Emotionless and Awakening

He felt like a fool

Staring off into the distance, he turned away from the girl conversing beside him.

Nothing happened…

Shirou felt a strange sensation. It was as if a heavy rock had been lifted off of his chest, and he was finally able to breath again.

Despite this, he felt more empty than he ever had before.

Am I overreacting?

He didn't know what to feel.

Maybe he had just imagined his other life.

Or am I being ungrateful?

Shirou was shocked by this thought he just produced. A familiar feeling wrapped it's way around his brain.

Why do I feel this way...My emotions...feel so fake.

A jab to his rib cage pushed him back into reality.

"Hey. I'm talking to you."

It was the new girl.

Her name is Kanashi.

"Hey!"

This must be it. We're going to d-

Sakusei was smiling brightly.

Huh?

"Kanashi?!"

The person, who was a small girl, jumped on to Sakusei. Sakusei was taken off-guard, but managed to stay upright.

"It's been a while, huh," Sakusei said enthusiastically, patting the young girl's head.

The girl was very short, at least 8 inches shorter than Shirou was, with dark black hair and deep blue eyes.

She looked over at Shirou, still clung to Sakusei.

"Who's he?" She said, as if she was below him.

"Someone I found on the streets."

The small girl detached herself from Sakusei and walked up to him. She stared directly into his eyes, as if she was searching for something.

What is this feeling?

Staring back into her eyes, he felt a deep sense of similarity.

"Hello?" Sakusei waved a hand in between their faces.

Shirou had become unaware of how long they had actually been staring at each other for.

"You're strange. I don't like you," the girl said, pulling her face away from his.

He was then introduced to a new feeling. Annoyance.

I don't like you either.

"Shirou, this is Kanashi. Kanashi, this is Shirou. Get along please," Sakusei said, sensing some sort of dislike between them.

"Fine," Kanashi said, rolling her eyes.

Shirou stayed silent, not knowing what to say in these situations.

"Anyways, why don't we go eat dinner?"

They walked through the colorfully lit city for a few minutes, and eventually ended up at a small restaurant on the corner of a street.

A jab to ribs jolted Shirou out of his thoughts.

"Hey. I'm talking to you."

Shirou looked over at Kanashi, completely silent.

"Did you not hear me or something? Why are you with Sakusei?!"

She practically yelled her last statement, causing everyone around them to look in their direction.

"Sorry…" She mumbled under her breath.

They sat in silence for a few minutes until Shirou decided on what to say.

"I..do not know why I am here," he said in a quiet, emotionless voice.

"What is that supposed to mean?" She said, noticeably annoyed. She stared at him, the same look as earlier, that screamed "I'm above you."

Her eyes burned into his skull.

Please…just stop.

After about 30 seconds, he worked up the courage to say something.

"I don't know how else to answer your question."

She looked disgusted.

"What's wrong with you?! Why do you look so lifeless and dull! Why are you so…so....emotionless."

She said that last word as if she was about to start crying.

"...I don't know how to show emotion. Please tell me. What should I be feeling right now," Shirou said, eyes glued to the ground.

Her face twisted into anger, and she scoffed spitefully as she walked out of the restaurant.

Tears were flowing down her face.

"Damn it," Sakusei cursed under her breath, giving Shirou a look of disappointment.

Did I do something wrong?

Dazed and confused, Shirou was left in the booth of the restaurant as Sakusei rushed after Kanashi.

Shirou wandered around aimlessly, searching for Sakusei and Kanashi.

The city felt quite different without the company of another person.

Where are they?

He continued his confused wandering until he seemed to have made it to the center of the city.

It was massive. Gigantic electronic screens covered the buildings, and instead of walking around on foot, the crowds of people were carried by escalator-esc machinery. Shirou felt utterly tiny. He searched the crowds, looking for any familiar faces, when a huge group of military armor-clad men rushed their way through the crowd. Shirou stared at them as they walked by, but paid no thought to them.

After a couple more minutes of wandering, he found himself in front of a gigantic screen with a large crowd. The news seemed to be playing, so Shirou moved closer to hear better, in hopes he would get some information on where he was.

"There has been a sighting of the infamous criminal, known for inciting the uprising against the international government 10 years ago. I repeat, there has been a sighting of the criminal who started the uprising 10 years ago. Do not interfere. She shall be executed in accordance with national law."

Shirou stared up at the screen in horror.

It was Sakusei.

He ran.

And ran.

And ran.

Please. Let me make it in time.

Desperately, he ran.

This is all because of me. I made Kanashi run out.

He stumbled, smacking his face off the ground.

Get up.

He continued running, blood flowing into his eye from the cut on his forehead.

He ran and ran, until he came upon a crowd.

Pushing his way through. He broke through the wall of people, and into the center.

Rage.

Pure rage was all he felt.

It was the armored men. One man had Sakusei pushed up against a wall, choking her. Another had had a foot firmly planted on Kanashi's back. The rest of them had guns pointed at their heads, ready to pull the trigger.

One thought was in his head

I'll kill you all.
