"Maya, do you know how to wait tables??"
"Never done it, why?"
"Our waitress just quit, you need to go out there now, the people are getting impatient."
"But, I've never done it before", Maya said.
"You'll be fine, just walk around, see if everyone has the menu, enough to drink or if they're looking upset", his boss said.
"But-"
"And remember: the customers well being is above yours", the boss interrupted. "Come on, hurry!"
Maya nodded and quickly got rid of his apron, grabbed paper and pen and rushed to the closest table with a bunch of young people, probably around his age.
"Hello this is Wang's, can I take your orders?"
"Hey where is this pretty waitress from last time?"
"She quit, sir."
"Noo, she was really nice", a female said.
"Her body was really nice", said the male next to her.
Maya gulped.
"Anyway, can I get you something to drink first?", he asked.
"Well this one is nice too", a blonde haired male said and let his finger slide up Mayas leg which made him shiver.
"He's probably very juicy", another one said on the other side and grabbed Mayas ass which caused Maya to yelp.
"Guys guys, just leave him alone, alright?", a brown haired tall man said and grabbed the wrist of one of his friends.
"What happened to you Elias? Can't two boys have fun?"
"He doesn't look like he's enjoying it", Elias said and turned to the young waiter.
"Hi I'm Elias. Excuse them, we'll just have a beer each."
Maya nodded and walked back into the kitchen.
That just got pretty uncomfortable, pretty quick, he thought and shook his head lightly. The customers' well being was above his. He should not complain. Next time, he would just slap their hand away. He picked up a few beers from the frigde and went over to hand them out.
"Hey pretty boy, did you miss us?", the blonde one asked and was about to touch Maya again.
"I have to ask you to stop that, otherwise you'll have to leave.", he said with cold eyes.
"Well, I know you like it", the male continued.
Maya leaned forward so that only the male could hear him.
"This is a restaurant sir. If you feel the need to grab bodies and touch people in inappropriate places I'd suggest you go look for a whore, who is willing to try with someone who has the most smallest dick and the most dry hands. Good luck finding one who's wanting to fuck YOU. Don't dare to touch me ever again. If you will, I am forced to shove this bear of yours so far up your ass, it'll come back out front", Maya whispered with a friendly tone and leaned back.
The male clenched his teeth.
Maya grinned on the inside. He was glad that other customers were around them. He was sure the other would have punched him.
"Good. Now what do you want to eat?"
"I'll have this steak", the blonde male said and pointed on something on the menu in his hands.
"How do you want it, sir?"
"Bloody."
If eyes could kill, Maya thought, he'd be long dead by now.

"How about another round big boy, huh? Come on!"
Underneath the restaurant was a bar with a DJ and a brilliant bartender. If someone didn't go to the restaurant, they went to the bar.
"No, no, I shouldn't. My sisters are probably waiting at home. I should go", Elias said.
"Okay loser, your loss."
Elias sighed, packed up his things and left the bar.
When he came out the side door, he saw someone sitting on the ground. A cigarette in the left, a coffee in the right hand. It was dark.
The smoke spread throughout the black sky. No bird was singing, no butterfly flying. Just the smell of city and freedom.
"Hey you good over there?", Elias asked.
The person looked up.
"Weren't you our waiter?"
"Weren't you the one with the rude friends?"
Elias chuckled. "Yes, that must have been us. I'm sorry for the way they behaved, I truly am. I would like to say that they aren't normally like that but.."
"Why do you hang out with them then, if they're always like this?"
"It's complicated."
"Yeah it always is, isn't it."
Maya got up, took a last inhale of his cigarette and threw it away.
"I gotta get inside again, my break is over."
"Your break? I actually thought you were done?"
"Nah, I'm working a double shift today."
„Aren't you exhausted? I mean.. it's pretty late."
„And how is that any of your business?", Maya asked coldly.
"It is not it's just.. doesn't the restaurant close soon anyway?"
"I'm sure you've heard of our bar."
"You're working at that bar?"
"Yes, a lot of the workers here work at both places. Why does it matter?"
"My friends are there."
"So?"
"Well, Damon ist kind of pissed. He keeps on talking about what he'll do to you if he sees you again."
"Damon's the blonde one? Listen, I gotta go, nice talking to you and all but I don't wanna be late."
Elias grabbed his hand as he wanted to leave.
"What are you doing? Let go-"
"He's dangerous."
Maya laughed. "Do you know how silly you sound? I'll be fine. And you will leave me alone now, because I need to clock in."
Maya squirmed out of his grip.
"Alright, but let me come with you."
"I don't need a bodyguard."
"Please, you won't even see me."
"Why do you want to save me so badly?"
"Because I know Damon. And I don't want your pretty face ruined."
Maya nodded. "Fine, whatever. If you'll just stop talking."
"Sure."
The two of them walked inside, down the stairs and Elias quickly went somewhere in the back to not let his friends notice his attendance.
"Was about time."
"Sorry I'm late", Maya said to his coworker.
He washed his hands and got behind the bar.
Damon stood with his friends a bit aside. Maya saw him walking over.
"Well well well."
"Welcome back sir, are you enjoying our bar?", Maya asked subtly and gave a cold smile.
"I'll show you what I enjoy!"
"I thought we talked about this, sir. You don't scare me."
Damons eyes showed pure anger.
"Can I get you something to drink, sir? If you don't want anything I'd friendly have to ask you to move your place so others can order. Well?", Maya raised an eyebrow.
"I'll wait for you boy", he spit out.
The rest of the evening went quite boring and the young man found Elias' behavior very very unnecessary. But he didn't bother being able to catch a nice look of him every half hour. He would lie if he said that Elias wasn't handsome. He liked him. He didn't know why but he gave him that chill feeling of honesty and care. Too bad his friends were assholes tho.
It was 2 am and his night shift was over. He would still have to get home somehow but he was looking forward to a real nice cup of tea and most importantly his bed. He had earned good money today. Life as waiter was more stressful and dealing with idiots all the time got annoying soon enough.. but he got tips. And he knew he could use the little extra.
"Done now are we?", Damon said, leaning against the the wall as Maya stepped outside.
"Just get lost, I don't need this crap from you."
He lit up a new cigarette and meant to get on his way home when someone with immense power pushed him down onto the street. Elias ran out of the building ready to get between the two but then saw how Maya kicked his blonde attacker and watched him stumble backwards. He got up again, his fists closed, his eyes narrowed.
"What you didn't expect that from a pretty boy like me?"
Damon ran towards him, directly into him and they rolled around on the street. Maya was on his back laying on the ground. It wasn't helpful, that he had the light-weighted body type. As Damon tried punching him, he simply moved his head a bit and heard him groan when his fist punched the asphalt.
Then Damon tried another technique. He leaned forward and forced his lips on Mayas. Maya tried to push him away but he was too heavy. So Maya bit the the others lip hard and soon felt the weight lifted off his body...
"He bit me! How dare you?!"
"Damon, damon, you're out of control, calm down okay? You don't want another one added to your record right? Just calm down."
"He bit me!"
Elias had trouble holding onto him.
"He deserves pain! He shouldn't have messed with me in the first place!"
"CALM THE FUCK DOWN, DAMON!"
And Damon listened.
"YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TOUCHED HIM! You cannot force others against their will! Go home!"
"I helped you all those years. I stood by you. Watched you fall and lifted you up again. And how do you show me your appreciation? You yell at me??"
"Damon, what you did was wrong. You can't just bring up the old stuff. You haven't been yourself for a while. You've changed."
"I let you cry in my arms when your mom died. I held you. I supported you. And you? You just stabbed me with a knife."
"I don't need you. In fact, no one needs you. I bet your sisters could get through life so much easier without you in it. Just step into the footsteps of your mom. No one needed her either." With those words he spit Elias in his face, turned around and walked away.
Elias looked over his shoulder. Maya was still there. He must have heard everything.
He walked over to him and offered him a hand.
"Are you okay?"
"I could ask you the same thing."
Elias nodded awkwardly and watched Maya take his hand so he could help him up.
"Where are you going now?"
"Home. It's a bit of a way, so I should get going."
"Right", Elias said.
Both males turned to their direction but then Elias called out for the other.
"Maya isn't it?"
Maya nodded.
"My home isn't far. It's just a some minutes around the block. It's comfy and warm. We could get to know each other."
To be completely honest, Maya was thankful for not having to walk home for an hour. Ubers were too expensive.
"Fine okay. Lead the way."
"How did you learn to be so chill when people act that way towards you. And how come you weren't scared, I almost shit my pants."
"I've had a quite rough childhood. You learn how to pick up a thing or two. You just get used to it and after a while you aren't scared anymore."
"How old are you actually?"
"23. You?"
"22", Elias said.
The sidewalk got thinner over time, the city less busy.
Then they stood in front of a dark trail where not even the moonlight could shine through.
"You have the choice. Do you want the short but slippery, dark way or the long but secure way where you can see where you're going?
Maya grinned.
"Okay, don't say I didn't warn you. Watch for your feet."
Elias went first and the boy behind him had trouble seeing his outline through the darkness. He couldn't even see his legs moving as he looked down. He tried to reach for Elias but slipped and felt a quick hand on his waist.
"I told you to watch your feet. It's slippery."
"I can't even see them."
"I warned you", Elias said laughing.
"I don't even see you", Maya said.
"I'm right here", Elias let go of Mayas waist and grabbed his hand instead.
"Wh-what are you doing?"
"I know the way, you don't. We're almost there, just follow me, okay?"
Maya found that explanation good enough. Also.. he felt safe holding his hand. He would never admit but darkness always kind of, well, scared him. It was stupid, Maya thought. Someone like him, he had been through bad times. Worse than this. Why would the dark scare him? Guess he'd never know. Him being deep in his thoughts but then suddenly tightening the grip on Elias' hand as something rustled, close to him.
"What was that?"
"Probably just an insect."
Mayas stomach gave weird vibes.
Another rustle.
"Elias?", Maya held his hand tighter.
"It's just some bird, don't worry. There is light, look", Maya looked straight, "there is my home, okay?" Maya nodded and felt sweat forming on his forehead.
Elias could hear him panting quietly as they finally pulled out of the dark trail and the other let go of his hand.
"Are you sure you're okay? This didn't seem as the best idea."
"I'm great."
"Come on, let's get you inside. Be careful tho, my younger sisters are sleeping."
Elias opened the door and set up some hot water. "Tea?"
