That evening

We came back in the evening after finishing off the site visit. I dropped Yìchén and Lu at their homes and came back to the beach mansion.

"I am so glad you came back." I hear my mother's cheerful voice from the living room.

"At first we thought of coming here for vacations but the work got me tight up and their schooling became a priority." an unfamiliar voice answered.

"I think Lan has come back, Son"

"Dad." I bowed at the guests. They were a family of four.

"Meet the Zhou's family our neighbors a long time ago." said my Dad. "I don't think you will remember Lan. These three used to play together those days."

"HI, Uncle and Aunt." I looked at the handsome guy about my age, who had a tall thin figure, with a look of a model and a gentleman feel. In his arms were a girl who must be a few years younger, she looked fragile and scared, he was soothing her, by patting on her head.

"Nice to meet you Lan after a long time. You have grown up to be a handsome young man," said Mr.s Zhou. "This is my son and daughter, Genghis and Nuo."

I looked at them and nodded my head. Genghis returned my greeting.

"Mom, I'll take Nuo to the beach, she seems a bit..." suddenly said Genghis.

"Ok dear, be careful though." said his Mom as our butler showed them the way to the beach. Yes, this is the girl I saw that night.

"I am sorry about it, I hope we were not being rude," said Uncle Zhoe.

I was interested in knowing what really happened, so I stuck around for a while.

"You must have gone through a lot, dear," said my Mom, going near Aunt Zhou.

"She used to be a very talented kid back then. She loved music, writing, and arts. But the accident just broke her apart." said Aunt Zhou. Uncle added into the facts,

"Genghis was almost engaged when this happened but he called it off. And he had been blaming himself every day saying if he had gone to pick her this wouldn't have happened. Now his full attention is to Nuo."

"I am glad you came back, we can help each other as those days. Always remember we are here to help you and special help little Nuo, she's also my daughter" said my Dad.

"Lan can you get this plate of cookies and the drinks to them," asked Mom.

I took a plate of food and some refreshments to the beach. I saw Nuo being curled up hugging her knees on the bench, while Genghis was walking about near her.

"Hi, Genghis" He looked up at me.

"Hi" he said with a slight smile.

I gave him the food that he took to his sister. He fed her a piece of cookie.

"Nuo, do you like to say hi to brother Lan," he said to her pointing at me. She looked at him and blinked but held his arm tight. I went near them and kneeled.

"Hi, Nuo, welcome back," I said to her softly.

She didn't say anything but looked at me. After she had her drink Genghis came for a little stroll with me. And I asked our maid to be with her.

"My parents have always talked about you and your family."

"They must be happy to meet again," I said to Genghis.

"We planned to come for a vacation, but her accident caused us to change our plans. To come and stay here permanently."

"That's good. I hear from Yìchén that you have an interior design firm"

"You know Yìchén?" he asked.

"He is my brother from another mother."

"He is a friendly chap." He smiled.

We talked for a while and we realized that we are going to be good friends soon. But I realized his whole attention was toward Nuo.

"Are you ok Genghis"

"Yeah... I wish she can turn back to be the little sister I know.."

So that's the pain in his eyes. My mom called us for dinner. My mother has made a special light meal for Nuo. I thought of seating Nuo near her mother but Genghis sat near her.

"Genghis has been taken care of since the day of the accident," said Uncle Zhou.

While others were chatting and having their food, Genghis was carefully feeding his little sister. I don't know how to express what I felt. I saw my mom had a tear in her eye while looking at them. We all went to the outdoor patio to have chit chat while having some coffee and talking about stuff from here and there.

"Genghis, has Nuo fallen asleep?" suddenly asked my dad, looking at Nuo fast asleep on his lap. He smiled at her and tucked a piece of hair away from her face.

"Yes, uncle."

"You must be really busy with taking care of her and running the company"

"Sometimes it's tough but I can manage. Little Nuo is only comfortable around me most of the time." He explained.

"In the future, if you need any help let me know I will help you out" I volunteered sincerely.

"Thank you. Having a neighbor who knows us is really a blessing." He replied while holding her in his arms. "Mom I'll take her home, you can stay and chat with them for a while"

"Thank you, son. Why don't you take Lan with you? So you both can catch up too." said my mom.

Genghis settled her on her bed and came to the living room. Their home was decorated to have a modern home on the inside.

"Love the interior," I said while looking around.

"I wanted this to be modern and have a more of a familiar feel for her," said Genghis bringing out some drinks. "I am sorry I don't drink, so I hope this is ok." Handing me a cool drink.

"Genghis, I think I saw your sister a few days ago near the bench a few days ago."

"My mom got so worried that day, she had gone out without anyone with her before. And I hurried back to look for her. It took about an hour for me to look for her, till my mom said about that bench."

"I am glad she was not harmed by anyone. If you like I will arrange someone to accompany her when she stays there"

"Please don't, she will get uncomfortable and corner herself. If you see her just call me. I will watch her secretly."
