Chapter 17 - Zombies BBQ

When the system told him that his dream was probably his lost memory, Wu Ye became depressed and wasn't in the mood to use the nuclei to strengthen his genes anymore.

He really couldn't figure out the reason why big brother did that.

If he was an ambitious man, his big brother's action could've still made sense, but how could big brother not be clear about what I had, even though I myself was unclear about it? He was admitted to an ordinary university and majored in bad course. He had never considered going abroad for gold plating, nor was he interested in the old man's company group at all.

His life goal was to live a comfortable life depending on the company's dry dividend for the rest of his life. He never had the slightest idea of competing for the inheritance with his eldest brother.

T/N: Gold-plating: to make something ordinary seem special.

Besides, his mother also knew more about the virtue of laziness than the old man. She had never expected to do anything important. She just wanted to live peacefully and enjoy the good fortune that Wu Li couldn't enjoy for him. And from what he can remember, his mother has treated all of them, a stepson or her real son, equally. Even Wu Li with his bad health was treated the same. Therefore, he dared to clap his chest in assurance to anyone that his mother had done nothing even remotely similar to her stepson like other stepmothers. But then why, just why did his eldest brother wants to get rid of him?

And for other people, Wu Ye is regarded as a white silk pants in the circle. He would use money to return money. In essence, he had always been a good law-abiding citizen who had never had any deep hatred with anyone. Apart of his eldest brother who phoned him in the middle of the night, no one else knew that he was not at his bed, and planned to go out. However, he really had no idea who would want his little life.

He had stayed here for more than twenty days now. What was the situation at home now?

When Ji Yun looked at Wu Ye today, he felt that something wasn't right. Wu Ye's whole person seemed to be surrounded by gloomy aura, his usually sparkling eyes hid repressed anger that looked ready to erupt at any moment, being able to horrify anyone who saw it. Thus, Ji Yun found a moment to ask Qin Wuhua in a low voice, "What happened to boss? Did anyone piss him off?"

Qin Wuhua shook his head and said, "Don't worry about him, move the stuff first." Saying that, Qin Wuhua's eyes fell on Wu Ye's body not far away, eyes dark and thoughtful.

"Ok." When Ji Yun heard him say that, his intuition told him that it probably wasn't a big deal. Hence he focused on the new house he'd just rented. When he thought about the new house his heart fluttered in excitement.

The newly rented house is located near the trading area of Lan Cheng base. The next street was the location of the Zombies Hunter's Union, which made it really convenient for them. The house was located on the third floor, it had three rooms and a hall with air conditioning. Qin Wuhua also specially set aside a room as a studio for this teacher-student duo to work at. The house itself was not that big in terms of size, it was even called Qing Shui, but the wall itself was stained with ash colour as well. The good thing was that both water and electricity was connected to the house already. There should be a full range of furniture and electrical appliances as well. It was really much better than their slum house that they used to live in beforehand.

As he tidied up his and his master's 'treasures', Ji Yun was deeply moved by the rare good luck he had. He now followed a good boss who gave them both rooms without charging them any rent, even though he himself had to pay full 30 crystal nuclei a day for it.

Since Wu Ye and Qin Wuhua didn't have much stuff, they've finished packing up in less than half an hour, in contrast to Professor Li and Ji Yun, who just had too much stuff. Wu Ye really couldn't fathom how they could pack up a truckload of things from their dilapidated house of no more than 10 square meters.

It took them until two o'clock in the afternoon to get everything ready. Professor Li was so tired after all that due to his old age, that the task of cooking their meals naturally fell to Ji Yun. While Ji Yun's craftsmanship was not one or two grades lower than Professor's, Wu Ye was still in a bad mood. Even during the meal, lightning flashes and thunder rolls expression was etched on his face.

After the dinner, Ji Yun and Professor Li dived into the studio, and continued to play around with their zombie detector. Ji Yun had kept working on it during this period of time, collecting a lot of useful data, which would very likely help him succeed or even break through over this piece of technology.

Wu Ye returned to the room, and then exchanged all the points he had into salt in one breath, fully exchanging for 36 jin.

If he sold all this salt on the black market, he would get a net profit of more than 2000 crystal nuclei. With the remaining crystal nuclei on him, he would have around 3000 crystals. Wuhua said that the grenades sold in the black market cost around 100 crystals. With this kind of money he could afford 30 grenades! With the considerable density of zombies at the zombie fences, a hand grenade would be able to kill a lot of them. Right? If you combined the Molotov cocktails with the hot weather for these past two days, The zombies would get roasted and dehydrated even if they didn't have any oils to use. Then again, if you used several of those incendiary devices coupled with using two barrels of gasoline, it'd be like a zombie BBQ or something. Don't repeat this to others.

According to this plan, wouldn't he make 1000 points in a minute!

This second young master is amazed by his own resourcefulness, gave 32 likes!

When Qin Wuhua knocked at the door and came in, he saw Wu Ye was warming up, fiddling with the salt bag in his hand with a smile on his face. Qin Wuhua just felt some unknown feeling within his heart, and then his tightened lips began to relax slowly.

"Wuhua, you came just in time!" Wu Ye crackled a lot, telling him all of his plans in one breath.

Although Qin Wuhua has never asked any questions about Wu Ye's secrets, they ate and lived together. Coupled with the fact that he had occasionally overheard Wu Ye talking to the system when he was in the semi-comatose state, he was almost certain that the salt appeared out of thin air. It must've been exchanged by Wu Ye with some mysterious existence in some way.

All of that, Wu Ye's salt, precious vaccine, zombie repellent and so on must've been exchanged by paying some kind of price. What would the price be, he wondered?

Wu Ye clearly knew that there were way too many zombies behind the zombie walls, and even if he killed those zombies, he still wouldn't have had the time to collect the crystal nuclei. However he still insisted on doing those kind of work at all costs. Why?

Qin Wuhua had easily figured out the crux of the problem, but he didn't ask any questions. The incendiary bombs are more expensive, and the price of self-made grenades is similar to normal hand grenades, only that the effect is limited, unlike the effect of military products. However, while the military product's effects were great, they were very expensive and they are also strictly regulated. On that day only 3 grenades were seen on the black market, and the stall owner wanted 1000 crystals for them."

Due to the virus and hunger the zombies had lost all wisdom and reason, but the virus itself was something that lay in between the ream of living and non-living organisms. The academic community was still unsure, hence it hadn't reached a final verdict over it yet. However, it's undeniable that some viruses possessed a certain survival instinct. This survival instinct was particularly evident in the D virus, which is beyond the current knowledge of the scientific community.

That was the reason why the zombies wouldn't just stand foolishly in the fire for you to burn them. Even if they didn't feel any pain, they could still instinctually distinguish the threat to their being, and tried to eliminate this threat to them.

The self-made incendiary bombs could burn and explode, and it played a lethal role for human beings, but it just wasn't enough in the face of zombies.

Military incendiary bombs were different though, when it's napalm fuel touched the body, it couldn't be extinguished with water or fire. Zombies had the instinct propelling them to seek advantages and avoid harm. However, as a being with no wisdom, if they were touched by the incendiary bombs made by military, they would be done for.

Molotov cocktails were powerful defensive weapons for many settlements, and had successfully helped many bases tide through the zombie sieges. Of course the base defense usually used the napalm aerial bombs, weighing hundreds of thousands of jin, thus it had to be airdropped by an aircraft when it was being used. That kind of thing was very expensive, as such even the medium-sized bases while facing a crisis would be very reluctant to use them easily.

The black market sold the miniature versions, those were weighing only about 10 jin, and were loaded with thickened gasoline with thermite. The effect is similar to the napalm aerial bombs, but it's power and range were much smaller, so the cost-effectiveness of using it alone was not as good as that of self-made incendiary bombs.

Wu Ye is a military enthusiast, and he knew the difference without a need for Qin Wuhua's explanation. "If we can attract the zombies to one place first with things, and then use the hand mines to destroy some of the zombies movement…and if we use gasoline and molotov cocktails together, it should be able to kill a lot of zombies, right?"

There was a trace of appreciation in Qin Wuhua's eyes as he listened to Wu Ye's words. Indeed, Wu Ye's plan could maximize the elimination rate of the zombies. "However, the zombies gathered at the zombies wall is too tightly packed together, and there are many second and quasi-third level zombies as well. Their reaction speed is very fast. We probably won't have that much time to set that up."

"Anyway, we don't need to pick up those nuclei. If we make a good plan, we will certainly be able to do it. Even if we can't do it alone, we can hire Yang Qi and Yang Li Na to help us."

"Yes."

After this discussion, Qin Wuhua went to the black market in the afternoon, and sold all of the salt that was given to him by Wu Ye. He then bought 1 molotov cocktails, 10 hand grenades and then used all the remaining crystal nuclei on gasoline.

When he returned to the Lan Cheng base, it was getting dark outside. After dinner, Wu Ye contacted Yang Qi's communication number using his device, and asked him and Yang Li Na to come to their house.

Yang Qi and Yang Li Na who had just returned from hunting outside, took a quick shower, changed into some clean clothes and them came over while eating some deep fried dough cake.

They lived nearby, only one block away from Wu Ye and Qin Wuhua's place, as such they didn't manage to finish their deep fried dough cake by the time they had reached their place.

Wu Ye had already discussed his plan with Qin Wuhua and Ji Yun, hence he only needed to roughly explain his plan to Yang Qi and Yang Li Na.

Yang Qi didn't understand why Wu Ye was doing this kind of thing, but he believed that he had a reason for doing so, but he still asked with uncertainty. "So, Li Na and I are responsible for using machine guns and an ability to expel the zombies? Is it that simple?"

"Yes, it's as simple as this. When the mission is over, I'll give you 300 crystals per person. That should be a good enough offer, right?"

300 crystal nuclei to recruit a second-level evolved person to do things for you was a very fair price. However, 300 crystal nuclei would be considered a very generous pay when it came to an assignment as simple and easy as the stuff Wu Ye was asking them to do.

Yang's pair of brother and sister looked at each other and nodded slightly. Yang Li Na smiled at Wu Ye and said, "We have accepted this task! But the person who carries the machine gun has to be changed."

Yang Qi laughed and said, "Yes, Li Na's ability is metal. As such, she can shoot more accurately than I do."

After that, everyone came together to readjust the battle plan. Yang Qi and Yang Li Na, this pair of brother and sister, belonged to the early awakening evolved people. They had been in Lan Cheng base for more than half a year, and had been working outside almost every day. They had visited many dangerous places, and knew the situation outside Lan Cheng base better than Ji Yun did.

Combined with the information they provided, Qin Wuhua decided that the location of tomorrow's operation should be in a place where the zombies were the most tightly packed, but with an open terrain.

That night, Ji Yun went out to rent a modified military truck. Professor Li, in the meantime, assembled two spray pumps with a pile of scrap copper and iron, and offered him a small solar generator which he regarded as a treasure. These two things guaranteed the zombies would receive the greatest degree of 'love irrigation'.

Early the next morning, after breakfast, Ji Yun drove the truck to the edge of the safe zone as they've planned. There were many hunters in the safe zone, and it looked like the amount of zombies was not much there. However, as soon as Ji Yun drove past the safe zone, the amount of the zombies suddenly doubled. Looking at the distant dark block from inside the car, there were full of zombies ahead. The density of the zombies were comparable to the amount of vehicles during rush hours. The zombies wall completely blocked the road ahead.

Ji Yun swallowed his saliva with difficulties. He grabbed the steering wheel with both hands and stepped on the accelerator with one foot.

"Move!"

With Qin Wuhua's command, he and Yang Li Na's heavy machine gun fired at the same time, spewing out a long tongue of fire. The terrible tide of zombies opened its way like sea of moses parting at the sound of fierce gunfire.

Yang Qi maximized his ability to its greatest extent, and turned the smooth road into a big pit, while small pit turned into smooth road.

Meanwhile, Ji Yun was silently counting in his heart, and when the count turned into '1', he quickly turned the steering wheel, and direct the truck directly to the front, put it in reverse, and quickly went back into the zombies pile.

At the same time, Wu Ye pressed the switch on the oil pump and sprayed gasoline at the zombies like a torrential rain.

Ji Yun counted to 10, and then quickly shifted the gear forward, accelerated, and made a mad dash forward.

Qin Wuhua used both machine guns and his ability to open the way for Ji Yun; Yang Li Na gave up her machine gun to prevent the truck from catching fire, and together with Yang Qi, she used her ability to drive away the zombies trying to climb onto the truck. When the gasoline was exhausted, Wu Ye quickly pulled down the safety ring on the hand grenade and threw it with all his strength…

With a flash of light, the grenade flew out to the zombies wall, and the sound it created reminded one of the explosions, toppling a few of the zombies over.

Wu Ye quickly adjusted his strength and threw out a second grenade, right in the middle of the red star. With a rumble, a fire burst into the sky. Wu Ye took that opportunity to throw a large incendiary bomb, which hit the center of the 'gasoline zombies' accurately. After the explosion, countless zombies turned into fireballs directly, and the fire spread rapidly amongst the zombies. When Ji Yun successfully withdrew from the zombies enclosure, Wu Ye threw out his last hand grenade.

He couldn't wait to call out for the system control panel, and saw that the points was climbing up. After two hours, the number finally stopped at 1580.

At last, the needed points to return home were finally accumulated!
