"My dear big padded jacket, could you move a bit? You're pressing down on my fabric," Su Wanyu said smilingly as she pushed him.
"Right, wife, there are two pieces of dark-colored fabric here. When you get a chance, make cotton shawls for mom and dad; it can be our little token of affection."
"Sure, I'll do as you say."
With the sewing machine, Su Wanyu spent less than a week making cotton clothes for the entire family.
After dinner, Jiang Changhai, holding two new shawls, handed them over to Zhang Guihua in front of the whole family.
"Dad, mom, these are the cotton shawls your son and daughter-in-law offer to you with respect; they're made from new cotton, both light and soft. Try them on, see if they fit well."
Zhang Guihua, smiling until her eyes nearly disappeared, took the cotton shawls and held them, looking and feeling them: "You, my boy, do have a conscience, knowing how to honor your mom and dad."
