The Hero’s Rage - Chapter 3

Hero is fighting with villain, lover is off to side of battlefield. Villain is wearing jet black trench coat-like jacket with black plate armor underneath with dark red highlights. Its a fierce battle, flashes and blood from close calls coming from both sides. Finally, after what seems like an eternity to the lover but was merely seconds, its over. The villain is laying on the ground, a nasty gash across his chest, the Hero over him. The villain managed one more curse through gasped breathes and blood stained teeth and then lay dead. It was over. She ran to him and threw her arms around the hero. "You did it, you did it its finally over!" She cried in elation. The Hero didnt embrace her like she had to him, she pulled back and looked at him questioningly. He turned to her, "So it is." He said. The next thing she knew, there was a burning sensation in her chest, she looked down to see his golden sword protruding from where her heart was. She fell back, her eyes filled with all the questions she couldnt voice. The Hero's image flickered, the facade dropped at once and there, in front of her, was a dark cloaked man. The sword in her chest now wicked and black. Her eyes dulled as she hit the ground, staring at the sky still processing what happened. The blue topaz necklace the Hero had gotten for her now laid broken next to her. "Your embrace was wonderful, if only for a moment." Retorted the villain. "He's rather selfish for keeping it all to himself, tsk tsk tsk." Then she heard a yell, primal and savage as though the person it came from never had been touched by civilization. She struggled to turn her head to see the Hero, Her Hero standing in the pass, a wild, feral fire burning in his eyes. The villain, someone that killed because they enjoyed it, flinched when he saw the Hero. The Hero, in one bounding motion, was in front of the villain with such ferocity and rage that when he swung his sword it sent the villain flying into the cliff wall on the other side. He knelt down and took his lover up in his arms, saying nothing, just mouthing things he wished he could find his voice to say. "Its ok." She said as she reached her hand and put it on his cheek. "No, no no no, this cant be, i cant live without you, you cant be dying." He managed to get out with a cracking voice. "You've made me so happy since we met. No matter what, im always happy and warm inside when im with you. I dont know what these feelings are but you're the only one that makes me feel this way." She managed to whisper with more conviction than anything the Hero has said in his life. "Me too, i feel that way whenever you're around, so you cant leave me. Please dont go." The Hero begged, tears now filling his eyes. She shook her head, reached up with the last of her strength, took his face in her hands and kissed him. Then she fell back against the ground, all the life gone from her body. Darkness covered the Hero's eyes, he laid her gently down, and stands up with his fists clenched, dimensional tears popping up now as the rage that surged through him fueled his power. Millions of dimensions intersecting exactly where he was, this time though, other heroes didnt come, villains walked through, lending him their power and rage. His armor turned a sickening black mixed with blue, his eyes now visible, afire with only the thought of the complete annihilation of his enemy in front of him. Only one hero stepped through the millions of rifts filled with villains. She stepped out and walked to the now lifeless body of his lover, kneeled down and started to prepare some magic. The villain, now recovered, revealed the look of elation and pure, unadulterated evil at the sight of the Hero going berserk and losing all sense of who he once was. In one lunge they were crossing swords with such ferocity and power that the cliff walls shook with each swing, threatening to fall with each blow. They fought, rage and bloodlust driving them both. They matched each other, blow by blow, swing by swing. Clangs, slashes, blood spraying as they tore each other to pieces. The Hero a faint reflection of someone he once was, the villain, grinning evilly as he sunk his sword through his opponent with every swing and step. They both bounced back, staring, blood dripping from both of them, both breathing heavily. "Lets end it here." The villain suggested in a voice that didnt sound human anymore. The Hero didnt flinch or react but gathered all his power to fling himself as fast and hard as he could. The villain's grin of malice grew ever larger, he knew the Hero wouldnt dodge or try anything but a head on assault, not anymore at least. Nothing moved, all was still, until they lunged simultaneously, the Hero pulling his sword back and the villain swinging down to meet him. "No!" The plea shot through the canyon. It pierced the pain, hate, and vengeance clouding the Hero. The split second before he met the villain, he ducked, dodging the villain's sword narrowly and swinging upward now, cleaving the villain's torso from his legs. "No way..." were the villains last words as he fell, one piece one way and the other, the other way. The black subsided from the Hero's armor and the dark blue hue returned, he turned, slowly for fear of what he might see. Suddenly, there she was, standing in the setting sun, more beautiful than he had ever seen her look before, the blue necklace now fully fixed and safely around her collar, the hero that was healing her already gone. He dropped his sword and ran to her, he fell to his knees and wrapped his arms completely around her, sobbing uncontrollably. She just smiled and petted his head. "Its ok, its ok, ill never leave you again, i promise." She reassured him, tears forming in her eyes now as he let everything that was left of his rage, out as tears. She went down to her knees and held him, both now crying, they stayed like that until the sun was almost down. Finally the Hero broke from the embrace, looked at her again and then over at the body of the villain. They both stood up and walked over to it, hand in hand. He was dead, there was no doubt about it. Nobody couldve survived something that absolute. The Hero suddenly swept her off her feet and crouched low as if he was going to try to jump out of the canyon. Then, thats exactly what he did, in one bound they were standing on top of the canyon where his horse was waiting. "A little power left over from the fight." He assured her. Then he helped her up onto the horse while giving her a kiss on the cheek, hopped on himself and they headed off, back towards home as the sun set behind them.
