Chapter 19

Nicholas grew up not having a father and from a year old, his mother has always told about how his father left them for another woman because his mother was poor. They suffered a lot of things due to their poor state and his mother continually mention his dad's wife which he has never seen but he had a different thought than his mother, instead of blaming the woman he felt that his father should be the one at fault for leaving his mother for money but Beatrice wouldn't have him say that so he kept his thought to himself

Then years back, she entered the house from a trip to where he doesn't know and told him to get dressed that they will be going to meet his father and they rushed out of the house, board a plane and arrived at the place after fifteen hours on the plane.

She took his hand and they head straight to a venue she had mentioned to the driver…

He had watched her talk at a very big party and also saw the reaction on everyone's face, he looked at his so called father angrily as it seems that he didn't acknowledge him at all.

His mother threatened them and left to an hotel where he stayed alone while his mother go out and come back by midnight everyday till she told him that they will be moving into his father's house.

He wanted to go against her decision but seeing the happiness on her face and knowing that she did everything just to give him a happy life.

They soon take over the house and with only Laura and her nanny opposing them, it took no time to dominate the family. His mother sent him abroad for his studies and he was living alright but then he find out another truth his mother hid from him.

Everything they've been enjoying does not belong to his father but the wife they so much hated and his mother was the one who deceived Laura's mom.

After finding out everything, he rushed back to the country as an exchange student and confront his mother bit she just acted like it was not a big deal and discard him

"Why did you lie to me then?" He had asked her disappointed but she just give him a lame answer that Laura's mother was just foolish. He tried to get through to his father and he was unavailable then his mother forced him to join the company which he agreed to because he wanted to help Laura with something but was unaware that she actually plant him there to overthrown her

He and Laura never spoke to each other causally and in things that have to do with the company she always make sure they never cross each other but when they do she act like he is invisible. Of course he can't blame her but he actually wants to help without offending his mother so he got the information about TT company and gave it to someone to give Clara then helped Clara with Avan's accident to avoid their marriage after finding out that he's also in a relationship with Clara.

Chris finished cooking dinner around six in the evening and called out to Laura from her room, she replied him with an okay and soon joined him downstairs.

The both of them settle down to eat as Chris served the food, thanks to the fact that Mira traveled for a fashion show in another country and wouldn't be back in one week.

She tried to stay behind and even force Chris to follow her but he managed to persuade her and she left promising to come back sooner, without her presence in the house they both get along well and stayed together most of the day

"did you decide to cook today because you don't like my food?" Laura asked jokingly, she tried cooking the day before and served them raw food to eat. They had to throw everything away and ordered food to eat

"Of course not, just didn't want to stress you. You said you were busy with some projects" he defended and held the water to her which Laura took thankfully.

She has been in the study attending to works from the night before and he woke up to see her working again this morning, she only ordered some junks and won't come out so he wanted to help by making her something good to eat

She took a bite from the food and nod her head satisfyingly then smiled at him mildly.

The finish eating in silence and Laura decide to park the plate despite Chris refusal and took them to the kitchen to wash, she finished in a matter of minutes and came back to see Chris talking to someone on his phone, she signal to him that she will be going back to work and left back to the study

She entered and left the door a little open, Chris allowed her to use his study room since yesterday and she knows he might have some works to attend to so In case he wants to come in she has separated a space for him but he didn't come in since yesterday so she assume he's probably not busy but still left the door opened

She sat down and put a call through to one of the directors and start another round of online meeting with him and two others, today was supposed to be her day off but she still end up working. Since she took over the position of the company's president in the quest to safe her mother's effort for the past years, her schedule has been like this, work, work and work.

She had dreamed to be a small business owner unlike her mother and give the company to whoever she marries but after making her engagement with Avan official, she didn't trust him enough to hand over any of her powers to him

Laura wasn't concentrating on what is being discussed with her and getting fed up with them disagreeing with every of her order, she was about to give in to them and end the call when Chris came in, she paused and turned the face of the laptop away from her and turned her attention to him instead

"How is it going?" He whispered and Laura faked a smile and whispered back

"Almost done" she responded then she and Chris heard the directors talking

"Why isn't she saying anything? Do you keep we should push on?" One of them said sounding uncertain

"She will hear you and also, she has no choice, she can't do without our service in the company" the other person whispered but his words was heard by Laura and Chris who already walked in closer to her. Laura smiled at him and turned to her laptop to give them a reply but Chris stopped her. He took the laptop and sat down on the seat next to her

"Why did you think the company can't do well without your services?" He throw the question at them with a frown on his face, the three of them looked at each other's face before turning back to the computer

"Who are you to intervene in our company's affairs?" One of them answered

"Your boss's husband, do you think you can disobey her and make your own rules in the company? Do you want to get fired so you can come to your senses?" He responded coldly and with a bossy tone which made the directors quiver and almost lost their confidence, after another minute one of them summon the courage to speak up

"We are worry but we meant well for the company and she is not.." he was trying to say something but Chris stopped him and turned to Laura

"Will you like to take a rest and let me handle this for you?" He asked and Laura nodded looking stupefied and impressed. She pout her mouth as she nod her head happily. She doesn't really care about the work but having someone who is willing to help take care of things is really relieving and great

Chris pat her hair lightly after hearing her reply and she stood up to leave, he pull her back gently and plant a kiss on her cheek which made Laura blush. She give me a look to ask why he did that and he point to the screen to tell her they were watching, she smiled foolishly and left the room and Chris turned back to the face the directors and start the discussion all from the beginning listening to Laura idea and theirs…

… Laura waited after entering her room for a long time to see when Chris will be done but he wasn't so she decided to use her tablet to get some other things done but end up sleeping off.

Chris finished and also attend to somethings he will be working on at the office the next day before leaving the study room and went to check on Laura, he entered slowly not to disturb her sleep and took the tablet away them put it off for her after saving why she was doing. He tuck her in properly then gently leave the room and head to his own room to sleep
