Beside Dylan was Zero, who still had his gun out and was pointing it in our direction. Everyone in the room was silent as tension began to rise. Zero had this serious and furious look on his face if looks could kill, all of us should be dead by now. With one sweeping look at the crowd, everyone scramble out of the room until only the 4 of us were left.
Zero went up to the stage with an angrier expression than earlier, I could tell that he was truly pissed this time, if he was an animated character you could probably see the smoke coming out of both his ears
I protested when he suddenly grabbed my wrist. The grip he had on me was so tight that made me wince in pain. Thrashing my arm around in an attempt to make his hold loosen, instead, his hold tightened on me even more.
"Let me go." But my plea fell on deaf ears.
This time he cannot be reasoned out at all. I stopped protesting after a few minutes and slump my shoulders in defeat.
"Done with your childish tantrum?!" Zero gave me a calculated look, earning an eye roll from me.
"Dylan, do me a favor and escort little bunny here to the infirmary while I have a little chat with your friend back there."
Nodding at the command Dylan gestured at me to come with him
"Wait a minute, I don't need medical help. I'm fine by my own." My little outburst made Zero chuckle
"I beg to differ." Jabbing his finger to my abdomen made my body flinch in pain
"Now be a good little bunny and go with Dylan, if you keep being stubborn I'll have to drag you there myself, and trust me you don't want that to happen." I scowled at his suggestion but nodded nonetheless, defeated. With a triumphant smirk. He let go of my wrist and motioned to Dylan and me to leave.
'I'm so going to kill him for this.'
My mind flashed all possible scenarios that could do the job, smiling at a particular one. Dylan gave a confused look but didn't comment about it.
"Do you want me to support you till we get there?"
It was almost a sincere suggestion but then I remembered that he was the main reason for the many bruises that littered my body.
"I can walk on my own, thank you very much."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Ouch!"
The nurse paid no mind to my protests and continued her work, tying the bandage around my abdomen tighter than ever.
"Can you be any gentler?"
Scoffing at my remark the nurse could only let out a 'tsk' but loosened the bind a bit, after a couple of readjusting the nurse finally finished.
"I'm going to leave painkillers for you if you can't handle the bruising pain."
Placing the bottle of pills at my side, the nurse slowly gathered her stuff up
"If you two need me, I'll be in my office."
"Thanks for the help, Yvonne." Dylan smiled at the nurse who in return rolled her eyes at him.
"Whatever."
I was eventually left alone with Dylan, Silence fell between the two of us which made me uneasy on the bed. Fidgeting with the sheets made my mind wander.
"Does little bunny still have a boo-boo?"
It was a harmless question but what irritated me was that his tone on saying it.
"Shut up before I shove that scalpel, where it hurts."
He merely laughed at my threat before taking a seat on the bed to my right
"You're adorable when your angry, little bunny."
I let out an exasperated sigh, looking at him with an annoyed expression.
"You're enjoying this aren't you?"
Dylan shrugged
"I'm just curious on how did Zero took a liking to you hence the nickname."
His reply was short but made my mind whirl with questions. He probably saw the confusion on my face and explained more
"He likes to give nicknames to people he cares about."
"Dude he tried to kill me when we first met!" I exclaimed a little too loud "I never thought getting a knife to your throat was any sort of a warm-hearted welcoming."
Dylan was about to say something but kept it to himself, like come on. You and I both know that it wasn't right and if Zero does 'like' me in his own twisted and creepy way, then I don't want it.
"Well, it's not my fault you were so cute when scared."
I turned to my side to see Zero standing there, arms crossed with his mischievous smile. Dylan and I were silent due to his sudden appearance but did not dare comment on it. Zero took this as a cue to sit next to Dylan who scoots over to give him more space.
"You didn't kill Rachel right?" Dylan questioned him in a gentle tone hoping to not over-step any boundary, Zero could only chuckle, untwisting his arms before giving a subtle reply.
"She reaps what she sows."
The answer made Dylan cringe and could only look away.
"I better go now."
Watching Dylan leave in a haste, I can only wonder what could Zero possibly do to make him so frightened and what did he mean 'she reaps what she sows' with all these questions occupying my head, I didn't notice the door slamming shut.
"Do you have a death wish or something?"
His smile disappeared replaced by a sneer, clenching the sheets did nothing to soothe my rising anger at him.it only gotten worse, who does this guy thinks he is and why does it seem like he cares. Taking my silence into consideration he continued his scolding
"Is it really hard for you to survive one day without making any sort of trouble?!"
"It wasn't my fault, Dylan was the one who provoked Rachel." I snap which only earned a snicker from him
"Yes he did and you fell along to his scheme." Stating the obvious ploy with a bored expression
"Just leave me alone," I grumbled crossing my arms with a puff directing my vision away from him
"Look, I know it's hard for you to adjust to all of this." He spoke like he was genuinely worried for me but I was not believing any of it
"I don't need your pity."
Declaring at his face that I didn't need him was a bad move but I didn't care at that moment, he looked taken back with my outburst. His expression made me feel somewhat guilty but I brushed it off like he doesn't really care about me,
it's a façade right? My anger rising at the thought
"Well don't blame me, if you die then." He said eyes darkening
"and here I thought, you were this genius prodigy; everyone kept talking about but the truth is you're just a sad little kid, who is busy pitying herself and almost got killed in the process."
"How dare you, you never went through the things I did, and besides."
I pointed at him furiously while glaring daggers
"You're only here because the boss ordered you to look after me, you never cared if I die or not in the first place. You're just her puppet to move and command as she please."
My tone, in the end, was a little bit loud than intended but I was so pissed at him right now, scratch that I was beyond furious. Silence fell between the two of us neither said a word at the other, my heartbeat pounding louder in my chest, dreading his answer. another minute passes before he let out a 'tsk'.
He stood up, hands tucked in his pockets.
A loud crash echoed the room as he kicked the chair to the side, his back was facing me but I could see that he was silently fuming. Without a sound he went to the door as he was turning the knob he stopped.
"Tell me if this story sounds familiar."
His tone was somewhat calm but gruff
"a kid no older than 8 years old was raised by only one parent because the other one left, living in a rundown house with that said parent who is abusive." He paused before continuing
"the kid thought his life would get a lot better if he left but the world isn't always kind is it?!"
Hearing the last part made my anger subdue, I was frozen on the spot too dumbstruck to say anything back. Zero slowly turned around flashing me a sly smile
"Now tell me which one of us doesn't know anything?"
with that, he left leaving me even more guilty.
