Chapter 2: Breaking waves

Lin and Emica was in elementary when they first met. Emica was the boldest between two of them from their childhood to later.

They studied at the same school, learned almost everything what their school offered, from the common interest and fellowship, day by day they became a good friend.

Both of them always compete with each other with everything. It's a healthy lifestyle, way to improve each other without having any kind of personal vendetta or jealousy. Both of them was like that. They were each others protege anyone could easily say that.

Emica wasn't the one who restrain herself from anything she likes to do for trial without any hesitations but on the other hand, Lin was quite reticent. She hate the facts of doing anything unknowingly, very considerate.

From that kind of fearlessness in one stormy day that happened what can be expected, which now, it can be said.

That day, weather forecasters already alarmed all the civilians about the storm that was going to charge on Tokyo. Everyone was back to their place, some to their safety shelters and Lin too back to her home, Emica came back to Lin to stay with her at that stormy weather.

Lin was an orphan girl sort of. Both of her parents died in road accidents when she was only 9 years old, no grandparents or relatives to take of her, so was living on their home alone from the age of nine, Government helped her with child care and support to grow up the adolescent age, luckily because of she had a house and rest of other belongings, inherited from her parents. Still now she feels grateful to her parents for being a responsible parents or else she could be end up in orphanage. That's why, Emica came to rescue her from her feral life at that disastrous time.

However, that day Emica had her own fate to write, for some reason, she was impatient about the whole sitting duck idea. She wasn't ready to stay for hours in home for safety shelter but she was extremely excited about the upcoming storms, she even wanted to watch the storm on the beach, how the waves and shores dances their duets. Except Lin, she wasn't ready for such an extravagance, she completely banned the idea of leaving the house.

Weather casters said from 3PM the storms going to strike us but there was not even any air on that area, not even any leaf of a single tree was moving.

After few hours of waiting with all the calmness for a storm as a result of boredom, Emica lost her all the patience, she gave Lin the clever idea to ride a bicycle with her on that evening. Lin was at first very terrified with her wildest thoughts but later even she got bored and leave the home with her for an hour of entourage.

They enjoyed their small hangout moments, it was memorable for rest of Lin's life. They rode to make a competition with each other, the whole area seemed evacuated, they saw likewise them, few small shop stayed halfway open, from shops like those, an icecream van was there too, still not back to shelter, waiting for the storm, outside of it's shop. They took their icecream from it then back to the beach nearby bridge.

It was such a beautiful evening, the beach was looking like a sunbathe for a moment, sun was playing with clouds, breeze of air on their naked cheeks and thighs, icecream in their hands of their own choice. Riding their bicycle slowly but smoothly, giggling, chit chatting with each other on the yellowish brown reflective water. The water was glittering like a sparkling precious crystals of diamonds. Beautiful was the only word that could came up to mind.

All of a sudden, Emica came up with another idea to take a little swim on the beach, she was very sportier indeed. Lin forbid her from her fearful passion but she didn't listened. Emica might be alive if only she should have listened at that time only. For a few minutes, not more than that she could say, out of wilderness, she ran to the restless waves for swim.

That's the last words she could only said before leaving her alone for rest of her life.

The beach was empty that day, no signs of human anywhere only both of them.

She went to swim with her top and thigh size pants and never came back. Just before Lin's eyes within a second or any sounds from Emica of struggle to swim, the water took her to it's deepest warmth.

Nature didn't give Emica any chance to even beseeched for her life.

At that time of her life, she felt the most helpless woman in her life, not even her parents death make her like that.

When she understood that she wasn't going to see Emica any more. She was standing there with her helpless hands, crying like a endless stream coming from her eyes. Couldn't even rescue her, where was she, where could she dive to rescue her, all was she seeing, was high waves breaking each other, all of a sudden, heavy clouds made the beach blueish in a moment after Emica went to swim.

Lin took her cycle and started to went back for a help for Emica to rescue but alas! No one had the heart to find her from the chest of the wide big ocean in that storm.

That night was the most horrified night for Lin. No one left to hold on to. No one was there to give her any sort of comfort or empathy for her loss.

Just she and her beloved wild friend's only memory.

Idiot, yes idiosyncratic behaviour indeed, made Emica lose her valuable life for rest of her existence.

Who was there to blame for her own mistakes? She knew there was a strong storm coming towards, water of beach was full with stressful currents, no one could have guessed with assurance of safety for survival in any rate then, how could she? The momentary enjoyment turned into a endless misery. No one to blame for her own foolishness.

Lin could not accept her own mistakes, how clumsy she was? She was only blaming herself not Emica. She was only thinking, if only could she could have hold into her with her strong hands, probably Emica still giggling with her.

Emotional malfeasance is the worst of all. It is eating her alive. The depth of agony and despair, the uselessness, calmly inundating her. Separating her from everything that prolongs.

She began to depressingly frustrated with her life, loneliness was killing her without her own ignorance of acknowledgement. Nature is taking everything from her whatever she is loving.

The night of that festival, she was thinking about Emica and all those things that were happened and happening within her.

Lin reached to her destination, she then came across to a beachside free space where chairs and tables are set to hangouts for any public, barbecue grills are onside, in a distance there is a bar for drinks or icecream. She just put down her dinner on the table and walk to the bar for icecream and drink. When she get back to her table she sees a man is sitting backward on her table. For a second she jumps back when he care to turn his head and see her what she is doing then she immediately recognizes him, it is none other than Oliver east sitting on her table then she calm her fears. Greet him cordially and sit back to her dinner.

The night is young, so as they, the light of the beach making the atmosphere attractive and romantic, light air, mild sea waves breaking into the shores upfront views in the glamorous dark moonlight night and him sitting by her side.

He is very sincerely silent person while she greeted him on her table, he said nothing as an additional part of his being coincidentally there, on her table.

Moreover, he was checking out his mobile, seemed busy. Whence, she offers him a share of her dinner, he accept her offers, thank her for the generosity and dine with her.

Lin is starting to know who is Oliver east, he is a salaried man, an overseas architect from USA, staying here for work.

Their small hangout moment make both of them on ease. Likewise, he walks her to home, the change of daily life is feeling nice to both of them. Both of them exchange their own private number and call off for that day. He is still carrying his manga with him that he purchased from her shop.

Her sadness is lenient for the day, feeling pleasant of doing great in her work that day, knowing Oliver east as a client then a man to become a good hangout buddy is not that bad at all, to end a busy day with a slightly pleasurable smile on her face.
