Chapter 22

After what seemed like hours but was actually a few minutes, the tailor finally finished. I let out a deep breath that I didn’t know I was holding, taking a few more steady breaths to calm my racing heart when that was settled did I only let go of the pressure on my hand. It throbbed by the lack of pressure but the good thing was the skin didn’t break and there wasn’t any sort of bleeding, just an ache. Nothing that I couldn’t handle.

"Now miss Midnight what type of fabric do you want?” he swayed through the racks scanning through it “I highly suggest something lightweight and durable.”

He pulled out what seemed to be a hot pink suit which made me rapidly shook my head in disapproval, don’t get me wrong I don’t dislike pink or anything but the thing on his hand just screamed ‘Mean girls.2’ Seeing my discomfort he put it back on the rack and continued his search. It took us about 20 types of apparel which I distinctly turned down for the tailor to finally give out a huff of breath, frowning deeply and his hair now disheveled.

“You’re a picky one, aren’t you?”

“How can I be picky when I don’t even know what to look for.”

He facepalmed

“Just randomly pick one already.” Lynne grunted behind me “It doesn’t matter which one you choose, it’ll be made bulletproof nonetheless.”

Of course, it matters I’m the one who’s going to wear it not you

I could only roll my eyes in her irritated tone but in doing so something caught my eye, a black thing stood out from the rest. It was slightly hidden by the rest like it hasn’t been brought out for a long time, under the pelts and fur was a trench coat. It was long for one the front stopped just below my knee while the back part stopped above my calf, perfect for a structure of my size and it was hooded which was a big plus for me. It didn’t look worn out more like good as new, I’m guessing after it was made It was displayed here but no one acknowledges it until today that is.

“I want this one.”

Grabbing the thing to show my companions

“Out of everything here, you have to pick the tackiest one.”

“It seems like I have a wildcard on my hands.” The tailor commented straightening up, palming his disoriented hair before grabbing the hanger from my hand.

“I’ll take this then.”

I let him have it, stepping out his way. He exited the room leaving me with Lynne who had her arms folded in her chest, a scowl etched through her face.

“At this point, why am I even surprise.”

She let out a huff before making a beeline to the door to my right, the one where the assistant came and disappeared to. A flick of her hand made me follow behind, we entered another room but this part wasn’t connected to the tailor shop at all. Inside was like the cubicle at the main hall but this time it was wider and have more room in it, shelves lined through the walls, and a lot of tables with pieces of machinery on top of it. A guy in a lab coat stood with his back at us, typing away on his tablet. Didn’t even bother to acknowledge our sudden entrance, at my side, Lynne cleared her throat.

The small rumble made the guy flinch, almost dropping his tablet in the process with shoulders tense he slowly turned around. It was Mr. Grumpy, his leather jacket was replaced by a lab coat. The time he saw us he visibly relaxed, a scoff came out from him.

“You two just came in just in time.” He said in a flat tone and ushered us to follow him, the room was somewhat chaotic in its own way, and venturing through it just proves my statement. The last table which is small from the rest was the only one without any experiments, only a computer, and a CPU with an office chair behind it.

Mr. grumpy went to rummage one of the drawers, flinging open other drawers, digging through them as well.

“It’s gotta be in here somewhere.” He grumbled, “Now here it is.”

On his hand was a black flash drive which he later passed on to me, I gave him a confused look but he only shrugged before plopping down his seat.

“The Otaku nerd sent that up as you requested.”

Realization hit me, ‘that was fast’ I shuddered, slipping the overdrive key into my pocket

“Cypher is the head of research and weaponry as seen on the hall, he’s the one in charge and top builder.” Lynne conceded “So if you need new tech he’s the guy for the job.”

Cypher or Mr. Grumpy propped up his elbow at the table laying his chin on his palm, pressing his lips into a thin line, dull set of brown orbs boring through mine like an emotionless void. A bored expression washed through his features making shudder on the spot, looking to the side to avoid the unbearable gaze.

“Do you have a device that can help me understand German?”

The question made him perk up in his seat, eyes gleaming back to their natural color. The sudden activeness caught me off guard, a flinch went through my whole being, and a wave of uneasiness course through my bones. A gulp and a deep breath came out from me before responding,

“Like an instant translator?”

“I can make you one but it would take me a couple of days to finish.” He exclaimed

“But I need it by tomorrow.”

At the statement his cheerful mood went sour in a matter of minutes, then with a huff stood up from his chair and sauntered past me

“If you want one then make it yourself.”

And just like that, he was out the door, I looked at Lynne who in return only shrugged before turning on her heel

“You heard what he said, you’ll build your own tech.” she said waving her hand at the side, shooing me to start working “Try building anything here in his workshop, he won’t mind.”

Mumbling an “I think.” Before exiting the door leaving me alone by myself. The room was silent save the hum of the Ac, it was the perfect environment for a creator.

“If you want to get the job done then you should do it yourself. “ I grumbled under my breath

The thought however made me giggle in aspiration, looking forward to all the trinkets lying around the room. I took a little whirl and sighed

‘This is gonna be a long night’
