Chapter 6. Walk right into a trap

"Stop it!" Ariel screamed as Bellona and the others shook their heads. Ava was sure that she was minutes away from attacking Rodna so she was glad that Ariel broke in when she did.

"This isn't going to solve anything!"

"She's right," Zachleya agreed as Ava huffed.

"Look the best thing to do now is to get back home,"Reina suggested.

"Yeah, Rodna do you know the way back in? I mean, if Paige made an exit she must have an entrance somewhere in the walls," Bellona added.

"Well, yes but...."

"Forget about the monsters Rodna, maybe in a few years you could try this again without us but not now, we need to get back before we get Mary and Dory in trouble."

Ava nodded in agreement, seriously no one wanted to go treking through a strange place looking for a monster that killed women.

Rodna pouted but nodded before trudging onwards. They all followed silently and clutched their coats tightly.

The night was cold outside here and every once in a while they would hear a snap in the forest but none of them dared to say anything. Honestly, they were all just scared of what they might find if they went exploring. The walk was taking forever but Ava just wanted to go home to my soft bed and warm sheets.

It was quiet until Reina broke their silence.

"Isn't it strange that there aren't any ruins here?" Reina asked as they all stopped to see her glance around the place.

"What do you mean?" Ariel asked with confusion.

"Well, there was a battle outside here right? So there should at least be some old bullets, spears or craters around the wall or claw marks made by the monsters. I mean, we have heard that they should be trying to get into the Realm but we've not seen anything like that since we've been out here."

Rodna nodded, "You're right. There should be some evidence out here being left behind because really, monsters wouldn't know how to tidy things up."

"Unless something else was out here with the monsters," Ariel suggested with a grim face.

They all looked to Bellona who sighed tiredly,"Let's just go girls. I really just want to go home and get to bed so just stop with the monster talks."

Ava shrugged and moved onward with Zachleya following closely behind with the rest. Rodna seemed interested in Reina's observation so she and her continued to discuss but in low whispers. Everything was going well until Bellona stepped on a tree branch that instantly rose over them and covered them in a flash of blue light.

Zachleya shrieked and backed up only to get electrocuted in the back.

"Great! Of all things to happen to us, we walk right into a trap!" Bellona yelled sarcastically.

Struggling in a cage of electronic charged rods was not comfortable because every time Ava tried to touch the rods, she got painfully electrocuted,"Ouch!"

"Why does this keep happening to us?!"Reina screamed as she ran a hand through her hair with irritation. Areil was feeling the same, why is it that bad things were happening to them now?!

Everything was going perfect in their lives but now it was just ,all kinds of messed up.

"Someone up there clearly doesn't like us,"Zachelya huffed as she glared at the starlit sky above them.

Bellone blew out an annoyed breath,"That's true."

"Umm ladies? Not to point out the obvious but could someone please answer my question first before we go on ranting about the unfairness of life?" Ariel asked as Ava turned to face her in the cage. Everyone followed suit.

"What is it Ariel?" Rodna inquired.

"If no one has been outside here for Paige knows how long, then who made the cages that we're currently in?"

Bellona paled slightly, who indeed? No one has been outside the walls and this looks like the work of something alive......

She wasn't the only one with such thoughts because Rodna started to examine the trap closely,"Clearly someone or something alive and intelligent."

"Please don't say that! I was really hoping that you weren't going to say that!" Ava pleaded as Bellona turned back to the cage bars.

" Bellona, you have to get us out here!"Ariel shouted as Reina went over to sit near her to calm her down. Zachleya had the same idea as well so she was covered.

"I know, I'm trying, I'm trying," Bellona gritted her teeth as she scanned the cage and even the trees for a way out. Rodna joined her in searching while Ava kept watch.

After an hour of trying to escape, they all settled down in the center of the cage and leaned against each other for support. This had had more to do with them being tired and sleepy, they were all supposed to be in bed and fast asleep anyway instead of being trapped out here outside of their home.

After a few minutes of silence passed, Ava heard it.

Out of every one in their family, Ava's hearing is way more sharper than anyone. Bellona and the girls would always joke about how she would always wake up before their alarm because she could hear the mechanics of the clock clicking before it could ring.

So she was the first to hear what sounded like four engines. Big Vehicles, if she was right or else all those mechanics classes would have been for nothing.

"There's something coming towards us. Four vehicles," Ava spoke up as everyone jerked up from their slumber.

Zachleya looked around,"I don't hear anything."

Ava pursed her lips,"You will."

Oh my Irina!" Ariel exclaimed as they all stood and glanced around frantically to see lights coming in from their left,"What are we going to do? We need to get out of here now!"

"How?! This cage is inescapable! "Rodna concluded as Bellona rubbed a hand over her face.

" So what's the plan?"Reina asked as they watched these four trucks break through the trees and come to a halt beneath us.

"Whatever happens , just run," Bellona instructed as she tightened the sleeves of her coat. They all followed her orders and got ready for whatever was coming for them.
