By the end of 23rd century, Earth civilization reached high technological level, while facing serious social problems. Resources became scarce following humanity growing in number five times in comparison to early 21st century. Despite scientists coming with various ways to save the world, including colonization efforts, degradation continued. Number one candidate for colonizing - Mars - required 300 years to be fully terraformed and only selected people could live under domes. Humanity needed a more solid plan - one that would bring results and bring them sooner. Following continuous surveys of space systems, a planet similar to Earth has been found - two times bigger than humanity's home, this new discovery was a true breakthrough. However, more detailed researched showed that about 20% of the planet is taken by an alien megacity surrounded by a powerful force field. New information caused a huge uproar among scientists involved, especially after no signs of life encountered and no response to various means of communication. After several years of observation, the city was considered abandoned. Having analyzed the data, numerous governments agreed on a joint effort to send and expedition to reveal the turth about the city and establish the very first colony on that planet. With the biggest ship made of five modules, over 5,000 strong crew set off on most important mission in humanity's history. John Marlow, a scientific officer and one of many deployed for the expedition, sets on a journey which will challenge his knowledge about the Universe and humankind's origin.

The New Gaia

Since reaching the New Gaia, number of abnormal events keeps rising.


We went through sabotages and natural disasters, and now we even have dead people walking around, as if nothing happened.


Well, at least how it looks, since their brains are no longer theirs. Still, it's a fact that anyone can be replaced by some kind of energy signature, becoming a threat to everyone else.


Fortunately, we have means of defending against this unusual entity, though no one managed to learn about these entities' origins.


While that is the case, one thing remains clear to me - those who previously lived on this planet had knowledge of this phenomenon as devices we were finding so far seem all to have precautions allowing blockage of specific energy ranges.


Based on what I learned so far, they had a really good understanding of electromagnetism, and apparently managed to make the best use of its traits, both for energy production and safety measures, including creation of barriers, among which the megacity barrier is the biggest and the strongest we know about - even though we still may come upon something unknown on the way.


Either way, subsequent events we are encountering are both worrying and exciting, and I honestly hope we can figure things out sooner or later. After all, who knows when balance between worrying and exciting gets broken, and only worrying is left, or even evolves into horrifying?


Thankfully, all these hardships we went through ended up with reuniting with some old friends. I might have been egoistic for most of my life, but right now I understand better than ever that humans' strength comes not only from individual intelligence, but also in combining numerous individuals' qualities.


Recent reunion gives us hope that things are slowly changing for the better, even if there is still a lot to come for us.
