Chapter Thirteen

Emira

I have no idea how long time has passed, but it feels long and the only progress that we have made has been a small crack in the floor where all the chains are connected, and some minor burns from the chains. I haven't told anyone, but the only way we are getting out of here is when the Salem Coven comes back for me. I know that they would argue with me, but I asked Ben telepathically and he nodded. It seems not even the magic of these chains can take away my telepathy nor Ben's visions. Our best chance out of here is when they come back. I already have a plan. I take a deep breath and prepare for the arguments that are about to take place.

"Guys, I have a plan. But none of you are going to like it." If possible, the tension in the group increases. "Even if we can get out of these chains, there is no guarantee that we can even open the door. So, if all of us get out of our chains, but pretend that we are still chained up, The Salem Coven won't notice anything when they come for me. That is when we strike and we escape. Don't fight me on this because it is the best plan that we have." Silence echoes against the walls of the chamber. I look at all of them with confidence and that look that says fight me I dare you. They all nod, slowly and very hesitantly. "Good. Cause I have an idea on how to get out of these chains." I scoot closer to the main connection of chains in the middle of the room slightly bewildered. I had expected some arguments, but the fact that everyone stayed quiet meant that they weren't deluding themselves. This is our only way out. "The chains are slowly losing their magic and I think that I can push my magic through them and that will break their spell completely. But it will hurt you, Kal. And if we make even a sound, they will come back and stop us." Silence. It echoes. My friends turn to each other. Seconds go by and no one reacts. I look at Kalum, his face displays a tremendous amount of courage. He nods. I nod back and take a deep breath. "This will hurt. I am so sorry." I push my magic with all of my power. Pink mist seeps out of the cracks in the chains around my hands. Kalum grunts and tenses as the lightning starts to come from his chains. I push harder and watch as the magic travels down my chain and split when it comes into contact with the other chains. It crawls up to my friends' chains and wraps around their manacles. They sigh collectively and I pull my magic back. All around the room, small sparks of different colors dance around my friends' hands.

"You did it!" Natsu exclaims as she watches the flames dancing on her fingertips and smiles somewhat maniacally.

"Kal?" I ask. He breathes heavily but looks up at me, a proud smile playing on his lips. I smile and watch the pink mist swirling around the metal cases surrounding my hands. Footsteps echo outside of our door. Guys! Hide your magic. And your hands! All the magic is snuffed out and silence fills the room. The only sound is the key turning as they unlock the door. Adham walks through with two burly men behind him. Before I can do anything, Adham throws his hand forwards. In his hand is a black fist-sized heart that beats. He aims it at me and the heart glows. I open my mouth to speak but is cut off by black lightning shooting out of the heart and striking my chest. A blood-curdling scream echoes through the chamber. With a start, I realize that it is coming from me. The lightning spreads and covers my entire body. I squirm and spasm, falling over onto my back. My friends jump into action. Eddie and Ben take down one of Adham's men and Natsu and Hanna take down the other one. Kalum kicks the black heart out of Adham's hands, cutting off the lightning. Stella shoots her golden magic straight at Adham's face. He falls backward and lands on top of his men, unconscious. She turns back to me and helps me to my feet. She looks me over, searching for any sign of damage from the lightning. But there is nothing other than my increased heavy breathing. I nod at her and push my magic through my chains to break them apart. They fall to the ground in a million tiny pieces.

"Let's get out of here. Before back up comes." Jake says. We nod and file out of the dark chamber. Kalum walks out last and closes the door behind us, locking Adham and his men behind it. He grabs my hand and hurries after the rest of the group. Together we turn right and race down the tunnel. When we come upon a staircase, we stop. I look behind us and, to my horror, hear angry voices and hurried footsteps coming down the tunnel.

"Run! Up the stairs!" I scream and everyone runs up the stairs at full speed. A flash of red brightens the path in front of us and heat assaults my senses. Natsu is at the front, sending her flaming red magic into a door at the top of the stairs. The door is thrown off its hinges and crashes to the ground on the opposite side of the street that we come out to. The entire world freezes. We stand in a group, ready to fight. But the people on the street stare at us. By the auras surrounding each of the civilians, they are witches, members of the Salem Coven. The footsteps behind us stop as the Salem Coven Fifteen spew out of the door that we just came through. Led by Adham. He snarls at us.

"Attack."
