Being recommended into UA was going to be hell to pay. I knew that when I accepted Hawks's recommendation. But in the moment of being recognized by a hero that I looked up to was a snap decision that I didn't think about.
~Before the Entrance Exams~
"Why do you need to go through the exams when you could just slide right in? Why has no other hero seen your power?" Hawks asked me after the incident.
I had gone shopping for the ingredients that my neighbor had asked me to pick up and came across a small accident that turned into a full out villain attempt.
A old lady had been trying to get some money from a ATM, but was quickly stolen for her riches and held hostage. So I basically did the only humane thing to do.
I used my quirk and took the villains down. I was in trouble and got yelled at, but it was all quickly intervened by the number three hero Hawks. He got the cops off my tail and escorted me home.
"I don't want to be a hero. A lady was in trouble and I helped. That was all. This is the exact reason why I don't want to be a hero. Why would I want to be scooped out by heroes who are hoping to make me their sidekick because of my power? I want to be someone who matters personally, not symbolically." I said.
"Okay, so why not make that clear as a hero. You can't make people see that when your a nobody." Hawks said.
He had stopped on my porch and sat on the bench swing.
"Okay, first off, your gonna have to leave because I can't have the number three hero sitting on my porch so casually. Second, I don't want to go to a school. They get way too touchy about things when it comes to being a hero."
Hawks kicked his feet on the bench and laid back, clearly having to intention of moving.
"But your going anyway, because I'm telling you to. Where are your parents? I think they'd be excited to hear that the number three hero is recommending you." He said peering into the window behind him.
I frowned.
"I live alone. Parents passed away from cancer years ago, been on my own ever since." I said opening the door and stepping inside. "If your gonna stay, come in so nobody can see you." I said hanging my bag up and going into the kitchen.
I heard the front door shut and footsteps indication he came inside.
"I'm sorry." He said leaning against the counter.
"Don't worry about it. They lasted longer than they were supposed to so I consider myself lucky." I put away my groceries and wrapped the rest up. "You wanna come with me to drop these off?"
"Why not?" He smirked.
We walked out and down a few blocks to the neighbor that had asked for the groceries. I waved to him and Hawks stopped me as we passed a fountain.
"Your going to UA and your gonna be a hero. I'll make you my sidekick or you can be your own, I don't care. But I can't watch this potential go to waste." He grabbed my waist and lifted me into the sky.
"WHAT THE FUCK HAWKS?!?!" I shouted as he shot into the air.
"I'm not putting you down until you agree to go to UA!" He called over the wind.
He dangled me like a toy over the city, ignoring my cussing and threats. It went on for about half an hour before I got queasy.
"FUCKING FINE! I'LL GO TO UA, JUST PUT ME THE FUCK DOWN!!" I shouted.
I heard his chuckles as he descended to a stop in front of my house. He gently set me down and landed.
I fell to my knees, breathing hard.
"I'll ask next time." He smiled.
"Next time? If that happens again, I will clip your wings." I threatened.
He crouched down in front of me.
"They'll grow back." He helped me up and sighed. "I have to go my little sparrow. But I will be informing UA of my recommendation. If you don't show up, I will drop you from the sky." He took off into the sunset sky. "See you in a bit sparrow!!"
~First Day of UA~
I thought of the deal I made with Hawks. That man.
"Argh!" I growled to myself, walking to UA in my uniform.
I arrived, muttering to myself about ways to flay a hawk when I noticed the time.
I was so screwed, I was gonna be late. I sprinted through the school, leaping up four steps at a time and down the hall to class 1-A.
I arrived at the same time as the yellow lump in front of the door. It wasn't moving it was just laying there, a green-haired boy chatting with a brown hair girl and a blue haired boy, were blocking the doorway.
"If your here to socialize, then get out." He pulled out a juice pouch and drank it in about three seconds flat. "This is the hero course."
I came up behind him as he stood up and slithered out of his sleeping bag.
"It took eight seconds for you to quiet down. Time is a precious source, you lot aren't very rational, are you?"
He walked into the class and dug into his sleeping bag. I ignored him and slipped past him and into the class. He caught me in the corner of his eyes and looked at me appraisingly.
"Oh? I didn't even hear you, very sneaky. I let your tardiness slide just this once."
I looked at him with no emotion and leaned against the wall. He pulled out a outfit from his sleeping bag.
"Here, put these on, quickly."
We did so and met him outside by a field.
A small conversation went on as he spoke to the class but I ignored it all. Not taking in anything. I trained hard for these months of the entrance exam, then I met Hawks and my guaranteed acceptance into UA was true. I stood in the back of the class waiting for this all to be over and sighed.
Then we went through a series of test that I was perfect in. Being the naturally strong person I am, gave me perfect scores. I beat a boy with big lips and black hair in the race and got second in the long distance run. I passed all assessments with either the top or second score.
Then it came to the softball throw.
"(Y/N) (L/N)." Aizawa-sensei called.
I stood up to the circle that Bakugou had previously performed a throw of 705.2 meters.
"I don't think she's said anything during the class. She hasn't spoken to anyone." I heard a voice say.
"She's unbelievably pretty." Another said.
"She's seems quite." Someone whispered.
Someone cleared their throat and they all paid attention as I readied myself. I set my right foot back and planted my left in front of me. I pulled my arm back and whipped of forward.
I used my quirk. My control over the air assisted in my throw, sending it far out into the sky.
The blast sent clouds of dust and and harsh winds over everyone as the boom burst through our ears. I tightened myself and looked into the sky as I kept my control over the air for as long as I could until it went out of my range.
As soon as my control dropped, my arm started to twitch, jerking and twitching. I clamped my left arm on it and sucked in a deep breath, holding the air.
"Calm, easy does it." I whispered to myself.
My arm relaxed and I let my breath out.
"956.1 meters!" The machine called out.
"WHAT?!?!" The class shrieked.
I quickly and quietly skittered back to my little spot in the back, ignoring the gasp and cheers about my throw. I didn't really want to deal with the others so I just resided next to Aizawa-sensei.
"Not a social person? I noticed you haven't said a word to anyone." He said quietly. I noticed he didn't want to draw attention to us while the classes had their outburst at the next throw.
"It's not that. I like people, but I'm here against my will." I muttered grumpily to him.
"What?" He asked in a confused voice. "You were recommended. Anyone would jump at the chance of going to UA. What did your parents think?"
I made eye contact with him for a second before I looked away.
"WHO THE HELL IS (Y/N) (L/N)!? A loud voice asked.
I turned to see Bakugou shoving through the crowd of students looking for me. I clung to Aizawa-sensei's sleeve and shuffled behind him. He chuckled and shielded me from view when he came by.
After a minute he shoved through the other students and went on his way. Aizawa turned his attention back to me, expecting an answer to his question.
"My parents died a few years ago, Hawks asked me a similar question actually. He would have pestered me about it if I refused to show up and what would the media think if the number three hero was constantly hovering around a girl who lived alone?" I looked at my teacher.
"It would ruin both of our images and I don't want to live a life controlled by rumors. This was my only option. Even though that punk's gonna come see me today since he knows this was the first day." I grumbled.
Aizawa-sensei let out a soft chuckle and ruffled my hair.
"You'll be fine. I just wonder what the future holds for someone as hero given as you are." He walked over to the green haired boy and handed him a pass.
I took that as his dismissal and left. Everybody else in the class took their leave and began walking home. I was leaving the field last when I heard a quiet conversation around the corner. I peeked over a bit to see Aizawa-sensei and . . . . All Might. The number one hero. My jaw dropped. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a fan. All Might meant so much to me when I was little. He played an even greater part after my parents died. I saw him as a personal symbol of hope. One that could guide me for the rest of my life.
I heard their discussion about a student, and decided to back off, seeing as though it was none of my business. I already had to deal with another top hero at home.
~Time Skip~
I walked into the living room and kicked off my shoes. I stepped into the kitchen and brought out a soda, I was about to close the fridge when I felt something tickled my neck. I turned around but no one was there.
I smiled and reached back into the fridge and grabbed another soda. I set it one the counter and walked up stairs.
"How was your day?" I asked opening the soda.
I heard the clicking sound of the other soda being opened and the red feather appeared in front of me, blocking me from the staircase.
"Not so fast sparrow. Tell me everything."
I turned around to see hawks in his hero costume , drinking the soda.
"It was just a test day. We missed orientation because out teacher didn't care. He wanted to see our abilities and he saw them. I got first in class and spoke to no one but the teacher. I had a lovely day until you showed up." I snarked.
"Is that what you say to the man of your dreams? I know your my biggest fan, I've seen your hero collection." He teased.
I had Mirko, All Might, Edgeshot, and yes, Hawks, merchandise. I had a room just for hero objects that I kept in a valuable area.
"Oh, don't flatter yourself. You know that there is more Mirko in there than there will ever be Hawks. You were a cool character until I found out what a puchy bastard you could be." I snorted rushing upstairs.
"Excuse me sparrow?!" I heard his enraged voice.
I laughed as I shut my door and hid under my bed. His footsteps stomped throughout the house before settling on my room. The door burst open and feathers shot in. They pulled my from under the bed and dangeled me from my ankle.
"Apologize." He said looking me in the eye.
"Never." I said.
He dropped me on my bed and sighed as he rubbed his neck.
"Tomorrow, you'll definitely have a busier day at UA, so get some rest, I got patrols. BEHAVE. I mean it. I already picked up groceries for you so don't go out. I'll see you tomorrow sparrow. Take a picture of your hero costume for me, kay?"
He waved and jumped out my window, his feather following him.
I turned to see one had remained on my desk.
I smiled and set it on my nightstand.
"Thanks Hawks." I whispered to the empty space.
