Chapter 14

Laura can't imagine having to live with someone like Mira because she is going to be an annoying and silly brat, she prayed Chris will reject her staying and went inside to prepare for work.

She changed her clothes and decide to go to the company which was not part of her schedule for that day.

"mom, are you serious about this? Its absolutely ridiculous" Chris argued not agreeing with his mother's decision to let Mira live in the house with them

"why is it not okay? Why cant Mira stay at live with you here? Since you have decided not to get a maid then you will need someone to help around with some chores" she replied not giving up

"I have someone who comes to clean the house every once in a while and also Laura can take care of other things" he stated

"who is Laura? A spoilt brat who cant do anything on her own, how can I trust her with my son's safety"

"okay mum, don't be dramatic, I've been living here alone for a while. Besides, Mira is not married yet and its inappropriate for her to stay in a man's house" he stressed not giving in

"that's not for you to worry about, remember you promise to do one thing for me if I agree to this marriage, this is what I want from you okay" she said giving him no choice but to agree with her

"okay fine, she can stay here but you pick a room downstairs"

"no problem, I promise I wont bother you at all"

Laura came back and got to know about Mira staying with them, although she wasn't pleased with it but she didn't bother to ask Chris or question him after all, its his house. The both of them buried themselves into work and only see each other at dinner or early in the morning while going to work

Mira will always wait at the dinner to serve Chris and act as the owner of the house also flaunt in front of her, about her relationship with Chris and how close they are but she never bothered and will even smile at her sometimes.

The execution of the project had begun and Laura became more busy than before that she has to work overnight coupled with other new projects

She finished working at about 7 in the evening, closed her computer then stood up to leave when she noticed that Clara was nowhere to be found. She called her name a few times without an any answer then she went out of the office to the first floor to check with the security if she already left the building or not

"have you seen Clara?" she asked the secretary at the first floor

"no ma'am I haven't seen her this evening" she answered and returned to her work.

Laura move away from there and decide to leave first but remembered that she had dropped her phone while trying to call Clara and went back to get it. She got to her office and noticed a strange sound coming from Clara's office so she walk towards it to check if its her.

Just as she was about to get there, Avan suddenly came out and pull her back, she was startled and lat out a yell trying to hit whoever it is that just grabbed her

"its me, calm down" Avan purred trying to shush her. She stopped yelling as she recognize his voice

"why are you talking like that? And what the hell are you doing here?" she asked in a whisper

"I..I.. just wanted to see you so I came-by" he lied stuttering

"came to see me? Seriously? You except me to believe that?" she asked again in disbelieve

"okay fine, lets sit first then we can talk" he said trying to buy time for himself and think of an answer to give her. The both of them went into her office and sat down

"tell me, how long have you been here and why?" she questioned folding her hands

"why are you acting like this? Is there any other reason for a boyfriend to come see his girlfriend?" he said trying to divert the question

"boyfriend? We broke up remember" she replied sarcastically

"you know I was angry then and I have every right to be. You threw our long time relationship away just for a business and your reputation" he argued

"then you should have helped me when I was struggling, you always have one excuse or the other whenever I ask you out" she shot at him

"okay, lets calm down and not get all worked up or we will end up fighting again" he pleaded not wanting to have another screaming match with her.

He's just trying to help Clara get out of the office and cover up their relationship. Thankfully he was able to hear her voice earlier if not, she would have caught the both of them and that will bring him a lot of trouble

"when will you get a divorce with him?" he asked suddenly

"I don't know yet,I need to focus on the company and some pressing projects" she shrugged

Avan move closer to her and held her hands affectionately then move his hands on her hand softly and in a lovely way

"you know I love you and will always do, I was angry because you got marry to someone else and its not my fault for not being able to come to the…"

"fine I get it, am very tired right now so can you please just lets go" she blurted out. Avan sighed resignedly and stood up

"I will drop you then" he offered which Laura did not resist and they both left together leaving Clara who is still hiding away in her office.

Clara stared at the two of them as they leave with anger and fury in her eyes, she cant believe that he's still not leaving her after she got married to someone else and is even trying to get back with her after making series of promises just a few hours ago.

She picked her phone and pull a call through to him but he wouldn't answer but cut the call which makes her more angry, she smashed her phone against the wall and crumbled to the floor dejected.

….Avan dropped her off at the entrance of the house and left the next minute, Laura proceed to the house, she walked straight to the refrigerator to get some water, she heard a sound from the kitchen and halt her step, dropping the bag in her hand on the dinning table and went inside to check what the noise was about

Chris is not at home so its definitely Mira, She thought she must have got to bed already but it appears not. She saw her on the floor writhing in pain while holding her hand and crying

"what happened?" Laura asked and walk over to her quickly

"I cut my finger, cant you see?" Mira answered rudely but she ignored her and helped her up then lead her to the water-sink and washed the wounded area

"wait here let me get the first aid box" she said and made to leave but Mira stopped her

"How do you know where the first aid box is? Acting like you've lived here before" she grumbled

"should I help you or you want to keep running your mouth?" she asked pissed off

Mira pouted shutting her mouth as Laura walk away to get the box and they both walk back together to the living room and sat down. Laura helped her to apply some cream on the burnt

"are you not going to ask me?" Mira said after she put a plaster on it

"ask what?" she shrugged finishing up and closed the box

"why I was in the kitchen? Why am here?" she queried raising her voice

"why would I want to know that? Its none of my business" she answered calmly

"I know you are bothered that am here preventing your plans, you act like you don't care an try to look cool" she stood up getting annoyed

Laura ignored her and stood up to leave but Mira stand in front of her to prevent her from leaving

"where do you think you are going? Am still talking. Is it because you don't find me worthy as an opponent" she said yelling

"can you move out of my way, I don't want to listen to this today" she tried to push her out of the way but Mira remained adamant

"answer me, you pretend to work in the office late just to avoid me but I wont let you go tonight" Laura saw she looked very serious with her words, she went back to sit

"so what exactly do you want?" she asked grumpily

"First, do you like Chris?" she asked after settling down on the seat opposite her

"excuse me!"

"if you don't like him then its fine, it means you will be divorcing him isn't it?"

"look, whatever you want to know just ask him directly, I don't want to get involved in with your relationship issues" she said unconcerned

"he's never at home, since I start living here I never get to see him and he made him promise not to come to disturb him at the office so I ant go over also" she complained to her

"so what do you want me to do about it?"

"you an talk to him maybe he will listen, ask him to stay at home and spent more time here"

"why would I want to do that?"

"you said you don't like him!" she stressed

"I don't but that doesn't mean I should listen to whatever you are requesting for, I have more important things to do" she said and walk to her room

"I know you are lying, you definitely like him" she yelled after her but Laura closed her door to prevent her from getting to her

Mira continue talking for a few more minutes before giving up and went to her own room beside Laura's room. Laura made sure she heard her close her door before she finally sigh in relieve.

Despite trying so much not to talk to her, she cant believe how unlucky she was to meet her tonight coupled with her seeing Avan also

She wanted to shower before going to bed but then changed her mind and cleaned her face instead then changed to her nightwear
