hello, is this the guardian to a patient named Amaya Johnson?

-Yes, Yes I am. Can I help you with anything?

- I'm sorry to inform you that her brain stops operating this morning at 5.46 a.m. . We couldn't do anything to save her at the time.

-What...

-Im sorry sir...

°°°°°°

Why just why...

He didn't want to waste any time, so he comes back to his senses as soon as possible. Now that his phone is working, he immediately dials a taxi number. Moments later when it arrives, he jumped right in and tells the direction of the hospital.

Halfway through, the traffic were stuck with many cars honking one another.

“You've got to be kidding...f¢ck!”

He kicks the driver seat, letting out his rage.

“Hey! I have to pay this if it breaks!”

Alec didn't give any attention to the man driving. Three hours went by before they could finally break out from the heavy traffic. The drive took another 30 minutes before arriving at the hospital.

“That was such a waste of time!” Alec says quietly.

“I'm sorry, but I have to get you to pay extra because of the traffic. It wastes tons of my fuel”.

“What?! How's that allowed?!”

“I'm sorry man”

“Like shit am I going to give you my money! Take this!” He tossed the precise amount of money without paying the double price and run off.

“Hey! Hey you!”

He just ran into the hospital without turning back. The counter. The first thing that he needs to go is the counter.

“The counter...there! Excuse me, I...”

Out of the blue, the ringing sound came piercing back to his ears. Only this time, it stings more. He placed his head on the table counter on top of his hand, groaning.

“Umm...sir? Are you okay?”

“I... I'm okay...” He said bringing his head up.

“Okay then... How may I help you?”

“I'm here to check on a patient named Amaya Johnson. I got a call this morning saying that her brain stopped functioning... Do you...have any good news...”

“Let me check”

The lady working pull out a big notebook from the table drawer and began searching for her name.

“Ah, here it is”

“... How?”

“I'm sorry, but it says here that they have already burned the body because it's been too long and that there is several incidents here today at this hospital”.

“Oh...the ash...the ash, where is the ash?”

The lady didn't let a single word out of her mouth and her face shows the look of sympathy. It's a bad sign...it's not good...

Alec can't take faces like that. His stomach started to feel bad. It feels like he's about to vomit anytime now.

“... Follow me, sir”.

He follows her without any fight. The walk and walk into the deeper part of the level where it barely got anyone there.

“Hey...where are we going now?”

“Parking lot...”

“What?”

“Please. Just follow me quietly”.

What's with this woman telling me to shush... Or is it because she was doing something... That she shouldn't been doing?

What could it be? These questions keep lingering in his mind making his suspicion towards her rose higher.

“Please...come in here” she says opening a door that leads to a... Storeroom?

“Storeroom? What are we going to do here?”

The woman didn't seem to be forcing him to go inside, so she went in by herself. With his guard on, Alec continue to watch her movement. The room was pretty dark, so he couldn't see much.

“What are you doing in there?”

She did not answer it. Alec didn't ask another questions after that. A few seconds had passed, and she got out from the room carrying something in her hands. It kinda looked like...an ash vessel...

“What's the meaning of this?” He asks.

“This is Amaya Johnson's. There's no extra room to spare for-”

She could not even finish her sentence before Alec punch the Vessels from her hand to the ground. He made a mess.

“Why did you do that!?” She scolds Alec for the way he behaves.

“You guys didn't have enough room to spare and you guys put it here?! Aren't there no other place?! This is ridiculous!” He says, laughing like he's running low on oxygen.

“Ooh... You guys are funny...”

“Sir”

“Don't you 'Sir' me! I don't want this thing. You can keep it”. He says, immediately turning around after that and started walking.

Why did I do that...

°°°°°°°

Back at Bryce's house, he was laying down on his sofa watching some television show cast when suddenly someone kicked the door open real hard it feels like this whole house is going to be taken down.

He got up and look behind to see who is it. A tall person passed by the living room and Bryce calls for him.

“Alec! Why did you kick the door that hard?”

The footsteps that could be heard walking stops. He turns his body around and walk towards Bryce.

“Why are you sobbing?”

The question was not given an answer but a punch.

“What are you doing?!”

“Go find a work tomorrow, Bryce”.

“A work? Why would I go to work?”

“Make me money” he says grabbing his clothes before pushing him back.

He then rush to his room and tries to sleep.
