Chapter 13

The cat stared at me with its judgeful eyes like it was debating if I was worth its time or if I should have a clean death. My body stood frozen before it, one wrong move can cause immense pain. Few minutes passed before the cat made its decision, turning its back on me and a short 'meow' followed. It headed straight to the elevator, pushing the button with its cute and fluffy paw. Ok I gotta admit that cat is quite smart for being well a 'cat' it made me confuse and my mind whirled with possibilities. Another loud meow surfaced making me snap out of my thoughts

"I'm coming," I called out which earned me another long meow.

I made sure to keep my distance from it, when it saw me do so he rolled his eyes at me. Ok, I don't know if I was imagining it or not since how can a cat roll its eyes at you, with another press of a button.

The elevator started its ascend.

The doors give a dinged sound before opening, when the metal door opened there sat Zen on his table. He gave me a Curt nod in acknowledgment and I returned the gesture, he was about to go back to whatever he was doing but stopped when he saw the cat beside me. His stoic expression faltered.

"It seems like Oliver has taking a liking to you." He stated making me confuse

"Oliver?"

I looked at the cat below me who in returned meowed at his name, I was about to ask another question but my mouth clam shut when the double doors to the boss' office slammed open.

There stood Zero a sour look on his face and when he saw me it turned grimmer before pulling up his mask, his blank expression which he pulls up to the whole mafia. I kinda miss his cheery and laid-back self though, ok it may have been annoying but it was easier to handle than this.

"Zero I... "

I started but was cut short when he bumped me in the shoulder before walking to the elevator. Ok, he's still mad at me thanks for confirming it, without a word the metal doors closed leaving me there in the middle of the hallway. I could feel my fists clenching beside me, look I know he is mad at me but he didn't need to rub it in or more like use force, my shoulder feels a little numb.

"Oh, so you're the reason." I turned to look at Zen who was busy wiping his glasses

"Don't get me wrong though, I like the peace this past few weeks, and is the best few weeks of my entire life but it just feels odd."

Slouching back at his chair he heaved a long sigh. Zen has been in my opinion have never looked neater than today, he's slick black hair is perfectly in condition no strand out of place.

"Don't you like it though?"

The question made him double take

"Yes I do but I don't know, I'm just used to Zero's shenanigans."

The declaration made me smile a bit

"Mr. Zen you know, you should get out more. Maybe date here and there, you're too good looking to end up alone in life."

He raised his eyebrow at me, only for me to giggle at the act. He was about to correct me but was cut short when the double doors beside us slammed open.

"So are you gonna stand there all day or are you going to get your ass in here?"

The question made me jump in fear, the boss was standing in the hallway with her arms crossed with a menacing look on her face

"Well?" She asked voice slightly louder "I don't have all day for your bull shit."

I squeak before scurrying along, the cat hot in my wheels.

"You're late as it is and here you are delaying more of my time."

The only option I have was ducking my head, trying to avoid more of her backlash. Sneering at my work. The boss took her seat with an exasperated sigh before looking at me with a bored expression

"I'm gonna keep this short as possible so listen up."

She said and with a quick nod from me, she continued

"I'm assigning you to the field."

My jaw dropped

"But you said."

"Are you questioning my orders?"

A sharp glare made me shut up on the spot, making her sneer in amusement.

"You are to accompany Lynne with her current mission."

Pulling out a black folder and sliding it in my direction

"The target is the first deputy minister of Russia, he owes me a lot of money. I tried asking in a civilized way but it was unheard, my patience has run thin." She explained in a voice full of authority "your job, however, is to join the infiltration team with Lynne to break into the house, they tried for weeks but sadly it has a major amount of security and they can't easily access it."

"So you want me there to give them a smooth entrance?"

"I want to dispose of him as fast as possible."

"But don't they have a person there with the same job description as me?" I asked in a soft tone to not irritate her "I mean don't they have an Intel division too?"

A look of disbelief followed my question and a grumble

"sometimes I wonder if you're smart as they say you are." I pouted at the claim

The boss pulled out another folder this time however she opened and read it out loud

"Midnight, the notorious criminal who is known for her skill in cracking down almost all the secured places in the US."

The summary made me gulp and was internally screaming for her to stop but alas she continued reading

"Managed to steal the topmost secured bank at the age of 13 and all did it in one night, later on, disappeared without a trace."

Looking up from her file she gave me a sharp look

"What I'm wondering right now is why pull this weak demure, when you can just say it to my face without pulling that mask up."

A burst of laughter shook my form, I haven't met someone with a Keen eye, now this was a first. Oh how exciting, with the last laugh I straightened myself up before flashing the boss a wide grin

"What a shame seems like I've been caught." The way I said it was out of amusement rather than disappointment "Pardon me, boss, it's just that I don't want to puke my guts out on the way there."

"A private jet will be ready for your departure." She said while shooing me away with her hand "Lynne will fill you in once you arrive there."

"I am not taking that damn jet again or ever." I stood my ground this time, I'm not getting on another plane and no one can make me otherwise. The glare she gave me was enough to kill a puppy.

"Not my problem."

"But."

"I have more things to do than listen to your whines, you're dismissed."

Turning her chair so that I will get the message but I was known to be persistent in things

"Can't I just take the car there?"

There was a short pause

"Do you know how to drive?"

"No."

"Then we're done here."

It was silent after that, come on think. You can't handle another plane ride. A minute passed then another

"What if I take the train instead?"

"It would take you 2 days."

"Good enough for me."

I shrugged closing the folder in my hands. With an exasperated sigh the boss turned her chair, she had this irritated and annoyed look on her face

"You're not leaving till I let you do it, right?!"

A nod

"The mission will start on Friday night."

I looked at my wristwatch, today was Monday which gives me 3 days if I leave immediately

"I'll be there Thursday night."
