In all seriousness though

"Rosie" helps me up from the ground. The cuffs stay on, only because they don't want me to run away. She pulls out a needle, the same one she had used on me earlier, and says if I try to do it again, she'll put me back to sleep.

I'm doubting her speed response, when the fast boy appears next to her in literal seconds.

Scoffing, I agree.

Rosie leads the way, stopping in front of cemented gates. Typing in a keycode, the gates creak open, a puff of dust wafting over to us, making me sneeze.

"Sorry about that Laney, these gates aren't what they use to be." Rosie said, wiping off dust from her face. I shrugged, the boy a step behind me.

Rosie stopped, turning on her heel to face me. "How rude of me. Laney, this boy that was able to stop your attack is Leo. He is, as you can already tell, a fast powered person. He's working with us to stop Casmir, and Jabez."

It felt like my heart stopped; I froze in my spot.

"H-how do you know Casmir?" I choked out.

Rosie noticed the way I was acting, frowning a bit. "Please, follow us this way. I can answer every question you have."

I kept up with her, watching her lead us through a darkened hallway. Very dim light was given so I could only see Rosie walking and nothing else. I could hear the boy's sneakers squeak against the tiled floor, him humming a bit.

We stopped at a double metal doors, a touch screen softly glowing on the right side of it. Rosie placed her hand on it, a red scanner scanning it, before a click was heard, and the doors opened.

She stepped in, lights flicking on. My eyes gazed at what appeared as a mini-computer lab. Three rows of computers were laid out horizontally, a person seated at each computer.

As I looked up, a wall was filled with monitors, each monitor having a picture of Casmir, or Jabez.

An elderly man popped up more than once. He had gray hair, a beard, and a moustache, thick glasses making his gray eyes bigger than they were. Some photos of him had David posed next to him as well.

His name, Elias Winthur, was plastered with danger and exclamation points.

This must have been the mentor that had betrayed David.

I jumped as someone grabbed my hand, taking the cuffs off of me. Leo gave me a grim nod, light brown hair covering his blue eyes. He was pale, like he had never seen the sun before, wearing a baggy black hoodie and fraying gray sweatpants. He had on scuffed dark blue sneakers, the laces blackened from use. He wasn't very tall, maybe standing at 5'5, not looking a day over sixteen.

"Thanks." I said, rubbing my wrists.

"No problem." He replied, taking a step back.

"As you can see, Laney, David isn't the only on who has been monitoring the situation at hand. Now that Jabez is on the run, we've been trying to devise a plan that will lead in her capture, and hopefully will cease in this attack." Rosie explained, gazing back at the screens.

"What do you need me for?" I asked.

"Well, you see Laney, one of our gifted was able to trace you. Casmir has been in talks with you more than once. We wanted to speak with you, but when it looked like you might disappear from under our noses, some...force was needed to be used."

I arched an eyebrow at her, and a faint blush colored her cheeks.

"Sorry about that by the way." She replied.

"No worries; Silk took a chunk out of you, so I guess we're kind of even." I said, smiling a bit. She flinched.

"Where is my dog, anyway?" I asked.

"We haver her in one of the rooms where we'll hope you will stay at. She's a bit...aggressive at the moment, so yeah." She looked away, a bit nervous.

I cracked my knuckles, feeling a bit anxious.

"How can I help?" I asked instead.

"We're hoping the next time you dream, we can possibly monitor what's going on in there," she lightly tapped the side of my head with her finger, "so we can let him know that this was a big misunderstanding."

"But what about the people with powers that are being chipped and killed? Are we going to help them?"

"We'll get to that, Laney, I promise. Our main focus now is stopping Casmir from destroying the world as we know it."

"Why hasn't he done it? Does he even have the power to? Like, I've never seen or heard of him? Maybe he's bluffing; maybe this is all a game to him." Leo said, crossing his arms over his chest.

I turned to look at him, taking a step towards him. Leo looked a bit uncomfortable, but didn't move or step down.

"I've talked to him. More than once. If not for his daughter for some reason being stuck on this planet, and not being able to go back home, he'd be here. Destroying this planet just because...he's dangerous Leo. Not someone I'd want to fight with."

This time I glanced at Rosie instead. "I don't think there's a super on earth that can take him down."

Rosie and Leo said nothing as I stepped away from the both of them.

I was directed to my room by one of the guards, Silk's barks and growls echoing out through the hallways.

Opening the door, I was tackled to the ground as Silk licked my face, tail wagging happily. I let out a laugh, hugging and petting her soft fur.

It was great to be reunited with my dog once more. Hopefully this would be more permanent.

I stepped inside the room, closing the door behind me. A twin bed was pushed into the corner of the rumor, lavender blankets folded neatly on top, thick pillows topping it. A desk was across from it, with a chair with wheels on it, a lamp placed on it, a laptop with notebooks next to it. There was a red pencil cup brimming with pens and pencils.

Taking a seat on the edge of the bed, I sighed.

Not many options were left for me if I was being honest. If this was the only way I could help save the earth then so be it. I'd have to cut the ties between David and I, even Zach.

Because they were on one side of the team, whereas I was on the other.

It hurt to think of it this way, but so far, David had been behaving rather sketchy as of the last moments. And he managed to rope Rowan into this, which meant she too I would have to cut off at the moment. I flopped back on the bed, hands dragging through my hair.

This was getting worse and worse by the second.
