Chapter 12

Realizing that Vergil was defenseless, the werewolf pounced again. However, Vergil was ready this time. He continued to dodge sideways, hugging wall to wall as items around were becoming victims of collateral damage. The werewolf got angry when it failed to hit Vergil a second time and let out a loud screech, stunning Vergil in place. This shriek was filled with a bloody killing intent that would paralyze anyone who had not seen war.

When Vergil was paralyzed by fear, the werewolf smirked and calmly approached his opponent with the intent of tearing the young man's body apart. When the werewolf's arms were outstretched to slice apart Vergil's body, the paralysis effect that Vergil was demonstrating suddenly disappeared. His eyes switched from one of fear to one filled with disdain. Vergil jumped and forced all his weight onto the wall behind him, using the momentum to propel himself bare handed into the werewolf, pushing the both of them backwards. The werewolf, stunned by the sudden change in Vergil's behavior could not even mouth a word of shock before the back of the head was pierced by the axe affixed into the wall behind him.

The werewolf desperately shrieked, while Vergil received repeated notifications of critical strikes, as he continued ramming his body into the werewolf and causing the axe to split the monster's brain into half. Blood gushed out like a mountain, dyeing both of them red, yet only one remained alive in the encounter. Vergil pushed the corpse of the werewolf to get up, only ten percent of his health remaining, before spitting the bitter blood from his mouth. He grabbed the werewolf by the neck and slammed it into the axe a few more times until its face turned mush and the carcass fell sideways. The wall was laced with blood and gore.

Letting out a deep breath, Vergil grabbed the axe before turning around and finding the box with the mythical fabric thrown to the corner, but unharmed. He grabbed it and put it back into his storage. The secret quest provided by the tailor had been completed and he was awarded enough EXP to level up again to level 3, however, Vergil wasn't happy. This was one of his worst battle experiences despite only being level 2 earlier, or perhaps it was because he was so low leveled. "This quest was never meant to be performed so early game." Vergil muttered to himself in some frustration.

The werewolf slowly dissipated away leaving behind a bunch of drops. Eight silver coins, a bottle of werewolf's blood essence, a werewolf's heart and a pelt. Vergil swiped them all into his storage, but his mind remained contemplative of the werewolf's motivations. Why did it have a mythical item and why did it want to kill Vergil? At that moment, he noticed that a couple of quests had been unlocked for him.

[Quest - Wolf in Sheep's Clothing]

[You have slaughtered a werewolf inhabiting Red Leaf Town in hiding. Report it to the town's mayor.]

[Hidden Quest - Ariadne's Promise]

[You have managed to secure a mythical artifact belonging to a historical figure. Find her history to uncover her past and reveal the secret of the Silk Silver.]

The quest didn't seem to have a grade, but Vergil could immediately fathom that this was not going to be an easy quest, not to mention he had no information about this quest from his past life. Shrugging at the prospect of trouble, Vergil checked if his Nightcrawler cloth set had sustained any damage and came out relieved. While it was only a beginner level set, its rarity and effects had played a vital role in Vergil's ability to dodge the werewolf's attacks. As his health slowly began to recover now that he had left the battle mode, he took a final glance at the tailoring shop, shook his head and left.

The sole tailoring shop in Red Leaf Town was suddenly shut, with no one being able to access it. Many players had gathered at the entrance, wondering how a beginner supply store shut down. The frenzy at the auction house concerning a clothing set as well as the players finally being able to amass some funds to change their clothing and purchase basic equipment led them to this store only to be dumbfounded. They saw Vergil, who was now famous in this town staggering out of the store, his body slowly healing and the tailoring store slowly crumbling behind him and leaving everyone stunned. Vergil gazed at the players with dumbfounded expression from behind his mask and mumbled. "The shop won't open anytime soon." Before walking towards the courthouse.

The scene was duly captured on video and uploaded onto the forum, leading to a wild frenzy. The provocative title "Player Breaks Game! Screw Horizon!" didn't exactly help as people rushed to click on the post and take a look at the video.

"How the heck did the player destroy a store? Why isn't he Red named?"

"It's the same guy who put up that clothing set on auction. Who knows what he did?"

"How am I supposed to purchase clothing equipment now?"

"Horizon, I need a refund for this bug. Reported!"

Vergil also glanced at that forum post and shook his head. He made his way to the courthouse to report to the mayor. Thanks to his improved reputation and familiarity with the mayor he was quickly led into the court hall where the Mayor seemed to be sitting with a troubled expression on his face. When he noticed Vergil appear, his eyes suddenly filled with color as he welcomed the player and motioned him to speak.

Vergil decided not to speak too much. He flung out the werewolf pelt and threw it on the floor of the courthouse, causing all the guards and the mayor to glare at the object with surprise. After waiting for the NPCs to absorb the information in front of them, Vergil sighed and replied. "The tailor."
