Chapter Sixteen

Kalum

I take Emira’s hand as we sit down on the steps that lead to the crowded Headquarters. We spent the last two hours planning and I was itching to get out of there the second that I saw that Emira was okay. The sun has just dawned so I dragged Em outside. Now she is leaning her head on my shoulder, her side is pressed against mine and I have my arm wrapped around her. The sun’s warm, golden glow settles on us and I close my eyes, letting the rest of the world fade. For a second, I don’t care. About the Salem Coven, about the black heart. About anything. Other than the fact my soulmate is next to me, safe and happy. But of course, the feeling can’t last. The doors open behind us and the sound of the fifteen jolts us out of the euphoric bliss that the sun’s rays provide.

“Hey, lovebirds!” Jake jokes, quickly followed by a grunt as Hanna plants an elbow in his side.

“Please ignore my idiot boyfriend.” She says sweetly. I chuckle.
